The Catholic Art Institute is an arts organization working to restore a culture of truth, beauty, and goodness. We empower artists to use their gifts to glorify God and captivate souls through beauty.
We are a lay apostolate seeking the 'restoration of the Sacred' in the Catholic visual arts. We recognize that Beauty flowing from the Church’s Liturgy helps many to encounter the person of Jesus Christ. Our organization was founded through St. John Cantius Church in Chicago.

I just came across this talk ! ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING ! I am going to forward this CZcams to many friends ! EXCELLENT ! Thank you ! Blessings to all of you from Michigan!
Thank you Kathleen & Juliette for an enjoyable informative talk. I own four of Juliette's books which I treasure. This channel just popped up; I have subscribed and look forward to future art talks. Marie (NZ).
R. H. Ives Gammell, Richard Lack's teacher, was the founder of the contemporary atelier movement.
This was awesome for me. I am just on the first steps on transitioning my art into Catholic themes. Wish you published more videos
A very interesting interview. I'm happy to know there are many younger artists today returning to the classical art styles. It's refreshing to see.
Very inspiring, thank you!
Let's just say that God inspires divine art--art that one feels --that quickens one into a higher Christ intonation or frequency! Culture that is Culture is a mirroring reflection of God. It is never this type of ART that fails; it is man--the individual who fails in his use of such art because he has not been regenerated, made upright in Christ's Image as Bernard of Clairvaux had done and enabled him to show forth as one of God's vessels'. Sir James has the gift but he is not yet one of God's upright mountains so he knows not how to say it: God's CULTURE is enabled through His vessels wrought in His Image and please let us not look at what the unillumined and unenlightened and those not evolved into regeneration do with God's works. Most men mess everything up.
Heavenly! Thank you!
Magnificent vocals!
I have listened to this song for over 20 years and this is the most beautiful performance I have come across. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you very much! We hope you'll share.
impossible not to contemplate God with this call! Thanks from Brazil
Beautiful. Explanations Thank God for an Artist like him. Glory to God.
Today I played this for our homeschool music history class -- a group of kids aged 8 to 14 -- as we were exploring sacred music by living composers. They were fascinated, and I am too, more each time I hear it. It's an extraordinarily beautiful piece. A wonderful performance as well.
I love this

Stoddart is a shining gem.
In the words of Hopkins, "Give beauty back, beauty, beauty, beauty, back to God, beauty’s self and beauty’s giver."
A tour de force!
My heart weeps tears of Joy!
Thank you CAI, for bringing the thoughts of these prominent artists to us.
Profound, insightful, and inspiring address. Thank you, Catholic Art Institute.
The opening music itself draws one in.
In all fairness. Our guest artist uses UM and AH-- in 30 seconds: he speaks vocal pauses 13 times. For what it's worth , your professional lectures will be improved and your listeners will thank you. Actually. THE VOCAL PAUSES are so replete: I can only attend to you both for less than five minutes. I must wish you both all the best. I can't listen to anything further. I'll read the transcript but the verbal pauses are ruinous to your audio efforts. God bless U and your future striving. Respectfully submitted Gregg Oreo long Beach Ca Etats Unis
Dear President. In one minute/ there are eight vocal pauses of UM and AH. Of course, you do not HEAR IT as we professional speakers HEAR you. Please consider joining TOAST MASTERS Speech Society. Because. Dear Madame President-- your public narration will be improved 1000 percent. And. Thank you for a wonderful presentation. Gregg Oreo long Beach Ca Etats Unis
Subbed 👍Pageau is a great artist and thinker. As a liturgical musician, I need this balance. Looking forward to more inspiration in that respect.
In Japanese, irony and cynicism are the same word 皮肉 (hiniku)
I wish I could have heard them. Is there any video of the concert online?
There are links in the description. Click on where it says SHOW MORE and it will open to show you the links.
Another inspiring video, we have some great art/architecture in the old churches in Iowa; we've got a nice Lost Sheep Painting with Mary praying in the background I've never seen before plus a collection of paintings by Lottie Brielmaier.
Thank you for making this available for those who don’t live in the Chicago area Hilary Mcallen TX
What kind of life action role-play is this?
In the center of the video image you can see how the two views blend into a very MC Escher type of image. It’s as if they are overlapping into each other and they’re in the same space but they are not.
The ikon revival almost totally ignores the prayer aspect of ikon painting or at least it’s pivotal role. Without that it just becomes another self help therapy.
Thank you so much! This is exactly what i needed to see at this point in my life
I was watching a Jordan Peterson interview with John McWhorter, Peterson spoke highly of Jonathan Pageau so I typed "Jonathan Pageau" into a search engine and here I am.
Hey Jerry, If you really want to find out more about him go to his channel. He has a very interesting opinion on many topics, not only religious ones
Wonderful discussion. Thank you for encouraging and connecting Christian artists making high quality art and thank you to Fr. Silouan for his unique and detailed icons that glorify God. God bless you!
Beauty is a value.
Great story telling! Hello O'Hearn Family!!
I cried like a big baby. Beautifully done.
Just terrific!
I really appreciate Kathleen Carr and Jonathan Pageau's commitment to God and to art. Thank you.
Thank you very much for your kind comment! May God bless you and your work!
Transcendence in rituals and good art, but not in modern art. I think that’s my take away. Thanks for sharing!
Thank You . I am a retired art teacher , and a Christian, now a full time artist who lives on a hundred acre farm in Ontario Canada . So l am out painting in the Forest and fields everyday . I very much agree with the artist and find her a fascinating and warming speaker to the soul of a artist . Thanks again and bless you 👩🎨🙏
As a curious agnostic I find Jonathan so interesting. Guy is so smart and talented (legitimately, not the way a grandma lies about her grandkid) but also seems so content. I don't think I have ever seen a genius artist be so normal and happy.
Wonderful talk by a wonderful man.
Thank you for a very illuminating lecture. But I was shocked when I heard „Heinrich" Górecki. What an affront! The composer was Polish and he would have been dismayed and disgusted if his first name had been rendered in German. His name was Henryk Górecki. And to think that a person of your stature, with Polish roots, is not aware of the Polish culture. A culture is that is so much better, richer and superior to the pathetic American culture. I’m amazed. Dr. Kwaśniewski, you clearly have no idea what you are losing by not speaking Polish and living in Poland.
