Great video of sailing! Only ever sailed once - on the Merlin of Clyde yacht. Would love to do it all again! 😀
Exalant video
Thank you - glad you enjoyed it.
Loving all your trips and the information that you have on where you visit. Looking forward to more.
Thanks. Yes, more to come. We have just been busy sailing :)
Looks like orienteering punches those clicky things. Thank you enjoyed your video
That is what we guessed - there seemed to be quite a lot of them. Glad you enjoyed the video.
I lived there from 1974 to 1977 when my husband was a lighthouse keeper there. Our daughter was 6 weeks old when we arrived there.
That would have been pretty hard I imagine. Wild on a bad day, and the road is difficult in the winter too. And a baby too - you must be made of tough stuff!
This might be a dumb question but are you allowed to go onto private property like that? In the US it’s trespassing unless there is an easement just curious how it works in Europe.
Not a dumb question at all - in Scotland there exists a right to roam. You cannot start wandering through private gardens, but open land is just that - open. You do have to adhere to the outdoor access code, which means dogs under control, close gates and so on - in other words responsible access and not total freedom to do as you like.
What a beautiful area. I love Argyll and your videos are showing places I know and love. I like going along to Cairnbaan.
Glad you enjoyed the video. This is one of our favourite walks, from the Dunardry locks towards Crinan.
Stunning. I stayed one night in summer and it was glorious.
Glad you enjoyed the video. We count ourselves very lucky as its a regular dog walk for us.
wonderful video thank you 🙂
Thank you - glad you enjoyed it!
some nice sunset shots 👍
Thank you - its a great spot for sunsets.
Thanks for doing this video. I was lucky enough to stay at the Mull of Kintyre when my brother in law was a lighthouse keeper. Brilliant memories.
Thanks, and glad you enjoyed it!
Very nice Puffins 💚🌏🌎🌍

Glad you enjoyed the video.
I’ve discovered Sanda through the recent listing! Beautiful video of the island! Liked and subscribed
Glad you enjoyed the video, and welcome aboard!
This is the landscape and the weather that I love so much, and then after a long walk a glass of peated whiskey by an open fire to optimize the salty taste and air in your mouth !!! 💯👍🏻💯👍🏻💯👍🏻💯👍🏻💯👍🏻
You have summed it all up perfectly! Glad the video was able to help you conjure that feeling.
Just discovered your channel and love it - getting better all the time!😀
Yes it has been a bit of a journey, learning about recording and editing videos. Really pleased to hear that you think they are getting better - Thank you.
Fantastic video, would love to visit Sanda island myself, love the sunset there👍
Thank you. It's a lovely place - very peaceful, but such an exposed location. $3m and it's yours apparently!
Yeah its definitely worth more than $3 million, I've been to Arran, Skye, Rothesay and Millport this year and gonna do Isle of Mull next but maybe sometime soon would like to try visit the Isle of Sanda, looks so peaceful there👍
Cheers from Tallahassee, Florida, USA. I have visited the islands only as a tourist. I hope to return someday.
The draw of the west coast of Scotland is strong! I'm sure you will be back soon.
Ai, the odd plants you showed are very dangerous and from amerika. It is a hard plant to remove and very toxic 8:26
We think it is called thorn apple, so that matches with what you mention - from the USA and poisonous. Anyway, we didn't handle them fortunately!
@@tarbertsailing i liked the video by the way!
Thank you - very kind
Thanks for sharing your experience. How much did it cost to moor?
Glad you enjoyed it Steve. We drove/walked here, and our boat is based in Tarbert (about 1 hour drive away). I wouldn't advise mooring at the mull in any conditions to be honest.
Lovey video. Lovely place. Island now on sale for USD $3.1 million. A steal if you ask me.
Thanks, and glad you enjoyed the video. Yes it is a lovely place on a nice day. Water is the problem on the island - no fresh supply and no lochs that I am aware of. The cottages are nice though, but awful bleak on a wet and windy day. Are you in the market for an island then?
@@tarbertsailing I'm afraid Island-buying is not a financial possibility in the near future. But I'm a Scot by blood and would love to travel back one day. I feel the homeland pull.
When Inchmarnock was up for sale, we said that (subject to a lottery win) we would buy it and turn it into a wildlife sanctuary! Anyway, we are still waiting for the lottery win :)
Very cool! I was at Ballycastle in Co. Antrim the other day looking over at the Mull of Kintyre, was very clear and could easily see the lighthouse from Torr Head
We have had some really clear days recently, so not surprised that you got a good view of the lighthouse. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Delightful
thank you - glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for this beautiful video. Wondering if there are also Orca's in these regions? We were in 2010 on the island Aran, doing a motorcycling / camping trip. Best regards from the Netherlands 🙂
There are very occasionally Orca in the Clyde, and more frequently seen around the Outer Hebrides. Not the rudder eating variety though :)
Enjoying watching your videos , realised we’re mooring neighbours!
