From Fall 2010 to Spring 2011 - Two runs of Kryssstal's (Human Element Bonus Features)
The question of the legitimacy of the runs is less important in this context - here we're using them as tools to help us continue our journey in the history of the run. And there's no question that there is a huge stride made in the time period presented here. Some of that has to do with integration and application of ideas from the two TASes posted yesterday. But really what we're seeing here is a major turning point for the modern game.
I should note that the dates are somewhat vague and approximate. But the main point, as with the two TASes, we're seeing around a 4 minute time difference. But this time, the cut occurs over the span of months, not years.
For a future video I might add Wak's run into the mix - they are three runs that represent a good snapshot of the birth of the modern game.

THE REMIX. Some folks earlier in the thread were thinking that it might be cool if this wonderful video were intercut with some of the relevant bits of Day9 daily #100, and I thought it might be a fun thing to take a stab at, particularly after I had some trouble remembering some of Day's descriptions of WCG 2005. Obviously this is not meant as a replacement or improvement on the original video...
How am I just seeing this now?! I've watched Day9's "my life of starcraft" twice in the last 13 years but never have seen this behind the scenes footage. You can see Artosis still salty AF after a lose but more conservative and less jaded here. The hair styles, dyed blue hair and frost tipped I remember those phases, there was also the gelled up cowlick look as well. Good times. Cable internet was becoming a standard and flip phones were becoming a thing. I feel blessed to grow up in that rare time where technology was just taking off. Now a days everything is completely fucked and people are so sensitive, i feel like the whole "everybody get's a medal" point in time was the begining of the end.

i do, i got a little spooked by all the billy mitchell lawsuits lol but ill put them up. i dont think ill be in the speedrun video business anymore but i am a big fan of yours!

the other reason i gave up on the alttp side of things, i mean, there are a lot of reasons but despite the framing of the video i wasnt really into the drama thing, i was just wanted to make a neat speedrun history video like you, and the drama sort of overtook it. it ended up feeling not like "me" if you know what i mean. anyway best of luck!
@@Zaswarley Oh wow, thank you! I was just asking for them because I remember admiring the way you edited them but couldn't find them anymore. I don't blame you for being frightened by Billy's lawsuits and totally understand if you don't want them public because of that, but I'm glad they still exist in some form. Thanks again!

I've watched this video a few times in the last year and it hits me with feels every time.
I keep coming back to this because this is such a great beautiful story, but its also a major turning point in the entire scene with tasteless and artosis starting casting careers, and propelling starcraft to be the prime esports example and basically making the entire scene of esports from nothing

Enjoy the style. Very later-Adam Curtis-esque approach (but looser). Very nice of use of music in the same vain. Not incredibly informative, could be more details, but it would contest a bit with the style. I did enjoy how personable it was especially. Kind of shows just how much emotional weight people put on things like this when they've devoted so much effort to what they are attempting.

I really disliked the artsy way of delivering the story and subject, that was irritating and confusing.Maybe it's cool for people who already keep up with the scene but i'm just a guy interested in the story of cheating in speedruns and would have enjoyed more if it were shorter and concise.

I really loved the incorporation of DMD's Alttp tutorial. I knew this game was technical, but holy cow, there are so many optimizations that a casual viewer like me has no clue about. I have even more respect for the top runners of this game now. Good shit.

it's good quality but I think the planning and how you laid things out could've been better, I'm literally getting to 'Part 1' of the video after a 7 minute intro? The first thing they teach you about writing is that the first thing you need to do is hook your audience, and I'm not particularly feeling that with this 7 minute intro before I even get to see anything about Krystal or her cheated runs.
you would have a point if the entire video was supposed to be solely about krystal, but it's not.

Based off of the trailers, I went into this expecting a comprehensive, yet fairly straightforward analysis of the krysssstal/TR/BM scandals - what I got instead was unorthodox, but still incredibly impressive and engaging. To avoid repeating Brain-washed's analysis verbatim, I'll just add that the sheer volume of clips, posts, and excerpts you had to have gone through to assemble this is truly mind-boggling, yet this still maintained a fairly natural flow and narrative through-out - kudos to you on the masterful editing. As is the nature of hyper-stylized and frenetic editing, it was a little difficult to follow in parts on first viewing and some of the transitions between audio clips seemed a tiny bit messy, but that kind of comes with the territory. On the whole, this was an exceptional watch, and I eagerly await the later parts whenever they come - keep up the excellent work :)
Well this... Truly unique. Your editing presents as more of a glimpse into a brain processing hundreds of thoughts. The It's like you're creating emotion rather than trying to convey one; the way you present the hard hitting texts of that show a community divided. They hit in a way that you know what they're saying without even reading them. They way you lace people taking about the topics that are flashing by holds everything together and keeps the pace feeling natural despite the mess of images. I don't know what to say, this is just amazing.
