You only need a battery if the bike generates electricity with an alternator. Many older bikes are equipped with magnetos, which use rare earth magnets to induce an electrical current in a coil. I have a '77 xs400 and that requires a small battery because it uses an alternator.

@MrMsinglink Actually with the xs400, It Uses a excited coil system meaning it requires a battery to run unless this bike has been converted to a permanent magnet style system.. will try to find a refrence to explain what I mean, I am posting from my phone atm

I looked very carefully & didn't see a battery. I'm guessing that since there is no horn or turn signals, the front light has a switch, & he kicked it to start ,it doesn't have a battery. If your'e not running a bunch of electrical stuff, & have a kick starter you really don't need a battery for older bikes. Newer computer chipped bikes are a different story.

Why just a hard, flat hunk o' metal for a seat? I'd put a nice, soft, deep, cushy, humpy leather seat on it that felt good when u ride...I can't IMAGINE going more than a MILE on that rock hard thing!?

Nice bike. Exhaust wrap isn't a good idea though, it will rot your pipes. Looks good, but is awful in the long run.
