Amazing! I don't usually start a new tracker mid-year but I'm definitely thinking about starting this one.
I was in a mood for watching something book-related and yt recced me your video and!!! Instant follow, we have a pretty decent overlap in read titles and for those that are new to me: who am I to say no to expand my tbr even further 😂 I'm looking forward to your future videos and am excited to have your older ones to catch up with 💖 (Also omg HEAVENLY TYRANT, it's my most awaited book, I have read "Iron Widow" almost in one sitting and got killed by that cliffhanger, I can't wait for it to come out!!!)
so glad i could help make your tbr even more towering 😂 i need heavenly tyrant YESTERDAY! iron widow surprised me so much, im so obsessed with every element. hopefully this is the final release date??
we love pride month vlogs <3
and we love finding 5 star queer books!!
This video just randomly popped on my feed and I'm so glad! We have so many authors/books in common! Thanks for some new titles.... you might just have convinced me to try Will of Many again
ahh so glad we found each other! i do think will of the many starts out slow but totally worth the pay off!
Omg yes!! Yellow face was so so good 💕💕 great tag video love 😘
RF Kuang is seriously a genius!! And thank you 🥰🥰
This is so much fun, I'll be trying to join! I think it has a lot of room to find new favorites, for sure!
Awesome, so glad to have you with us!
Small retraction: Masquerade is an alternate history historical fiction (as described by the author). I still stand by that it’s not a fantasy, but I would put it in speculative fiction rather than realistic.
The Paris Apartment sounds interesting. I might add that to my TBR 🙂
I had a lot of fun with it, hope you do too!
I hope you like Here We Go Again-it has a lot of heart and wonderful relationships beyond the romance. How the Word is Passed is the one boom I wish everyone would read-so glad you loved it too. I visited Whitney Plantation recently and it was amazingly well done- I highly recommend it for anyone traveling to Louisiana.
I'm so excited for Here We Go Again! Totally agree on How the Word - I've put the Whitney on my travel list!!
finally watching this!! lovely to see your trip to San Fran! you're making me want to pick up a dowry of blood - i just recently got a copy!
omg I think you'll love it!!
Best wishes with what you choose to read. I'm currently reading the Count of Monte Cristo. I might be some time!
Work
A great book series for Starstruck fans who want that similar Pretchett/Adams style of comedy with a slightly more cynical edge: the Jacques McKeown trilogy by Yahtzee Croshaw, aka Will Save The Galaxy For Food, Will Destroy The Galaxy For Cash, and the upcoming final entry Will Leave The Galaxy For Good. The stories are set in a future where interstellar travel has been made redundant by quantum tunnelling (instantaneous teleportation portals), and the protagonist is an unemployed star pilot who is forced by circumstances into impersonating Jacques McKeown, the pseudonym of a bestselling author whose works are a hagiographic melange of various real star pilots and space heroes, which leads to various hijinks.
that sounds so cool! thanks for the rec 😊
I'm surprised you didn't mention the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy when talking about Starstruck Odyssey, it's a classic that I would highly recommend. Not sure which specific series you would tie it to but I'd recommend The Lies of Locke Lamora if you haven't read it. It's got found family, magic, and sweeping heist akin to Six of Crows but I wouldn't say it was a Fantasy High comp title.
i havent read it yet somehow so i couldnt put it on my list! thanks for the recs!
You missed the obvious choice for Starstruck Odyssey, Starstruck by Ellaine Lee. Admittedly it's a graphic novel but it still counts as a book.
yes they couldve been on here! i did mention them but between me not having read them and them not being novels i left them out. i really should try them out though!
I think the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy would also be a good match for anyone who likes a starstruck odyssey.
i havent read it yet so it couldnt make the list! great choice 😊
When you said fantasy high, I was like hmmm which one would be the same themes and immeaditly thought of percy jackson as well.
Great minds!!
I have been meaning to start reading again because Dimension 20 has swallowed all of my free time as of recent. I will be following your recommendations closely
All I do is watch and rewatch D20 lately, I can't watch anything else lol!!
@@bujobooks Wednesday D 20, Thursday Adventuers party Friday and Sat the Critical Role episode. I guess I can read Monday and Tuesday. Good thing I read a lot when I was younger I can still pretend to be educated.
felt this so hard hahaha
I have been meaning to start reading more books again because Dimension 20 has swallowed my free time. I will be following the recommendations closely
Was looking for new books to read, tysm for this video❤❤❤
so glad i could help!!!
I think it looks good just the way it is. The ring light is usually too artificial.
Idk why but whenever I see your eyes it reminds me of the Mistborn series.
Welcome to booktube 📚☕
Thank you!
I've been getting a lot of smaller booktube recommendations the past while and none have really clicked, but this channel is super high quality. Subscribed and I hope you keep posting!
aw thank you so much! i’ve definitely got some fun stuff coming so i hope you stick around :)
This is amazinggg. From a fellow data nerd, can't wait to dig into this template. However I was wondering if you can make a multi-year version or educate us on how to do yearly comparisons like you did in your previous video, the one comparing data from 3 years. Thanks so much!! Well done!
