I spent two years in the US. The thing I missed most about Australia was the bird sounds. I'm a Canberran and, as you know, hearing loud, boisterous birds is part of our way of life. Even the wrens are noisy in their way! Sitting here now I can hear a cacophony of noises and remember how much the "tweet tweet" of northern hemisphere birds would frustrate me! The loudest birds were Woodpeckers (oh my goodness) and Owls at night (again, something I'd not experienced). I agree that birdsong does us good. It's a visceral connection with our surroundings. You don't hear spiders crawling or, necessarily, a kangaroo eating grass nearby, but you ALWAYS hear the birds. It reminds you of where you are. In the darkest time of COVID and Trump (in DC) from 2019 - 2021 I often used to send myself to sleep with a podcast that had audio recorded from all kids of natural environments. Obviously, the one that recorded noise from Point Hut was on high rotation! Such a coincidence to see you here in the very same spot! Don;'t need the podcast anymore and am sooooo glad of it. I don't know if you recall but at some point (30years ago maybe?) David Attenborough was interviewed on. ABC Radio and noted that the birdlife here was more diverse and unique than anywhere in the world. How lucky we are!
❤Wow
😮top info❤
Nice bird! :-)
It's not just a tropical phenomenon; drunk birds can also be readily found in Minnesota and the Yukon during the autumn migrations.
Lovely, informative video thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it! :D
any theories on why the emu survived and the thunderbird didnt? larger clutches? shorter development periods? you would think that when the thunderbirds were gone, the aboriginals would have moved to the next largest source of eggs for easy protein
Very informative. Nicely made. Thanks for sharing....
So nice of you! Glad you liked it! :D
Thanks Neil! These blokes just turned up at my house and at first I thought they were koels. But then noticed the beak wasn’t right for a koel. Your video helped me confirm they were white-winged choughs. One I haven’t seen before, very exciting!
There are three forms in the wild, Red , Yellow and Black head Gouldians. And they were once popular rite across North Australia but now can only be found in a few small pockets of the NT and WA , currently their biggest population can be found in the East Kimberley region of Western Australia, there is no substantial evidence to say their numbers are increasing although recent studies have found the population to be stable!
I bought a Vintage German Hensoldt Wetzlar 6x30 sports dialyt from 1936 , it's rare , incredible how good and sharp the picture is after so many years . The New ones are just to expensive , and the Vintage charme is different .
Your videos are fantastic Neil! I’ve been binge watching over the last couple of days.
Wow, thanks! I appreciate you! :)
I was just given what I am assuming to be some sort of vintage monocular. It's very small & markings say SWIFT HUNTSCOPE model T22 4x,20 in a black case with soft red inner lining. I have Google searched till I have nowhere else to look. I can think of. Is there anyone out there that could give me any info on this. I'm only assuming it is vintage because I can find zero info on it? It looks absolutely brand new but has a very old 'look' to it. The clarity looking through the glass is excellent. Is it possible anyone out there with know anything about this piece?
One of the most beautiful birds ever, I am holding onto the sliver of hope that it may get rediscovered again. And that picture actually sent shivers down my spine, knowing it was probably one of the very last of his species; now nothing more than a memento, a beautiful window to gaze into the past, and a reminder that we can look back on to hopefully protect the vulnerable ones in nature. 💔
They are back in Britain and France.
Great guide. Good speaker. Very informative and interesting. Thank you Neil!! 🙏
g'day Neil, great video, glad I stumbled on it. I am out that way a lot and love every part of it. I am not a massive birder but am mates with a guy name Phil Hansbro who is and we saw a Red Browed Treecreeper down that way many years ago. Such a great part of the world. Heading down to the huts further down the road to record a video tomorrow in fact. Good luck with your channel, I know they are a lot of work. Subscribed ✌🏻
Thanks Neil. I absolutely love that place. Go there as many evenings as I can. Saw spoonbill, quail ? chicks jumping about and this evening an aerial display of some kind of swift or swallows before they disappeared into the reeds. Something amazing every time I go. Along with a few Roos. Helen de Bray
I have one of these calls. It’s more of a fidget that makes noise if you ask me. I can’t say it calls birds at all. If you want to see birds go to the woods and be still the woods with come alive with movement
I just found a vintage pair made in Japan for Sears at a Salvation Army thrift store. I couldn’t believe it when I looked thru them at the store. Without a second thought, I snatched them up at a bargain price. The case is really cool too. It looks like a small ladies purse which is perfect for me. It didn’t come with the manual, but I found it online. Tomorrow I am headed on a camping trip on the Colorado River. I can’t wait to use them. I love the idea of reusing items, and I can’t wait to try them out.
Lovely bird, but not even given a mention in the "Bird Streets" of LA.
Perfect and simple.
Thank you! :)
Just saw a video of one deliberately smashing a car windscreen for no apparent resin
Beautiful gouldian ...hermosos yo tmbien tengo gouldian
which model has a cleaner and more stable image, Nikon 8x20hg ldcf or Nikon 6x15micron?
6x15 micron gets the edge as it focuses all over the view But 8x20 only focus on the centre I suggest Nikon 6x14 Micron
Brilliant. Thanks for the valuable info.
My pleasure! :)
It it fully extinct?

Thank you. I have 2 families living here and I love them dearly. The young are so fluffy and are so loved and protected by all in their group. They have helped warn me of snakes.
so new bird species are possible or subspecies only?
Thank you
The pleasure is mine!
This is a sad state caused by humans & their constant over population😢😢😢
Came here just to find out how to pronounce their name lol
Haha it happens! I hope you have gained something from it.
I came here because my bird farted on my shoulder. Update: she did it a second time! She definitely farted on me!
@ricangumdrops Well, that's definitely a unique reason to visit! 😄 Birds can have some surprising behaviours. Thanks for sharing your amusing experience with your feathered friend! 🐦💨😅
I disagree. As an eye glass wearer, eye relief is critical for me. Anything less than 18mm means I cannot get a clear view. My Pentax 10X43 offer 21mm which is fantastic.
@douglasstemke2444 Thanks for sharing your point of view! It's essential to consider individual preferences and needs when selecting binoculars. Your input is valuable! 🌿

This breaks my heart. Rediscovering a bird once thought to be extinct.. only to become extinct once more, most likely permanently.
@nonothingnever It's truly heartbreaking. The story of the paradise parrot serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of some species and the challenges they face. Conservation efforts are critical, and we must continue to work towards preserving and protecting our precious wildlife. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and concerns. 🦜💔
I agree just bought a pair of antique British Olympic 7x50 binoculars for $4.00 cdn I have looked through a lot if binoculars and they are for sure in my top 4 and maybe number one.
@bobjohnson7207 That's an incredible find! Antique British Olympic binoculars for $4.00 CDN sound like a fantastic deal, and it's wonderful to hear they've become one of your top favourites. Vintage binoculars can offer exceptional quality and unique experiences. Happy birdwatching or whatever you use them for! 🦅

Luv the budgies why do the Yanks call them Parakeet the budgie is in a genus on its own😂
@zonabrown9241 It's interesting how common names for birds can vary! You're absolutely right; the Australian Budgerigar is indeed in a genus of its own. Different regions often have unique names for the same species. Thanks for appreciating these charming birds! 🦜😊🌏
