@@iunstable0 well the best way to test it is to unplug just your outgoing connection from either your modem or router. Then use only the phone interface, and try to turn on and off a light. The traffic shouldn’t need to contact either Apple or the manufacturer for that to work. This is why typically using HomeKit compatible devices with iPhone is a little bit faster than the same device on Google home (I have both). If you need to use Siri or you need to control your home from outside your network that’s another story.

@@triparadox.c I do own and use both HomeKit (Siri) as well as google home, and I kinda understand why google did what they did. Google wants to support a larger number of devices, and in order for that to scale you kinda have to route commands to the servers. Ask any device manufacturer, and they’ll tell you that it’s much harder to be HomeKit certified, part of the reason is because of this local access requirement. The prices for the devices also reflect that difficulty and often more expensive than their Google home counterpart. But it’s my home, it’s easy cost to justify to me.

Nah, all you have to do is swap the light switches for smart ones, DL the app and set it up. 3 switches are like $50

You can either swap the switch into smart, or the bulb into smart. It's honestly cheap. You can do 1 room per month, and you won't really notice the cost.

Button on the top right we’re you add devices, you can create rooms. Also you can click on a device, click the cog icon and group them to similar device and or reassign them to a different room

Same concept like other gate locks, probably need to add a box at the lock set area.

With thread being adopted needing internet will be a thing of the past
