EASTER BASKET

This little Easter basket is a great way of gifting chocolate eggs or, you can use it as a decorative centrepiece on your Easter Sunday table! I have used 1.5mm aluminium for the framework and woven it with 0.4mm gauge. The framework is inspired by my large flower plant sticks. Therefore, if you can make this, you can also make some big decor flowers!

This fun project can be scaled down in size for a brooch or pendant, but it generally works well as a garden or home decor ornament with 1.5mm aluminium wire decorated with seed beads for extra colour and detail. It's a perfect project to do with all the family, young and old!

This video will show you the basic technique for creating a beautiful tree of life pendant. Even though Linda demonstrates it in a teardrop wire frame, it can be wired into any shaped frame of your choice. The wire for the outer frame can be anything from 0.8mm to 1mm and the tree with branches can be created out of 0.4mm gauge wire.

Branch Earrings

This wire twisting tiara technique is ideal for making these branch stem earrings (and/or pendants) that are light and delicate to wear. They're created out of 0.4mm gauge wire and in this video, I use turquoise chip gemstone beads, but you can use crystals, multiple seed beads, any bead type that isn't too heavy for the fine wire.

GOLDFISH PENDANT

I had a special request for this design from Julie. The 'body' of the fish has a very fluid feel, as it's created with my 'Cheat Chainmaille', which you can build up with jump rings of any type and colour. I have used 0.8mm gilt plated copper wire throughout, but endless variations are possible!

What wore did you use please
I mention the wire I use in my video tutorial. For the frame I used 0.9mm (and 1mm is also good) and for the tree, I used 0.4mm.
What wire size you used for circular frame please
If you listen to the tutorial, I mention that I have used 1.6mm gauge aluminium wire for the circular frame of this particular pendant.
What beads did you use and what size please
I used a flat oval (marquise) shaped bead of about 20mm long. But you can use any bead for this. Although definitely easier with a flat oval. ☺
Beautiful! I’m brand new at making wire jewelry. :) If you were to wire wrap beads to the cross or affix them some way other than glue, how would you do it?
You would use 0.4mm (26gauge) to connect them on to the centre.

I am guessing this is being filmed in a European venue. We don't use the term "binding wire," that I have ever heard, first off. What is your definition of binding wire? What GAUGE is it, most importantly. And, of course, we need to know what is the composition? Is it solid sterling silver or silver covered copper or brass or what? "0.4 wire" also means nothing to your American audience PROBABLY. (Of course, someone in some other state will, no doubt, pop up and tell me THEY know what it is! But, generally speaking, American video instructions always give the GAUGE.)
Thank you for your enquiry and I will try to answer all your questions. I am based in the U.K. I am not an American. I used the term 'binding wire' as I am binding with it. However, it really doesn't matter what gauge it is, as long as it's easy enough to bind or wrap with. I personally use 0.4mm gauge, which is 26 gauge in the U.S. You can choose any wire you wish, Sterling Silver or, as I did in this video, silver-plated copper wire. If you would like an approximate gauge chart, this might help: 28 gauge = 0.3mm 26 gauge = 0.4mm 24 gauge = 0.5mm 22 gauge = 0.6mm 20 gauge = 0.8mm 18 gauge = 1mm I do hope that helps!

I’m so, so happy to have found this video. I’ve tried making a rose ring several times, with really disappointing results. I just made this ring (6mm rose quartz stone, 20 gauge rose colored wire) and it came out PERFECTLY on the very first try! I think one of the reasons this ring worked (when so many have not) is that center stone (I’ve not seen another rose ring with a stone). It takes care of the “ugly center” problem I’ve been having. @@LindaJonesWireJewellery Hello, I tried to make a dragonfly with 22 gauge wire and it didn't work because I used 8mm round Swarovskis for the body and it was not too sturdy. It broke so I went for the 20 gauge. I used 4mm round Swarovskis to decorate the wings and it turned out gorgeous. I can wear it as a pendant or use it as a Christmas tree ornament or a sun catcher. I think 22 gauge is for a small piece with 4mm crystals for the body. I found your book on Amazon and I've ordered it 🙂 Thank you again 💐🙏

As you found out (the hard way) if you use thinner gauges of wire, you have to scale your pieces to be smaller, with smaller beads, as the wire won't take the weight. So great to see another video from you. You got me started on making my own (very simple) findings. You make everything look so effortless. I'm getting better at it and I love the feeling of accomplishment when I get it right :) I've yet to get some thick aluminium wire (See what I did there? aluminium) but it's on my list. I'm going for 16g for flowers and hearts and, if I'm up to it, baskets. I wish America would adopt metric like the rest of the world. If people are stupid enough to vote for Trump they're not going to have the intelligence to learn metric. I'm not even sure they know imperial. Or much of anything, really. I vow to do everything within my power to stop the orange grifter from coming to power again. Then, maybe, we can work on adopting metric. It would be so much easier.

The wire you use makes a huge difference to getting the wire or metal to flare out. It has to be SOFT, not half hard. Have you worked with aluminium wire? If not, try that and then practice how the wire spreads when hammered, as that is always soft. If I was teaching and helping you, I would give you some 1.5mm aluminium wire. Get you to make some squiggly shapes and doodles and then hammer then to see how it spreads and flattens. It does take practice, so don't get down. Learning a skill is an on-going evolutionary process 😃❤❤❤

Lovely. The twisted links really catch the light. Is it possible to do a tutorial on how you seal your plated metal or raw copper to prevent tarnishing? Everyone seems to use something different and there are so many products on the market. I just wondered what you use. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
I don't seal with anything. I buy tarnish resistant wire. And if pieces aren't being worn or displayed, they are kept in self-seal bags away from oxygen and humidity. If I do have tarnish problems, I dip in silver cutlery dip (beads and all) and rinse and dry well to remove the tarnish.

I ordered some wire after watching your videos and it arrived today. I got 20 gauge and 18 gauge but I think 16 gauge is closer to 1mm. I'll order 16g next time. I found your Whammer at Artbeads so that's next on my list. Thank you for your wonderful tutorials!
Here's a rough wire gauge chart: 26gauge= 0.4mm, 22gauge=0.6mm, 20gauge=0.8mm, 18gauge=1mm, 16gauge=1.25mm, 14gauge=1.5mm, 12gauge=2mm Then you have to factor in their hardness, i.e. I always purchase SOFT if it's silver plated copper, as I can work-harden it by manipulation and hammering. So my advice, when you're just starting out is not to get too bogged down with gauges. Just use what you've got and see how it feels and you'll find your own style and way. For wire home decor, I usually use aluminium, as they are light and the chunky gauges such as 1.6mm & 2mm are really easy to shape. 'Go with the flow' and play with what you have to hand! :-)
