Actually, when I do this test, the most difficult problem is how to fix the sample. I will be appreciated if there is a video showing us how to fix the samples of different shapes.
Awesome picture
You always wanted to clean the cribs out the following year. Never wanted to carry corn over. Rats would move in on old corn.
Later on when combines come out there were some farmers would rig there combine up to shell out of a crib. I still have 2 wire cribs I could fill. I thought about rigging my combine up to shell the cribs out next summer. I still grind some livestock feed.
Good machine. Our local sheller was a 58 International and a MM Sheller. Know for sure it did 1500 bu. a day at least on 1970.
Isn’t that hydraulic motor cheating…every one knows we’re not to stick their hands
Nice setup, first corn crib I’ve seen that didn’t have any rats🤓
and no rat wire
Very interesting video thanks for sharing well done you all
A good guided tour of an impressive machine 👍
When family and neighbors got together to work and fellowship
Lot of years of experience running this equipment. Ingenuity, common sense and Jerry rigging. Thanks from an old CT farm hand.🇺🇸🐢🐄🚒🚑
Why didn’t you guys go to a lower level or lobby?

What are they doing to him
Thank you for doing this. It brought back memories of when we did this, 50 years ago, as a kid.
You're welcome! Feel free to see it in action shelling corn at each year's Pioneer Harvest Fiesta in Fort Scott, KS. This year's dates for demonstrations are October 18 thru Octtober 20, 2019
I was afraid of damage when using the tractor to set the drags!
They probably were, too, though that was an experienced crew.
cool video, love the race...love swimming videos. subscribed.
I like this rig. To bad it didn't have more corn to shell
The truck and sheller rig is pretty cool....looks like it has very respectable capacity. Shelling corn was always a fun time when I was a kid. The neighbors would come over and all work together. Then lunch time all together. Great memories....
1800 bushel per hour capacity. This video shows us running it slower than that since we weren't sure it would do the job after sitting not running and exposed to weather for at least 3 years. Jobs were fun as a kid when they didn't seem like work, right? :)
Yeah, Jim. I remember, when I was a kid, the owner of the corn sheller having a strained look on his face when he was making sure everything was always working good. Every once in a while he would stop the machine because something was loose, needed oil or grease, or needed adjusting. It gave everyone a little break from scratching and shoveling. Yes, Jim, it was more work than a kid realized at the time! But the nice thing was that everyone worked together and the work seemed a little more fun and easier.
What brand is the truck and the sheller?
Gary Van Rheenen 1932 Le Moon
Gary Van Rheenen 1950 Belle City Joliet Big 6 corn sheller
Who’se the farmer that owned the truck?
What does it cost to shell per bushel
Sorry for my delayed reply. I don't see the notifications very often. No idea on cost per bushel. I think Grandpa used to get anywhere from 2.5 sense to $0.10 per bushel in the seventies and eighties if I remember some of the ledgers correctly.
I am 60 now, the day required teamwork, I remember our Days.
I truly admire how America received its food. Thanks for recording history, without it were lost of how the process has developed.
Safety used to be a Family Culture!!
You guy's were more safe than today!!
Jim you are really good, you are a true CEO. Not many made like you left, your extremely a well rounded guy.
I'm not sure if you're referring to my Dad or me, though thanks!
That's a great old set up, glad to see you using it and thanks for sharing!
Sorry for the delayed reply. I agree about the set-up, and you're welcome!
A great way for a family to work together.
I agree.
what brand of sheller is this?
Joliet Big 6 made by Belle City Manufacturing Company of Racine, WI.
was unit a pull type that was mounted onto a truck?
This truck is now in Pittsburgh Kansas I believe. They drove it up to Adrian Mo for the Summer steam show of 2014. They left the show just as the heaviest rain to see Adrian in quite a while started!
Did the Cob Truck and the Leaf Wagon go to Fort Scott too? Seems like the Leaf Wagon had to go with it because it had the Special Boards in it. You just can replace those Special Custom Boards.
No. Grandpa disassembled the husk wagon when he retired from shelling and sold the wagon. The boards were gotten rid of, too. It would be nice to create a new husk wagon some day.
Kindly send the price to aymanshady50@yahoo.com
It's a 1944 Buda diesel from a Greyhound bus dropped onto the 1932 Le Moon truck the sheller is mounted on. All items on the sheller were junked or used items except for 4: The sheller itself, the transfer case, the variable speed transmission on the rear (to vary the speed of the drags independent of the elevator in), and the Frantz oil filter.
What engine is that? Cummins? what make of truck? looks un-familiar,as far as the 1950 rigs that I remember.
Joliet Big 6 corn sheller
what brand sheller is that?
Don, I'm not familiar with my grandfather, Harold Kemmerer, ever owning a Cook Special. As I understand it the sheller in my videos was purchased new in 1950 after Grandpa traded in his previous sheller. The sheller in the video is the only sheller he had from 1950 until his passing.

What ever became of Harold's Cook Special? I remember his machine as a nice one that he took good care of.
Found it out myself: He said: "Buda engine"
Of which brand was the engine...? Can´t quite understand it. Did he say "Bührer"?
That mouse at 6:15 ,,, We always had rats in our crib. Never saw a mouse in there.
That sheller really goes through the corn fast. I love it. I have put two bushels of ear corn through my 1891 moutvill 2-hole corn sheller in one minute. Search my name to see it in action.
Fort Scott is where I, a grandson and caretaker of the machine, live. Yes on family treasure. If I hadn't made arrangements to have it stored in Fort Scott then the previous museum would have kept it.
