i think to make it more stealth and to avoid radar signature
Its designed never needing to be in a dogfight and only engage enemy from distance/BVR , and since the gun is needed in a dogfight (or in a DCS game), they are not needed. If it ever engages in a war, it will always be accompanied/escorted by other fighter jets such as J10c or Wingman drones, which can handle any dogfights if ever needed so the stealth can return back to safety.
