Very entertaining videos. Good natural delivery without the silly gimmicks which some sailing you tubers try. You have a comfortable style which makes for enjoyable viewing and you spar well together which adds humour without it feeling false. Keep it going and dont change the formula! It works well. We are also sailing in the west Scottish waters and your destinations are familiar to us so that adds further interest. Im curious about one thing though. You said in one video that you were planning to leave your boat in Scotland but when I checked Marine Traffic, Q Dos is currently in North Wales. Have I missed something ? Thanks.
Hi Graham Thanks for the comments and critique, I'm glad you're enjoying the videos. You need do a search for QDOS (without a space between Q and D) on Marine Traffic. When I upgraded my Raymarine kit last year they fitted a new AIS transponder. The engineer misspelt the boat name when he set the system up, hence why Q DOS still shows that the boat is in Conwy.
Time to split the G on one of those pints of Guinness!! 🍻
Seen your channel as I am searching for a Bavaria 36 cruiser as I am looking at one to potentially buy. Really enjoyed your channel and watched a few episodes now. About your charging. Not sure what batteries you have, but if lets say they are 2 batteries of 100 Ah and you have 12.8 volts means 2560 watt. 80% of that is is 2048 watts, and you are missing 512 watts. or 40 Amp hours at 12,8 volts. Your gennie should be able to fill that up in some 20 minutes or less. The reason your meter was just up to 81% is that it could probably note cope with reading the fast charge of the generator but as soon as you unplugged or stopped the charging, it gave the real read of the charged up capacity. I liked the videos I watched, I let it play through the ads to give you a few pence in support, subscribed and will keep watching through what you have procided us. Cheers from Sweden
That said, because I am not a subscriber till today, I see that you can pay for more content, something to consider I suppose. Thanks anyway
Hello boys, my wife and I were in Scotland recently and every time I was looking out to sea or near a marina I was looking out for Qdos! I don't usually comment on here but I do like your videos. My only critique is give us more detail on where you are etc and more info generally, more views of the boat in marina.. all the very best to you both.
Hi James, tanks for watching and for the critique. I will certainly take that onboard (no pun intended) and bring you more location details in future episodes. 👍
You’ve become quite a fun double act. There’s a Routemaster lives in Tobermory too…did you find it?
Thank you 👍. No unfortunately I didn’t find it. Do you know where it is?
Great episode guys!
More stunning scenery, but the weather......... Perhaps it's a good thing or it would be like the Algarve, expensive marinas and restaurants. Fair winds
Looked like you won the sailing as the other one got further away😅. Naw poor Dave having to huff & puff to catch speedy Robin😂. The light house and views were beautiful. Hopefully the weather plays nice & you get a good bit of sailing to your next spot! Thanks for the chuckles and banter.😊
great work guys
Climb Kilimanjaro? Every time I climb my stairs feels like I am these days.
On the way to Loch Sunart, you should check out Loch na Droma Buidhe colloquially known as Loch Drambuie or Loch Drumbuie. Maybe you did/have. If not when entering don't turn to starboard too early as there's a rock just below the surface.
Thanks for the tip. Spoiler alert - that’s exactly where we end up in the next episode. 🤣👍 stunning place.
you guys found the 'Mish' best pub on Mull , weekends and west highland yacht week are fabulous, great bands food and singsongs.Try the chippy van on the harbour its the biz....fair winds...
Hi Dave. Yes it is a lovely pub with good Guinness, I must go back when they have a live band on. Oh and I’ll try chippy van next time too. 👍
You two sure seem to have become great sailing buddies! Enjoy all your banter! Dave, do you still work or have you retired in order to sail more?
Thanks for watching, glad you are enjoying the banter. I’m currently in-between jobs at the moment. 👍
looks amazing, I must get up to the Scottish west coast...
Awesome Video
Lovely video. What do you use the block that's shackeled to your anchor roller for?
Thank you 👍 glad you enjoyed the video. I have no idea what that shackle is for, it was on the boat when I purchased it. I think its for the cruising chute which I have never flown.
TO MUCH TALKING GET TO THE INSTAL !!
I wish I was in a canal, hope to get up there nexy year. I am currently waiting for a calmish day to sail back to wales from port st Mary IOM. Wind is over 30mph here, not good.
That's not good, I seem to have spent far too much time this year waiting for the right wind! I hope you managed to get back safely? ⛵️
Did this run in reverse a few months back, the tidal flow after coming through Bardsey Sound was strongly pushing us towards the rocks, did not like the idea of an engine failure there!
Well Dave it's great to see your sailing confidence coming through, all of these trips are a blast to watch. If I had to guess I'd have to say the boat in front of you in the locks with the HOME RUN banner was full of Americans 😂. Keep the videos coming, stay safe and enjoy the waves... CHEERS
Thanks David, glad you're enjoying the videos 👍. Yep totally agree, I think sailing is 90% confidence and as with everything, the more you do it, the more confident you become. Robin has been a big factor in helping me gain my confidence over the past couple of years, I've learnt a lot from him. The family in the yacht were actually British.
