Thanks a lot!
You’re welcome!
At 2:38, shouldn't you get a Point instead of a movement on the track?
Hey Dan. What version of NY is better, 2016 or 2022? I know the 2016 version of the original game is better than the recent one but in my notes I wrote that the 2022 version of NY is better, but I didn't elaborate how or where I got that info from. I'm sure you must know though. Thanks!
For NY it’s almost impossible to find the old version these days. The new version many people like the set better but the board and pieces are a little smaller. So i still prefer the older version, but others I played with like the newer version better. So it depends it you like the new board look better and characters. If so even though it’s slightly smaller it will be better for you
Heat is not a racing game. It's a card game with a racing theme. You really should check out Race Pace. This game oozes racing. You're not the driver, but a race team manager trying to manage race incidents, tyre wear and tyre strategy, weather conditions, car setup, driver coaching. It sounds complex but it's quite easy to understand. It's from Bad Rule Games.
I’ll check out Race Pace! And although Heat is hugely about hand management, the first one crossing the line wins, so it definitely is considered a racing game. Any game where the first to get to a certain point threshold or win s race would be in that category :)
Does the game is available in the US?
I’m not sure if it has a North American distributor yes, but contact Bombyx and I’m sure they’ll let you know!
Pixies will be available in the US in a few weeks thanks to Pandasaurus
Just recieved my kickstarter Dark Tomb : Bloodthorn Island box (with Crypts of Aurelian pleged as an option). Your video is a great kickstart on how to play Dark Tomb games 👍 Now I have to read the rules' booklet, but it by far simpler to understand when you have seen how a game is played : thanx for that 🙂
I’m glad it helped!
Thanks for this. Solid overview. One question: can a player look through the discard pile?
Looks too luck dependent - is it really better than "Top Trumps"?
We played Aqua and Harmonies back to back last night. It will take a while to articulate but Harmonies was vastly more fun. I think the main things are the wider decision tree and more enjoyable payoffs in Harmonies. Well, and the horribly worded scoring in Aqua
Thanks for explaining-I backed this but it hasn’t hit the table. Cinema sounds like Sid’s version of Reiner’s Dream Factory.
Maybe Dream Factory was Reiners version of Cinema since Sids notes from this game was from the 80’s. But in all reality no one saw them until recent years!
How will they release this? Will it come with a cardboard release of the OG game?
Roads of Fortune expansion is currently listed on Arcane Wonders webstore. The cardboard edition of the game (no 3d buildings) will be called Foundations of Metropolis, and uses a different theme. Expansions may or may not be created for that edition.
In addition to getting it from the publisher your local game store might have it (Mine did) www.arcanewonders.com/product/roads-of-fortune-foundations-of-rome-expansion/
unlimited is boring imo. I like destiny better and I play tournaments in both games. Although i really like the idea of sideboard, nonetheless there is nothing more than i could think of that i prefer in unlimited over than in destiny
Colors.
Lots of them!
So excited this is back up on Gamefound. Stretch pay ready!
Thanks for the review. I think that I will get this for my family and maybe for group camping trips.
Please talk about Cinque Terre. It is better than TTR in my opinion
I've been talking about Cinque Terre for a long time now, and I've been trying to get a reprint happening! Definitely lots of similarities to TTR with the goal cards based on what you did previously by the pick up and deliver aspect also makes it feel very different at the same time!
@@TheGameBoyGeeks Yeah, if you make people talk about it more, it might gain traction and eventually, they might consider printing it. I know you have talked about it years ago 😗😗
@@ImpossibleWhopper111 it couldn’t hurt to add your vote to reprint here boardgamegeek.com/thread/2906540/reprint-any-time-soon
citrus is a gem wish they made a new edition
I know TMG made a new version Before they went out of business.
@@TheGameBoyGeeks i own it, an dunfortunately it is the same as the original. absolutely horridly illustrated. very old school.
@@lajeit I actually got rid of Citrus when Renature came out. Even though it doesn't have the cool tile drafting, the main area control part felt very similar enough to each other and I like Renature better.
Hmmm, we like meanness.
I do too :) But definitely when teaching non gamers it’s not an ideal feeling
Thanks for playing and sharing, Dan! Glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for giving me the opportunity! I think many people are going ot love this one!
It seems like maybe some of the aspects of the scheme are similar to the silver games such as silver coin, etc. where it a strategy card game, but it also comes down to a lot of luck of what cards you get you can be doing really well in those games and someone could draw a card right at the end and dump it on you and cause you to lose so there’s a lot of highs and lows in the silver games. Definitely some memorable moments and some frustrating moments but I love those games so I think I’m gonna want to pick up a copy of this because I also love baseball.
If you love baseball, then you will likely enjoy the game!
I want to grab a copy. Is the expansion a no brainer or does it mess with the core box too much? Thanks!
The expansion does add some cool teams, one of them relies on a take that mechanism (Detroit Dirtbags). But the other 3 are fun. with that being ssid, the base game does provide a lot of replayability since there are many team combinations. so i woukdnt say the expansion is a must have right off the bat.
@@TheGameBoyGeeks Appreciate it! YOu knocked it outta the park what that pun! :P
You took my recommendation. I knew you'd like it! They are doing another game in this universe that is about being a baseball owner.
Yes dynasty! And thanks for the rec!
Play ball!
Yrrrrr out!
This game looks like a lot of fun. Different topic, but do you know why the Spiel De Jahres nominations aren't out yet? They usually are at this point.