Thanks for the feedback on our videos! I hope that you aren't on your boat today - wet and windy at the moment.
@@tarbertsailing had planned to come last Saturday …. I’ll wait till the weather settles!
Beau terrain de jeu pour faire de la voile 👍
it certainly is a very beautiful sailing ground - we love it.
@@tarbertsailing It looks like the Gulf of Morbihan to the south of Little Brittany where I sail , bigger and colder of course 😬 Best wishes 👍
Beautiful scenery and footage. What a lovely dog ❤cheers from Denmark
Thanks, and Pip says thanks too 😍
Looks amazing - really have to make the crossing from Norway once my boat is finished. Looks like spectacular sailing!
It is great sailing, although I believe that the sailing in Norway is also great. What a difficult choice you have!
@@tarbertsailing True - Norway is beautiful for sailing and will do much more of it but the whiskey and haggis are just not the same😅
Such a beautiful boat - they just don’t make them with such stunning lines anymore. Fair winds those season☺️
Camper & Nicholson certainly designed some lovely boats, but every boat is a compromise - and to gain comfortable sailing we lose accommodation. Its really amazes us when we go inside a modern 35 footer and see just how much space they have.
@@tarbertsailing tell me about it! Chartered a 35 foot boat in Croatia last summer and really didn’t feel cramped with us and our three teenage daughters. Wouldn’t have the same feeling in my 1980’s 36 footer that I have here in Norway🙈
Brings back distant memories for this old guy, great content and balance, Pip has you well under control cheers
So glad you enjoyed it, and yes, Pip keeps us on our toes 😀
Hi there! Realy enjoy your videos and love your home port of Tarbert. We live in North Wales but spent 9 weeks as liveaboards in July and August 2022 sailing to the Clyde via the Isle of Man and Northern Ireland. We spent over a month in Scotland visiting many locations and managed to take in the Sea Food Festival while in Tarbert over a very wet weekend! We returned home to N.Wales but last year headed north again to the Clyde and relocated Magic Hawk at Holy Loch where she is currently hard standing. We have only scratched the surface of this spectacular cruising ground and plan to take in much more this season. The Kyles of Bute were very memorable for us in 2022 as the weather was shocking with torrential rain and visibility of only 50m so we didn't really see very much! Better luck this year. Keep the videos coming! Best wishes. Mark
Thanks for the kind comments about our videos Mark! When is Magic Hawk back in the water? There is a lifetime of sailing up here, and several attempts may be needed to experience the true beauty of a place - as you have discovered with the Kyles - and for some reason, in recent years at least, it always rains on the seafood festival weekend!
I think realistically, we won’t be able to launch Magic Hawk until the end of April or early May this year. Now our round trip to the boat is 602 miles, we have to plan our maintenance work carefully and hope for good weather too. We were due to travel up on Sunday but with another spell of cold, wet and windy weather blowing in, we’ve decided to postpone for a while. We’ll get there in the end I’m sure. One thing we have already learned about Scotland is that when it rains, it’s at a level above what we are used to in North Wales! But when the sun shines, it takes some beating! Have a great season ahead!
Safe and sound again! I quite understand your concern when she is being lifted....I used to insist on standing under mine when she was lifted. The crane op would say you can't stand there but I would reply yes, I must! Made me feel better, and for sure made him a bit more careful!! Wishing you fair winds, smooth seas, and lots more U Tube episodes. Jon
Always a bit tentative doing the antifouling under the boat when she is in the slings, but know what you mean about wanting the crane driver to take care. We are lucky with Sandy, and he does a great job. Thanks for the good wishes - here's hoping for this season, although we'll get what we get and make the most of it!
It's fine to trust the lift operator. Good to know you absolutely trusted the sling conditions and positions. Astonished the driver or bank didn't give you a well-deserved clip or walk off, which they should have.
@@smokingkippers1173 if the driver felt that a clip was well deserved, I'm sure he would have given one. Having kept the boat in a number of yards, I have never come across anyone who is unhappy with the risk associated with antifouling the underside of a keel. After all, how else are you supposed to do it? Each to their own I suppose.
That’s a cool one 👍
Thanks Alain!
She looks great ! and the boat too ! 😁 We wish you a super season with lots of nice weather… (please) 😂 Zonika 🇩🇰🏴
😆 Thank you - yes some great weather would be nice - we'll see.
happy sailing - this season -love your work
Thank you - glad you are enjoying our videos. We are really looking forward to this season.
Super channel very genuine content, keep this up and you will be one of the best.
Wow, high praise indeed! Thanks very much for the positive feedback, and so glad you are enjoying our videos.
Super filming,very enjoyable.