Great idea, I hope to see you .
Great video as usual. Still hard to beat the lovely scenery.
Scotland Guinness ? Wrong country great episode as usual.
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it 👍 Very true but Scotland isn't that far from Ireland and I don't like whisky. 🍺
Good video Dave, as someone else said the first 2 boats weren't quite halberg rassys - wouldn't we all like to be given a HR though 😂. Enjoying this series, wondered if there had been any boat upgrades recently?
Thanks Jack, I must to pay more attention in marinas. No recent upgrades since installing Starlink.
The first two were Malos, not HRs!! As a Malo 38 owner, i woukd say they are better! Cheers. James
Lovely to see you, chaps!
Awesome Video
Thank you Christopher. Glad you still enjoy the videos. 👍
Great plan . The 6 hr drive is not a big deal , For the sailing you will get. i was 4.5 hr away from home to Largs I will Look Out For You , Just Joined your Channel and its a Breath of Fresh air to Watch after all the other you tube stuff keep it up
Thank you, so glad you are enjoying the content. 👍
Why am I not surprised! Seeing all that and so much more to come it’s a no brainer. Crack it all while you’re ‘young’ and fit. Tootle about in later years when the bones start to ache! 6 hour drive - pah! Look what’s there when you arrive. Happy sailing!
Thanks Denis. Not sure I'm still young and fit but I'll give it a good go 🤣
Golden retrievers are the dumbest of all the dog breeds, I like how you lot got to look down in the ship, you could’ve put the camera in so we could see, even the dogs got to look, terrible video.
Great video David and thank you for sharing. Comforting to see that you're like me when single handing; just leave the fenders to do what fenders do. Hahaha. That said, I am looking at some sort of bottom clip solution. As my missus keeps reminding me about all jobs that I do; "they'll be no finesse, but it'll get the job done". All the best Justin
Thank you Justin, I'm glad I'm not the only lazy sailor out there 🤣
Cant wait. Love Scotland
Thank you Martin. 👍
Good idea
Thank you 👍
Did you consider basing yourself on the Clyde near Glasgow for the winter my thinking is the journey alone from Glasgow to Oban is Two and a half hours and the car your journey to Oban is likely to be via the grand city of Glasgow if not right through the middle of it. There are myriads of nooks and crannies to explore around the relatively sheltered waters of the Clyde and should a settled period during the winter present itself the West Coast is a short journey through the Crinan. Looking forward to your adventures, I'm biased but I think the west coast of Scotland has some of the best cruising grounds in the world although probably not if you factor in bikinis and cocktails. 🤪
Yeah I did consider leaving the boat in a marina in the Clyde area as they are much closer to home in terms of journey time as the bulk of the journey would have been on a motorway. But the thing for me was I've done the Bute, Arran and the locks off the Clyde for the past 2 summers and so I wanted somewhere new. Oban is fairly central and a good base for the Small Isles and perhaps ever further north up to Skye and Lewis. Although I suspect they will have to wait until the summer. 👍
@@sailingmadness Not to mention that the drive from Glasgow to Oban has beautiful views although I am not a fan of driving the road past Loch Lomond, especially in winter.
awesome
Thats great, chaps! Well done
Don't forget to fix some rodent barriers to the mooring lines, you won't be wanting an infestation even if only Mice.
Great video, looking to do the same myself.
Go for it! ⛵️
Interesting move. I owned a boat once but the only reason I owned it was because I lived 10 minutes from where it was moored and I would go to the boat after work and at weekends and so I knew that when I was going on a trip - everything had been made ready very conveniently beforehand. I can’t even begin to imagine a six hour (12-hour return) drive to get to the boat. I think I’d rather move to Scotland… oh… is that the next step?
It is going to take some getting used to. I'll let you now how I get on.
Buy another boat for home lol
Quite like the dark dingy bar. Think you have to expect to pay a dear price for a pint at the edge of the world. Yes it’s odd but far better than no beer
wise move Dave, we had this conversation :) cant wait to see future videos!! be up there my self in a couple of years with my new tub
Cheers Will, remember if you need a hand with anything, or need crew for a day sail give me a shout. 👍⛵️
@@sailingmadness cheers Dave!!
That 6 hour drive may become a pain after a while. I was commuting 6 hours to south wales and after the 4th run said never doing that again. Only upside it the drive north has less traffic. Lived in Oban for a year, great sailing ground’s and some cracking winter days. 👍
Thank you, yep I'm not looking forward to driving 6hrs to boat, I just hope the winter sailing in Scotland more than makes up for it.
Nice Dave 👌🏻 Where did you get the fixings for your Bimini mount solar panels please?
Those fixing on the Bimini are just super strong neodymium magnets.
Loving the beautiful view's as you sail. Best part! I don't get sea sick😅.😊 The next mornings view was breath taking❤.
Glad you enjoyed it thank you 👍
What a stunning sight to wake up to!
