I also feel like the upper canine is grinding the lower canine causing it to be slightly attrited. Is it normal to not be able to open your mouth? And can movement happens when all the teeth are locked in biting position? Thank you

    Hi, I have vertical elastics (upper canine, lower canine and premolar), but they are 5/16", is that normal?? I honestly don't feel them unless I open my mouth, they seem loose. First elastics I'm wearing on my treatment and I have a thick wire (at 1 year 4 months of treatment btw)

    • @BracesGuide
      @BracesGuide Před 6 měsíci

      Your orthodontist makes the recommendation on the type of elastic, so you can ask them about this at your next appointment. It doesn’t take a lot of force to move teeth, also, the length of time you wear the elastics has a greater effect than a stronger force. I would suggest following the orthodontists instructions on the type and time needed to wear until you can ask them about it.

    I am trying to correct my midline and my Ortho is only asking me to wear one rubber band on each side but I dnt that will shift my front teeth since the rubber band is not on that teeth. Can I possibly put rubber bands on more teeth then recommended to move all teeth at once as long as it’s going the same direction? Or is the purpose of wearing band on the opposite teeth gonna move all teeth for me?

    • @BracesGuide
      @BracesGuide Před 8 měsíci

      One rubber band on each side still has the effect of moving all the teeth, not just the ones the rubber band is connected to. So, I would suggest you still follow your orthodontists suggestion. At your next visit, you can confirm how and why you are wearing them this way with your orthodontist.

    • @BracesGuide
      @BracesGuide Před 2 lety

      Usually orthodontists recommend changing them because over time, the elastics can stretch out and become less effective. So, changing them a couple times a day can help to make sure the forces stay active. Best thing would be to ask your orthodontist how often to change for your specific situation.

    I just got mine in yesterday, and it's extremely painful. It's not quite as bad as the pain from removing my wisdom teeth was, but it's extremely uncomfortable and though I only have four in on the bottom, my entire mouth feels sore and it's painful to bite. My dad is taking me to an amusement park tomorrow, and I'm afraid I'm going to be in pain the entire time. Is it likely that I can handle it? I've taken some Tylenol and it's working alright, but I doubt it'll last the entire day.

      I’ve heard from patients that the pain from separators can sometimes be worse than the braces, so it’s not that unusual. The good news is that it usually only last a few days and gets better. Pain medication helps too, so use the recommendation from your orthodontist to help with the pain.

      Hello, thanks for your comment. Elastics tend to just move teeth, there is no skeletal or jaw effects, just dental movement. Unfortunately I am unable to give you advise on this specific situation. It would be best if you brought up your concerns with your orthodontist and ask them what their plan is for your treatment.

      It’s unlikely to be a major problem but ideally you should follow their instructions and let them know what happened.