Thank you - this is a great walk, with spectacular scenery. Glad you enjoyed it.
As a nervous novice based on Holy Loch I'm valuing your opinions on anchorages - I'll add them to my Clyde Cruising notes.
Thanks - glad that our videos are proving useful to you.
Love your vlogs - hope to be there summer of 25 - we are coming in from N. Italy - learning all about W Sotland area - maybe even winter at Tarbert - i notice you have a spade - do they hold well in kelp- as i have heard there is a lot of kelp in Scotland
Thanks. Yes we do have a spade - and one of the reasons is that it is very good at cutting through kelp. Kelp is quite common, especially along the east coast of Jura and in Canna harbour. You can easily find other clear anchorages though, should you wish to avoid the stuff.
@@tarbertsailing thank you for replying - and for your answer - that is great to hear about a spade as we have one - will come and catch up with you and have a wee dram - when we get there. appreciate your help.
Good stuff, my kind of sailing. I do much of the same thing in the fjords of Norway, and drop a video every now and then, check them out if you like. I'll trto locate that subscribe button now. Thanks for shearing. Best regards from Jarle
Thanks for the feedback Jarle, and glad that you enjoyed the video. We would love to explore Norway at some stage, so will definitely check out your videos.
Interesting. We arrived in your part of the world in October. We anchored a few nights in Mull of Kintyre, Arran and Burnt isles but the weather got too chilly so we headed for Largs where our boat is staying for the winter. Looking forward to returning to exploring the highlands… back to wake up Genevieve in early April. See you out there!
Certainly a spring feeling in the air today as we were antifouling our boat ready for a lift in on Saturday. Here's hoping for some decent weather in 2024, and a great season for you on the west coast.
A very nice video. Thank you. In 2025 we have a break of 3 months and will sail from Belgium to Scotland. We are looking forward. Kind regards Edgar
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. You have loads of time to plan your trip for 2025 then. Make sure to get the Clyde Cruising Club sailing directions and the Antares charts as well, to help your planning.
@@tarbertsailing Thanks for the info. I am familiar with the CCC books and will continue to buy the books. Are the Antares charts suitable for OpenCPN?
Yes - the Antares charts work very well with OpenCPN. Its what I use on my laptop and phone.
In preparation for our sailing trip from the Netherlands to Scotland, we are very happy about such well-filmed videos with the very informative reduction. This video is very entertaining and well edited; please keep it up!
So glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for your feedback, and hope you enjoy your trip to Scotland this year.
Lovely video thanks. Would love to see your suggestions for secluded anchorages.
Thanks Chris. As for anchorages, there are so many! My first suggestion would be to buy the Antares charts that cover the whole of the west coast. Many of the anchorages that I might suggest are in there.
Hi guys, first time watch enjoyed it. Well done with the drone. I still struggle to launch when stationary let alone under sail. Love Tarbet how lucky you are to be there.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the video. The handle on the drone is a game changer if you ever plan to fly from the boat, especially underway.
@@tarbertsailing yes that was the first thing I added to mine. Can never understand why the manufacturers don’t make one.
Hey Andrew, I really enjoy your cruising vids...you have one of the worlds best cruising grounds and you seem to enjoy it in a very seamanlike manner. Now you are up and dry for the winter, could you let us have some tech stuff; your boat, her sails, engine performance and issues, and most importantly, how you are getting on with the winter punch list?
Thanks Jon - we love sailing around this part of the world, and although biased as I have been sailing here from childhood, I agree that it is the best😆 We plan to create some videos in the future, such as a boat tour (which will cover all the changes that we have made in our 9 years of ownership) - but possibly one of the first will be a battery upgrade. I have 2 lithium batteries arriving soon! As for the winter job list, we've not got very far at all, and she goes back in the water in around 4 weeks time 🤣
Thank you for posting the memorial in your video. Least we forget!
Quite right! We couldn't miss it out.
Thank you for sharing your family videos and showing us all what the West Coast and Clyde has to offer. Brings back happy memories.
Glad you are enjoying them! If it re-kindles memories, or lets people see things that they have only heard about, then we have done something worthwhile.
Do you have a Facebook page? I was wondering how you blew up your tender? Do you have a dedicated power/battery?
No facebook page I'm afraid. As for inflating our tender, we have a 12v socket in the anchor locker that we connect the pump to. It takes its feed from the windlass power supply, so no issues with power draw there. Hope that helps.
Love the drone handle. Where did it come from please?. Thoroughly enjoying your videos 👍.
Thanks Chris! The drone handle is 3D printed, and bought off eBay I think. It simply goes around the drone body, with a screw at the top, and the handle extending below. It wasn't very expensive, around £10 I think.
Cheers. Thanks for the reply. Have a good weekend. 👍
You're welcome!
