Great tips!
đ just found you
Very nice
how much do you ask for different size scrunchies please im from South Africa
Good to diversify. It also helps keep your vlogs interesting and not the same old stuff.
Definately agree!! If you have anything you would like to see, please let me knowđ„°
So excited to see your video tonight! Welcome back!! One of my original small business channels I subbed to! Iâm glad you are loving your full time job on the side lol you are looking fantastic! New products and new direction definitely refreshes you and gives you more motivation! Well done!
Aw thank you so much!! Very grateful for your support and cannot wait to see what you do with your channelđ„łđ„°
Welcome back! âșïž
Thank you!!đ„°
Looks amazing you did so good!! Where did you get your scrunchie display? I want to buy one to put donuts on for my kids birthdays
Thank you so much for these tips đmuch appreciated, some great ideas I'm taking on board to change, N well done to you Jemma! đ€©đâââ€
13:12 Hi đ Do you need ti Register your business name and ABN to have a stall
How do you know youre cutting it correctly when its folded
Are the water weights just cheaper than regular weights? Seems wasteful to me. Thank you for not filming the spider, eek!
Regular weight (metal weights) are actually quite expensive and hard to come by! These water weights are more practical but I would love metal weights in the future! I do make sure the water is not wasted and is used for my plants once i'm finished with the weights. The spider definitely was a shock haha!
@@HandmadeJems Oh awesome about the plants! <3
đ
Just found your channel. I am a from Canadađź.You had mentioned a scrunched clip, what is it. That is a new term for me. I am a great gramma.love sewing for my family.
Oh wow! Welcome to the channel!! A scrunchie clip is something i created a few years ago (although i'm sure i am not the first to do it), where i use a barrette clip and add fabric to look like a scrunchie. It can be used as a cheat way to wear a scrunchie or just as an extra accessory!
Same thing happened to me when I was making pillow covers for market. I was so nervous and excited that I sewed them all up without the branding tags (I have the same ones as you). So I suppose, if I really wanted to, I could always rip a tiny part of the seam out and sew in the tag (which I probably will do since it sounds a lot more complicated than it really is) But I only have the one pillow, so I don't know if it's worth it. But I totally get how annoyed you are with yourself, lol. I've been there. xoxoxo
It definitely sounds a lot more complicated than it actually was but i just wanted to make sure everything was nice and consistent. Note taken for next time to make sure i sew them in before i continue haha. Glad i'm not the only one xx
You should, have stitched the tags into the side seam of the pillowcases.đ
I did consider this but wanted to try and keep all of the pillowcases (pre made and the ones that I was making) consistent đ„°
@@HandmadeJemsI hear you there but sometimes to save sanity and reworking you pop them in another location. I have done this myself. My OCD/perfectionism didnât like it but I had to reassure myself it was OK.
8:38 Wow that aboriginal print is beautiful
Isnât it?! It is definitely one of my all time favsđ
Can I ask a question about your international order, how do you work out postage? I'm new to square and postage in general and international tax, gosh I'm so confused đ”âđ«
Postage is a big hassle- with the changes to postage rates continuing, it is very hard to keep up. The best way i would recommend is have a flat rate charge depending on the country or place (eg. US, Europe etc). You can also make sure you are incorporating some of your postage price into your product prices. Always happy to answer more questions and assist! Just a message away x
Thanks for that@@HandmadeJems yes its all a bit crazy and expensive to post anything in or from Aus
shout out to the best friend for turning inside out all those hundreds and hundreds of scrunchies ;P
I am extremely grateful xo
Nice to see you back. I had those fat quarters a couple of years back in the UK. I bought two packs and made my girls skirts. They looked great.
I LOVE them and am still undecided on what to make haha!
I agree that I prefer to buy non-Christmas themed items
Great to see you backâŠâŠ.good luck with your new job â€
Thank you xx I am loving it!
How much are your bath days and pet bandanas
My bath salts and pet bandanas are being fazed out but i was retailing them at $12-16 for bandanas and $6-18 for the bath salts (depending on the size)
I used to do small craft shows ages ago and other outdoor ones were challenging! One time I remember the wind kicking up a ton of dirt-not ideal at all. Other times it was cold.
Always so unpredictable! I don't mind a little rain or cold but wind is the worst!
Did you switch over to flattening the opening with stitching it closed rather than leaving it hollow?
Yes, I did almost 12 months ago as with growing orders and order sizes, along with improvements in my product quality, I felt it was the best option. I now make the scrunchies the exact same way except instead of handsewing the final part together (leaving it hollow), I use a clear thread and top stitch on the machine :)
You're very talented. Loved the video đ keep up the good work.
Thank you so much!!!
So sorry for your loss, losing a much loved pet is so upsetting â€. Love your video xx
Thank you Davina x
Nice behind the scenes vlog. Sorry to hear about your loss.
Thank you x
I had to laugh about the dental Cricut tools. It definitely seems that Cricut was inspired by the dentist.
