    On your Crown Vic video with supercharger since I can't comment there I'll comment here I absolutely love it amazing workmanship ingenuity The only thing I would do different is I would have turned the scoop around for a rear entry give it a more sleek look or maybe even used a lower scoop and a hood raise in the rear at the hinges just so it's more of a sleeper look but to each his own

I found one video on CZcams with a car like mine with the series 1 and it had the drain plug in the front right behind the alternator, mine does not have a drain plug there I cannot find it anywhere any ideas? I had already bought my oil in syringe for the oil change but I can't find the drain, and it does have a chatter so kind of stressed about it.

    • @makecoolstuff9170

      There are no drain plugs on any of the M90s that I have seen (Tbird or GM). The only way to change the oil is to remove the supercharger and then remove the snout. The noise is likely due to a worn coupling and you will need to remove the snout to replace it. Not a difficult job. Just time consuming. Be careful about not getting the used oil on anything. It stinks.

    I'm planning to put an water intercooled m122 on a 92 lexus sc400. plan to put a 9 to 10 pound pulley on it. So far all the research i've done says it can support about 400 hp or so. I plan to keep the bottom end original because it was made very solidly in the early years of production of the sc400, i do plan to port the heads though. Ultimate goal is 400 hp at the wheels. Thoughts?

    • @makecoolstuff9170
      @makecoolstuff9170 Před 3 lety

      I am not familiar with the sc400 but the M122 can easily support 550 hp (probably 600 hp). I would recommend intercooling and/or increasing piston ring gaps. Head porting is a good idea but not essential. I would spend money on cams before spending money on porting, if cams are available.

Kind of didn't want to take the whole motor out, but if you think it is better to change the rings out as well i'll probably just replace the pistons when i send the heads out for porting. might as well be at peace with that. But if i'm going to rebuild the engine then i might as well go for more than the 400 hp. @@GOLD_FEVER400 at the wheels is 480-500 at the crank which will be quite a jump from the stock 250hp. It will be well worthwhile to be cautious and put in lower compression pistons (best to use forged pistons) Use the appropriate ring gap for boosted engines. The piston manufacturer will likely have recommended values. Its hard to imagine 4V heads not flowing enough (do you have flow values for the sttock heads?) and just keep in mind that head porting often doesnt give the same hp dividends in boosted engines as it does in NA engines. Easier and cheaper just to make sure that the engine is stout enough to handle the boost and increase the boost. Everytime that I have looked at ported heads, the price has dissuaded me. Also, try and find out if your transmission and diff can handle that much boost. Supercharging really increases the low rpm torque and parts can start breaking.

Your CR is gonna be around 10.6ish:1 you won't need the S/C because the displacement will be equal to what you already have. Save your money for supporting mods. I agree with you. You could probably make 450 hp with LT headers, good flowing heads and good street cams and have a much less troublesome engine that fits under the hood. Cost would be comparable to supercharging only because good flowing heads are so expensive for these engines and LT headers would require some fabrication. However as soon as you want more than 450 hp, you will need a power adder.

      I cant recall if I mentioned it before but my garage is in the middle of a big renovation that will need completing before any car work can get started. Wiring, drywall, new concrete floor, lights, insulation, heat and AC.

    Could you boost the octane using one of the newer additives on the market or go to e85? I am not sure about the additives but they claim octane ratings up to 118 and they do seem to have data to back it up.

      Octane additives or E85 will help raise detonation thresholds.

      @@makecoolstuff9170 well I enjoy the videos keep them up! I was reading somewhere that the M122 is roughly about 62% efficient and a vortec centrifugal is about 71%. I get the impression that procharger chart is a bit of marketing or based on older roots variants. Still is is all about keeping that air cool ...

      @@zomie1 Efficiency is a weird way to look at these blowers. Technically speaking, the case of an m90 reaches over 85% efficiency if your comparing the 90cubes per turn to its inlet flow @ rpm. The problem with this the stacking of the air builds more heat with the m90 due to higher rpm needed to turn the blower but the driving losses of even a very overdriven m90 is far less than the m112. Centrifugal can move a larger volume of air than some of these roots design but they require nearly 4 times the blower speed to do so which is a good bit of parasitic losses @ redline and they do not come close to volume of air moved at low blower/engine speeds.