They usually are but I think I read somewhere it well be June 6th
This is my first Knizia game and I’m impressed! I agree with everything expressed in this video. The ying yang of building routes/scoring on the board vs running up each track is challenging - but fun if you like “crunchy” games. Also unlike, the multiplayer solitaire games out there, Cascadero has a great deal of player interaction as you have to keep an eye on other players and what routes they’re building or suffer the consequences. Our group (2-3-4 players) enjoy it at all player counts. But, you can see the end coming quickly if there is a runaway leader and there is no final scoring. So when someone crosses the 50 pt finish line. It’s done. Our group has been toying with the idea of a house rule that gives everyone else one more turn. Wish there were some end game point scoring opportunities. Probably the euro gamer in me. For 15 minutes per person (very accurate), it is a great quick game that has a lot of depth despite its speed.
Good synopsis!
Me: hey group, let's play this game. It only takes 40 min to set up, 30 min to watch the how to video, 2.5hrs to play, and 40 min to put away. You brought a sleeping bag, right?
Great guide! Wife and I bought this last night - excited to get into it.
For anyone interested there is a Pokemon edition of point salad
What? I never heard of this!
@TheGameBoyGeeks its called point salad eevee, only in Korean though
Do exploded sections of the mothership get restored at the end of a warp?
If you use the description in the video for further questions it will likely get answered by the designer or publisher.
I agree that the scoring process is the hook of the game, but playing out your cards with that scoring in mind is what makes this a fantastic puzzle to figure out! Great video, as always!
Great game! It has lot of mechanichs in one only boardgame. Take that style and much more! Greetings frrom Spain❤❤❤❤
I agree with most of your points, except for the time. On our first play we took about 90 minutes, but that was with the teach, so in playtime we were well within the 75 min timeframe on the box....
a thoughtful, honest, well reasoned review. just your usual GameBoyGeek mic drop. thanks for this and all your work. gotta go check out Reef.
Thanks glad you enjoyed the review
I really like Blue Lagoon, Y&Y and Babylonia. Just played Through the Desert and thought i would like it more than Blue Lagoon but didn't, and it was because of the ending. It feels like in Blue Lagoon there is always more to do, but Through the desert kinda ran out of things to do and we still had more camels. But, it was just two players, so who knows. Cascadero kinda bugs me because it's not like the rest of those, it has tracks on the side, which is not like the others. I like just the board with hexes and the game is all pure tile laying. Haven't played it though.
Cascadero bugs you because it is not like the others. Ok.
@@elqord.1118 Yep, it bugs me. I'm not a game reviewer so I can be senile.
@@jrobinson5053 have at it
Thanks for great review
You're welcome!
Knizia is by far my favorite designer and I have a lot of games designed by him. Through the Desert is easily my favorite Knizia game along with Samurai, and I played like 40 different Knizia games. Blue Lagoon was very boring for me and I sold it. With that said, Cascadero looks good but the fact you compared it to Blue Lagoon makes me uninterested.
The reason for comparing it to Blue Lagoon was the same reason as Through the Desert (route building) If you Through the desert is your favorite Knizia, definitely don't skip this one.The publisher mentioned "Imagine Through the Desert’s tile placement mixed with Mille Fiori’s combos and a sprinkling of Babylonia’s concepts, and you’re not too far off."
@@TheGameBoyGeeks I think the reason i dislike Blue Lagoon is the more "point salad" feel with different scores for each stuff and I always forget what points each item gives, then there is 2 "eras" and the concept is cool but in practice I didn't enjoy it. Also think that placing only one pieace in a Knizia route building makes me feel like the game is slower and has less options to do in the same turn (Babylonia you put multiple pieces in the same turn and you have different pieces to consider, the same goes for Through the Desert that has different camel colors). Maybe Cascadero will give me a different feel, I am going to try once I find someone who has it.
Hmmm, Through the Desert is among Knizia's top 3. It is so pure and genius. Don't work well with odd numbers though. That is true. I have backed Cascadero, not recieved it yet.
Based on their last update it sounds like either you should have gotten it already, or possibly anytime now. You might want to doublecheck with them that your pledge manager was filled out and they have your info.

Agree that this is a great game!
One of my favs
Wow! thanks for the review - looking forward to getting this game.
Hope you enjoy it!
So you make decisions merely on appearances? No actual fact finding? This sounds very shallow and encouraging prejudice :(
Yes please we would love to see this published - coop Dixit sounds great! - 1st world problems. Much more importantly, a stop to the war on Ukraine would be perfect too! This hopefully will enable the citizens to return to business (including this game creator) and restore their beautiful country.
Me too!
Can you loose lor if one of your characters are banished or do those stay the same
The Crew also comes to mind, limited communication and cooperative. I think the limited communication can feel "less fun" but depends on the group. Great to hear it has a solid solo mode, a big plus.
You don’t have to tell us what you’re going to teach us… You could just teach it
That’s interesting you like reef more, I played reef and hated it. I personally give harmonies a 10! I also don’t compare it to cascadia, i compare it to deep vents which is another game I love, but a game that mostly everyone hated. And as for aqua i think deep vents Is better than AQUA. But since I haven’t played aqua that might change if I ever decide to buy it.
Excellent review.. just picked up my copy and can't wait to play it Dan 🙌
I got this game and can never convince my wife to play it because it's too complicated. Decided to watch this video to prove her wrong.. unfortunately I think she's right sheesh