I'm glad im not the only one who thinks so haha!
what's the brand of your marquee, and what do you recommend for someone just starting out in markets?
It is the "Wallaroo" brand 3x3m marquee!! Absolutely recommend as it is on the cheaper side but defiantly does not lack in quality! I just use a different marquee cover/bag that has wheels. The only downside is it does weigh approx. 20kg and isn't as compact as other marquees get :)
If i had those boards i would remove the letters , repaint the edges and vacuum the dirt off then put it all back together đ
Now this is smart! I am defiantly considering painting them but am just unsure what colour!!
Enjoy your video! I love the gift box idea! Iâm making bath salts too but I bought mason jars. The little small tubes would be much lower ingredient cost and are so cute. Need to try to make scrunchies also- hear they are popular. Thanks so much for the inspiration. Amazing how we are so far apart-Iâm in Texas but also sewing up crafts.
Thank you so much and wow, crazy hearing where in the world my videos are ending up! Thank you for your support and best of luck with your creations x
I look forward to your videos, so with that thank you for asking what we would like to see. I enjoy the whole process from buying the fabric, to cutting the fabric to the end product. The studio updates are great too đ
You are so welcome! Thank you for these ideas!! x
Thanks for the video Jemma! It gives me motivation to keep ar it with my small handmade goodies store too! Thinking of doing a market stall soon up here in Brisbane đ
I'm so glad to hear! Definitely recommend markets!! Best thing you can do is give it a go!! Best of luck and let me know if you need any tips x
Using a lint roller is the best way to clean your board. đ
Very smart haha! Thank you!!
Thanks for the video Jemma x Iâm starting a handmade small business myself (been a slow ongoing process) but your videos give me motivation and something to watch while Iâm sewing †Keep up the great work maybe some ideas that could be easier for you like a set and forget, clean up the studio, more behind the scenes ideas videos or packaging orders, maybe something different and easier for you to film maybe or a quick tutorial or a spotlight shop around & haul or market footage is always fun for us to watch! Iâm always interested in the business side of stuff like marketing costs, packaging costs, website design and prices, your thoughts selling on Etsy etc. â€
Thank you so much for the many wonderful ideas!! I am so glad you are enjoying my videos and will defiantly create some of these very soon x
Hi
All what you mentioned is good content. Maybe vlog your day outside the studio but is business related or any fabric sourcing excursions. Another video on comparing markets, website, and other means you use to sell. Which is most successful for you.
Great ideas!! Will keep these in mind, thank you x
18:45 Maybe your metal plate is damaged. at the section where the needles goes through.
Yes! This was one of the many things wrong damaged with this machine and sadly wasn't able to be fixed due to parts no longer being available :(

Furnishing fabrics
Hi Jemma! Keep going girl I would love to hear more about the audit as I have my own business would love some tips and insight from you xx
Thank you lovely! Will definitely include some more on it in my next video!! x
Do scrunchies still sell well? Love your realness and how down to earth you are about it all đ
Thank you so much! I have always said there is no point being fake or hiding the truth with things like this! There is now a very saturated market for scrunchies compared to 4 years ago when i first started. They are a lot slower in selling online but definitely still great at markets (as long as you pick the ones to suit your niche) x
You are doing amazing. In a year or 2 things will just boom again. Just have to ride it through unfortunately. Also, I have been wanting too order but no PayPal yet (hint hint)... I just feel safer using PP over CC
Thank you!! It's always slower this time of year so just need to hold tight! I haven't been able to add PayPal on the site yet but it is something i am working on i promise!! x
You sound like your on the right track, however you will find that people will still buy item from you but not as much and if you chance somethings about your store and the descriptions you never know what happens. I would like to know how your cost your items?????? I know that this will help a lot of small businesses owners by showing them that a small is as good as a holiday .....if you get my drift.
Exactly right! People will always want to support if you have reached the right audience. I am always looking at ways to improve and better myself and my business so I'm excited to see what happens in the next few months! I have been meaning to make a video about costing items so will definitely film that soon!! x
Positive thinking + your urge to create is greatâŠ. If that tape measure lifts off the desk, you can get a stick-on measuring tape that shows both inches & metric, I got mine in a sewing shop, quite cheap. Enjoy your videos đ
That's a great idea! It's managing to stay at the moment but will keep this in mind!! Thank you x
Jema ...You are amazing. Keep on going .... Your business foundation is strong . All will be well .â€â€â€â€â€â€
Thank you so much for all your support x
Smart girl. Yes non essential items will be going on the back burner for a bit in most households. Putting food on the table, utilities and keeping a roof over ones head being priortised in most households. Good on you for diversifying and being open to getting advice with the things you can change. Be interesting to see what happens here in Oz but keep ya chin up as it will only be temporary. Your an intelligent creative young woman with a lot of drive. Love those makeup wipes, so cute. đ„°
So true! Thank you so much for your support and lovely comment!! Glad I'm not the only one and hopefully the economy will change soon enough :)
Thank you for all the tips, it's much appreciated :)
My pleasure! Glad it was helpful :)
