So, I Made a Magic System for My Fallout Inspired Fantasy World
One of the magic systems behind my worldbuilding projects, this video goes over how the world of Epocrion'Eth interprets magic from the perspective of their slightly more advanced societies. I already have a vision for how all of this would look using the D&D 5e system, so I'll just be going with that moving forward. And potentially later on, I might adapt the concepts to include other systems!

Hey guys, today we lay the groundwork for our post-apocalyptic fantasy world Epocrion! One of the key components of creating a world that you plan on putting through the fantasy blender, is that you have to have a very solid foundation so you can destroy it. Are these visual representations of the arcanum visible to the naked eye in world? Or perhaps they're only visible to those who have an exceptional arcane soul? I've always loved the idea of a natural/raw form for magic and the way it is depicted. I also just like the swoopy lines you painted lol
They are visible only when ones Arcane Soul is particularly potent. It's also visible at the height of casting very powerful magic and things of the like for a brief period of time. I was considering creating a spell that allows you to visually see someone else's Arcane Soul and in essence pin them as a caster or not based on its refinement.
Almost ALL d&d worlds are post-apocalypse. Where do people think dungeons and ruins come from?
My friend and I are dabbling world building. One creates the world, its gods, and magic system, and the other fills it with flora, fauna, and cultures found there. I really like your Veiled Cities, and the Veil Lords. They’re like the walking city my friend made as a way for his people to survive our own world’s apocalypse.
I like it.
What you are describing is common in the battle shonen genre like Naruto, Dragon Ball and One Piece. It's also becoming more prevalent in the burgeoning cultivation fantasy and progression fantasy subgenres. There's a scene in one book in the progression fantasy series Arcane Ascension for example where the MC laments that his use of mind magic means his cognitive abilities will eventually artificially surpass that of his sister to the point that he will eventually be able to beat her in their fictional chess-like boardgame.
I wrote a magic system for a novel i was/ am working on. It was based on different civilisations having their own forms of independent magic, but as the ages past what those magical systems were became obscured or misinterpreted. So the Northern kingdoms didnt have wizards or mages, but priests, because they believed in a sort of holy magical power from their god. But in actuality, their magic was just compulsion. So thier priests were kinda deluding themselves inti thinking all that religious fervent was the cause when it was the priests themselves. . The guys in the deserts in the far east, everyone originally thinks their magical sense is like information transfer. But really their magic was summoning, unfortunately thousands of years ago, they started summoning spirits from another universe. And binding them in people. Those spirits eventually became "demons" body snatchers who when you kill them, they just transfer their consciousness to the next in line. In the south the jungle peoples have the ability to influence nature. Well, animals, and have used it for selective breeding for years. Now they ride giant spiders that spin glass threads. And the central guys believe they have no magic of their own. So they're creating one. Basically taking the fundamentals and building technology to either simulate or take advantage of that. But a later reveal is gonna be that they did originally have a magical system. And have somewhat slowly been rediscovering it just in ways it was never supposed to be used. Their system is necromantic. But instead of like sticking a soul in a dead body to reanimate it. Theyve been taking living people and sticking nature spirits into them in the same process. To make soldiers strong enough to go toe to toe with people who can wield magic. Its basically a breakdown of why military escalation is a bad idea.
You are stunningly slow in double speed. Really get to the point, any point!

I love this magic system I would love to use it in my game
Maybe one day you will! I plan on probably releasing the extensive write up in the future so the system can be of service to other people.
Love the new pngtuber design! The swaying is very nice ❤ (I do think the hop is very jerky and disorientating though, but that's just my opinion on it)
I was testing the hop, I'll probably not be using it going forward but it was fun getting to see him in action! Glad you like him c:
@@ZagreusWinters a hop is pretty normal for pngtubers! I just thought maybe less intensity would be better for my eyeballs and adhd brain 😂👍 looking forward to your future work!
Personally if i were ever in a council like that i would definitely have asked "What of the millions of innocents who had no choice but to partake in this lest they die? Do you think it fair to smite a sentient creature who was never taught how to preserve it's paradize? Is one expected to be born knowing that?"
🤣👌 Yeah ok...
I'd love to have a Tabletop RPG based on this concepts! Your lore is phenomenol. I want to hear more!
Thank you c: I'll be tailoring the world to fit the D&D 5e system since that's what I'm most familiar with!
this is really well done :) not to wonder but, would you provide a map in the next vid
I released part 2 actually, over on my channel! It includes the map making process and the like.
@@ZagreusWinters my b, didnt see this was 2 weeks old :)
This is just a thought. In normal dnd lore, teflings are victimized by racism due to being related to fiends. Well, Assamar being related to celestials Get treated relatively well. But in this setting, that should be reversed, given that Angels basically cause The apocalypse and after the apocalypse happens. The roles are flipped Assamar and are the ones being victimized by racism. Being seen as nothing more than saboteurs who seek to destroy the remaining safe havens of humanity From within and are likely killed on sight or thrown behind bars as soon as they are found. Well Teflings Are treated Pretty much equally to most of the other human hybrid species like half elves or half orks after the apocalypse event. But would have an easier time gaining leadership positions due to their natural charisma. And would pretty easily become important figures in a community due to their longer lifespans. .
This is sick please make more videos about the world.
I have! The newest video is up right now c:
This is so inspirational i love hearing this and it makes me want to make my own magic system
wonderful video, love the ideas and would love to play in your world. hope you don't mind if i inspire myself with this ;) keep it up

