At least part of their secret was using Fender Stratocaster guitars with aftermarket Deep 6 baritone necks replacing the stock standard-scale necks, allowing for more string tension for lower tunings. I just recently acquired a Squier baritone Telecaster for just this purpose (the one in the video there is also baritone lol, but I just had to have that authenticity, as a massive fan, and a Fender lover myself haha).