Thank you so much! I've been thinking hard for a while now about how to make a multi-year sheet work. At the moment I've been copying my stats from each of these annual sheets and compiling them in one place, but it's great to know other people are interested in seeing their own version of this! I'll definitely be posting updates if I can get something in the works :)
I read Dracula for the first time last year. Now I feel I should read Dowery of Blood. My favourite reads from 2023 are: The Splinter in the Sky by Kemi Ashing-Giwa, The Tea Planter's Wife by Dinah Jefferies, NPCs by Drew Hayes, Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card, War of the Whales: A True Story by Joshua Horwitz, The Burning 1 & 2 by Evan Winter, The Neptune Project by Polly Holyoke, The Soulmate Equation by Christina Lauren
I hadn't gotten around to Dracula but I've been meaning to. I can't recommend Dowry of Blood enough regardless of if you've read it!
What were your favorite books of 2023?
I participated in freezathon and my december reads were all over the place bc I was trying to complete some reading goals (and mostly failed lmao), but it was really fun going over the prompts every time I finished a book and trying to see what could fit. I hope that it comes back at the end of the year!
Thank you so much for participating! I've gotten a lot of positive feedback so I'm definitely planning on running it again next year <3
I love how detailed this video was! The Way of Kings is the longest that I read last year and the longest book I’ve ever read
thank you!! hopefully you'll be continuing and that'll change ;)
so glad to see you gush over lovelight farms!!!
it was such a good way to end the year <3
Great video :D I had a violent flu last week as well so I can relate 😅 Do you have some suggestions for someone who wants to start reading crime/thriller books? Do you think The Long Walk is a good starter or maybe start with a smaller book? I would love to hear your recommendations, thank you :) And OMG Howl's Moving Castle!!! It's such a beautiful story. I didn't know there was a book. Just saw the movie and it's really great. Would love to hear your thoughts of the movie as well :)
So The Long Walk - while I enjoyed and would recommend - I wouldn’t say is representative of the genre (or even of King). Here are some beginner titles grouped by genre: Mystery: Thursday Murder Club, any Agatha Christie. Thrillers (lighter in tone): Rachel Hawkins books, The One by John Marrs, Rebecca Thrillers (a little darker): In My Dreams I Hold a Knife, Gone Girl, Ace of Spades (YA) Horror: If you want to stick with King, start with The Shining/Misery. Otherwise, The Honeys (YA), We Ride Upon Sticks. My favorite author is Mona Awad but she might not be for first timers!
@@bujobooks Thank you so much for your recommendations :D The author I read the most is Agatha Christie and she's amazing! I will probably check out In My Dreams I Hold a Knife and Misery the start with!
🙏 Promo-SM
this is so in depth and thus I'm absolutely obsessed
thank you so much I'm a perfectionist can you tell lol
I am so excited!!!
I am too!! Friday can't come soon enough!
This is amazing. You've given me ideas for things to add to my own spreadsheet. Thank you.
So happy I could help!!
Ahhh so cool to be featured in a CZcams video haha! I cannot wait, it’s going to be such a fun, magical month of reading🫶🏼
i’m so happy you joined the team!! so excited for december!
Really love the video, I have notice recently everyone adding the Authors sexuality gender and race into there tracking. I have never cared and judged purely off of quality of the book. Just curious what do you get out of tracking those, and do you feel it enhances your reading experience? Genuinely interested, I have no problem with tracking it, just curious what the thought process behind it is :) thanks so much for your great video!!
Hi, thanks! Part of it is just curiosity, and part of it is wanting to see if the authors that I'm picking up are from a variety of backgrounds and if the representation I'm reading is from "Own Voices" authors. It's important to me - especially since I read so much and definitely have the time for it - that I'm reaching for authors who are different from me!
I was so disappointed with Glass Hotel 😔 There was the teensiest smidgen of magical realism but not enough to save the story for me. 😢
Same here! From what I had read from the author before I just didn't live up to her other books.
What did you read in September? Any new favorites?
I have Dino dice too! Mine is blue with this Dino: 🦕 I used it for my spookoplothon game as well :) The Hacienda was really good! Definitely creepy vibes but in the best way.
aww yay dino buddies!! I ended up LOVING it! I'm not usually one for haunted houses but this one did it right
finally catching up on your vids!! obsessed with the fact that you actually read the books for your yearly challenges...unlike me lol
in my defense I did kind of curate those lists because I have failed in the past lollll
soooo excited for winter's orbit!
me too!! just tell me when ❤
Wrong place, wrong time is amazing! I loved it.
oh thats so good to hear!! im definitely anticipating it being a new favorite since i love time travel
love your lego figure and dice! i quite liked winter's orbit and the hacienda is on my autumn tbr :))
ahh thank you i think theyre so cute 😊😊 i have massive hopes for both, cant wait to hear your thoughts on hacienda!
A thousand fairytales thy veins conduct which lightning paused within our arms retells. Our rocking chair hearts hum their favorite parts so might we love eternal parallels. Our helix ribbons love to ballroom dance, embodying the couples we were once. Perhaps that’s why the universe expands to give those ghosts a larger hall to waltz. And there our former phantoms socialize; The Pillars Of Creation muraling. Serendipitously, space has spilt its wine. That’s why I think all soulmates twirl again; a soulmate that you swear you’ve met before? in Death? On Earth? Who they are ? Who they were...
As you are to books, I am to movies and tv shows. That Halloween themed monopoly looks really cool.
I’m also a really big Percy Jackson fan and I can’t wait for this new series. I’ve rewatched the trailer multiple times, super excited for this series and I can’t wait to see the other books adapted for future seasons.
Can't wait for this series
The showrunners have made other good shows,so that's a good sign. If I had a nickel for everytime a fantasy book show had showrunners who are products of nepotisim,I'd have two nickels.
I love seeing other Percy Jackson fans react to this, realizing that this is what we've been waiting for since the failure of the first movie.