I love this world. While I had no doubt it would be fleshed out, I was suprised by just how much you did. Amazing job and I cannot wait to hear more in the future!
I really like this idea, can I recommend looking into the shadowbringers arc of FFXIV? it has a similar premise and the brightscorched remind me of the sineaters. Shadowbringers is by far my favorite story from ffxiv and i think you'd like it as well.
Magitech fantasy world with low orbit spherical dwellings that have become havens from the hostile planet below and around. Gives me Final Fantasy XIII and Destiny vibes
Instead of darkness this time the light is a posion
Wow, you've built such a cool world! I love how you thought through every aspect, from the magical leylines to the languages. NOW BLOW IT UP
Ooooo. Hell yeah dude! Love how your magic interacts with the world. That concept is one of my favorite to play with when designing my maps.
Just to add to your linguistic game, especially with renaming light to lux. When naming things I like to think as the people who speak that language, (how different languages treat foreign words like in English the country is Hungary but for the native speakers it's Magyarország, completely different) so some names change when a different culture handles them. Another point is I like to think about language origins (my linguistics degree comes in handy finally) so in your case a Latin or Romance based language was the result of hundreds of years of synchronism, Latin is less natural and more constructed to include the peoples of an empire born out of the Hellenistic culture. It's only my train of thought when dealing with fantasy languages but when I hear a Latin-like word instead of a very descriptive, very natural name like Lightblight it makes me think that it's was only named that to sound cool. (Lots of YA writers do this) TLDR: I think people would name a defining cultural pillar something in their own language. That being said I really like how you explained the middle-to-high context communication of it with parallels to fallout's rads
Relatable, i’ve been doing the same. Although it’s a bit after the actual event.
Speed-mapping as you discuss the locations is so rad
Something I personally would do is use ‘lightblight’ as a more salt of the Earth version of ‘luxencurse’ so people of a higher status would use luxe curse and lower status would use lightblight, but both would use lux as a shortened version of the term. That’s just me, and you’ve earned a subscriber
You should work with the People that create dungeons and dragons
Ya know a song of ice and fire is actually set in a post apocalyptic world.
I love this setting
I love how its post apocalyptic but not too cynical
I've had a fantasy post apocalypse deathgrip for a while, too, but I specifically want to do something inspired by S.T.A.L.K.E.R.. Knave's inventory and magic system made me think of Artifacts. An adventuring party making a pilgrimage to the Zone to collect artifacts for wealthy buyers works WAY too well as a TTRPG adventure.
looks super cool id love to hear or read more stories from the world
Could halfbreed humans have survived the cleansing with minimus brightscorching? After many generations I would expect some of their descendants to have more human characteristics than the original survivors, although some of them would present strange magical caracteristics due to the light altering their ancestors.
My personal hunch with how it would affect The hybrids.. Most of the halfbreed Humans would have varying amounts of resistance to it. Asmar would be basically immune to most of the negative effects Being half angel and all. And It would affect teflings. more severely than normal humans Being part Fiend and all
I dig it

Honestly, as much as this was meant to be Fallout-inspired, there is a Game System that exists that encompasses this idea almost to a tee called 'The Forbidden Lands'. I HIGHLY recommend everyone check it out, but what makes a world like this so interesting is 'Hex-Crawl' exploration. Seriously D&D and Daggerheart just won't make a world like this shine as bright as it could! 🙇🙇
you needn't to incorporate this but i wanted to say - arcana borealis is a misnomer! the borealis part means of the north: irl we have aurora borealis and aurora australis. Thus aurora arcanis would be suitable once again, it's your world, your choice. Really cool, i love the brightscorched! hoping to hear more of Epocrion'Eth :D
that sounds cool
This is Fire!!!
What.. you mean this isn’t a dnd campaign conceptualization? I just assumed with the world building and ideas, but yeah I suppose it could be anything as long as it takes place in the world.
Dark sun from DnD has some good shit
Seconding. Love that setting.
Reminiscent of Dark souls, sounds exciting ❤
Duuuuuude this would go so hard as a DnD campaign
Post-apocalyptic fantasy? You should read the comic series Coda! I think you’ll love it
Post Apocalyptic Fantasy, Ashes of Creation
Is the message "Don't do anything to be killed by god" Or "be lucky enough to be born knowing right from wrong"?
People that can't speak shouldn't make content
The 90s RPG Earthdawn has some Fallout-esque elements in its worldbuilding. It too is a post-apocalyptic Fantasy setting. Though its apocalypse was one of Lovecraftian alien monsters that ravaged the world while its peoples hid in underground refuges. It was a pretty good twist on some of the standard D&D tropes, and had a very rich library of lore. I think there's a 4th Ed out now, but I haven't checked it out.
And it is a prequel to Shadworun ;)
Earthdawn's ideas about dungeons are the most valuable bit of that setting. Lets you get extremely wacky about it and stop worrying about WHY there's a funhouse dungeon.
