I Love This Movie Pure Gold One Of My Favorite Movie Forever
One of the greatest scenes in the film, and exquisitely like what Margaret Mitchell describes - Melanie suddenly darting like a little bird, and Olivia de Havilland captures this masterfully.
Leslie Howard was a revelation in this movie. Everyone who's only seen him as Ashley in Gone With The Wind, should see this. As well as eveyone else!
If only it was true.

I love how Ashley kept his promise to Melanie about bringing home his uniform without any holes in it. You can see he or someone else patched a hole with blue fabric on his right elbow 😭

I'm so glad Mammie stops Scarlett from running to Ashley! After all, Ashley is MELANIE's husband, NOT Scarlett's, as Mammie said. The spoiled little brat should let them have their own private reunion and be together and not ruin it for them.

Scarlett was an idiot through and through, and so was Ashley. If he’d been brave enough to say one word to Scarlett to dash her hopes much misery could’ve been averted. But in his own words he was a coward. He carried the false flame of passion for Scarlett as much as she did him. Both fools.

As an Army wife, I feel Melanie’s joy when Ashley comes home. My husband was deployed for a year and when he returned home safe, it was the most joyful moment in my life.
Gone with the wind is the greatest movie of all time. They don't make them like this anymore 😔
Vivien Leigh was overrated as an Actress. Her performance in "Streetcar" next to Brando is near embarrassing. de Havilland was 10 times the Actress that Leigh was. No justice in the world.
Wrong on all counts.
You have to have context. Leigh was one of countless actors who lived in the early years of the film industry. In that era, most film actors - like Leigh - were stage veterans and thus had very theatrical and broad acting styles. It wasn’t until Brando’s generation that it was realized that theatrical acting did not translate the same way onto film, as closeups made it far easier to see an actor’s expressions and feelings than on the stage where it must be broadly shown to get it across to the audience. Brando and many of his peers were the ones who initiated the new and more modern style of film acting which is grounded in a realism and subtlety that the stage does not permit.
I think what is interesting is that he leaves him to the judgment of the people's tribunal, as to his failure. The people's tribunal is rather aggressive with the guiloteen.
Damn the actor they hired to play Ashley makes it difficult to believe in Scarlett's crush on him. He's just so average, at best.
Leslie Howard and Clark Gable were the two most popular and beloved actors of women at the time. They were America’s heartthrobs. And, as a woman, I agree. Leslie Howard had a quality of simpatico toward women which is very apparent in his body language.
Leslie Howard was actually quite handsome, in a quiter way than Clark Gable. But he wasn't quite right for the part and he knew it.

Ashley is ambiguous in the book. For example, he tells her that he can't stand the idea of her sleeping with Rett and after that Scarlett announces to Rett that she wants to have a separate room... He deliberately destroyed her marriage!

Mammie is so awesome.! "Miss Scarlett, don't spoil it!" It was Ashley and Melanie's moment, Scarlett needed to stay on the porch and let them have it.
What Scarlett felt for Ashley was infatuation, not love. She realizes what true love is at the end when Rhett has had enough of her and leaves.

Eddie Cantor was funny and one of the most dynamic performers in show business.
"Don't spoil it. He's her husband, ain't he?" Mammy knows. And Scarlett knows she knows.
Mammy is the only one with smarts!
