    You did a nice job and I like your style. you are better than most coach's I have seen on youtube. But, you said a coach's job is not to give advice. I disagree. There should be a balance between asking questions and providing insight and advice. Believe me, executives and ICF coaching are misaligned in expectations. Executives need a thought partner to discuss issues in confidence. Being a thought partner requires credibility, someone who has "been there and done that" as a manager. If anyone simply asked me questions without balancing with "advice" or insight, I would end the session and find a new coach. Executives don't have the time for multiple coaching sessions where it is all about the questions. Advice can also take the form of "here is a question you can ask."

    • @Nikkiiiiiiiiii
      @Nikkiiiiiiiiii Před 4 měsíci

      Great points @mfandrew It's equivalent to being a licensed as a therapist. Giving advice puts therapists at risk because it makes them accountable and liable for the decisions made by the client. Therefore, if I give you instructions or suggest a course of action and you follow it, it may or may not work. And I'm going to be the one to take the blame! You'll be saying to yourself, deep down, "This guy is a quack!" As a result, it is my responsibility as a therapist to help you find the answer on your own. The keys to finding the solutions are inside everyone of us; all we need are excellent trainers, coaches and mentors to help us find them.

    • @mfandrew
      @mfandrew Před 4 měsíci

      @@Nikkiiiiiiiiii as you are a therapist I completely agree with you . Executive coaches are not therapists but they should be a credible thought partner in confidence with executives. That’s what executives expect.

    • @Nikkiiiiiiiiii
      @Nikkiiiiiiiiii Před 4 měsíci

      @@mfandrew Oh you get no arguments from me MFANDREW. I was just merely suggesting that it's a thin line that we must walk as so that we don't directly tell the client what to do. They'll never learn if our thought partnering turns into advice. Great Points and i surely appreciate your intelligence and insight in this matter.

    • @JoeyDrylvlup
      @JoeyDrylvlup Před 14 dny

      @@Nikkiiiiiiiiii The International Coach Federation (ICF) emphasizes that coaching is about facilitating a client's self-discovery and empowerment rather than giving direct advice. Coaches are encouraged to ask powerful questions, listen deeply, and help clients find their own solutions. This approach is clearly empowering but limited at times. I believe incorporating a variety of coaching disciplines allows the Coach to better adapt to the client's needs. Thats what I do :) Balancing listening and giving advice can enhance coaching effectiveness. By ensuring advice is ethical, contextual, and empowering, you can support clients in making informed decisions without undermining their autonomy or assuming undue liability. A coach could ensure that any advice given is contextual, tailored to the client's unique situation, and presented as an option rather than a directive. Frame advice in a way that empowers clients to make informed decisions, maintaining their agency and responsibility.

    Top notch ! Super insightful 🎯 Sir what would be the best way to tackle my situation - i am a Hvac design engineer in Aec construction industry after completing my internship in 2019 i was out of work due to family reasons helping mom at home. So how to get a job now after a big career gap of 4 yrs ? Does being too honest work or any others ways of directly cold call or cold email work instead of posting resumes on various job sites.. how should i develop self belief & conquer the challenges in these testing times.. would any book top recommendations help me also about this situation...

    • @RussOuellette
      @RussOuellette Před 6 měsíci

      The big question here really is how to conquer your self beliefs about your situation. I would suggest you reflect on why you where out. You were taking care of family, and I can’t think of any bigger or better reason to be out of the “traditional” workforce. I would argue that you were not out of the workforce, you were in the workforce of taking care of your family. See what I mean? Unfortunately, hiring managers and those that do the recruiting try to minimize their risk, so they pass on people with job gaps, even though that is unfair. Therefore, to conquer yourself beliefs, replace the feeling on “having a gap” with “I was doing the most and best thing I could do under the circumstance, and preserved my value of family when needed”. Once you accept that, be proud of it. Now, how to approach this with potential employers? You asked the question about honesty. The answer is yes, we should always be honest. If this is an obstacle for hiring folks, which in some cases it will be, I think the best approach would be to continue to do the traditional activities, like sending resumes with a cover letter that openly mentions the reason for the gap. Calls can also be useful. From my perspective, the best approach is to network yourself, demonstrating you are back and in the game as well as allowing people to see, talk and get a sense of a real person. There is no substitute for real live conversation. Attend industry conferences, events, trainings … meet real people where they get a sense of your seriousness, commitment and situation. You should be proud that you took care of family when you needed to.

    For tech jobs/programming, that "think about what your doing with your life" is really not much a issue. I can still be passionate about, do a lot of research on the subject, contribute to open source/ personal projects and yet deliver only what I was contracted to do. I, as a rational person, will not engage in overwork if that will not be returned to me in measurable ways (paycheck, off time and benefits). That is common sense.

    The quiet quitter does not get promoted in the administration and/or CEO, Director, etc. In fact the quiet quitter might have less raises and certainly lower raises and are first on the chopping block during layoffs! The hard and smart worker who brings value to her/his boss and company gets the good raises and has first pick for that promotion opportunity.

  • @thedozeroperatorman

    I hear ya. For more than a year we had to work 12 to 18 hours a day 7 days a week. Many quit here and there. No family time. All of us had illegal vehicles because we couldn't have time to get an inspection. I got an abscess tooth because I couldn't get to a dentist. We had to cut our yards at night which really upset neighbors. I'm a heavy equipment operator, I mine. Men were exhausted, accidents started happening. MSHA inspectors were showing up. Finally we went to our foreman and superintendent. We hashed it out. Now we have our weekends off unless there is an emergency. We do 11 hours a day except for Friday we work 9 hours on Friday. We are producing 3 times more than we did working 7 days a week. Having something to work towards like a free weekend boosted morale. If you can't talk to a boss because they don't want to hear it, find another job. That boss isn't worth working for.

There's no working in the background. Entrepreneurs are invested in the company and are allowed and incentivised to put in more time, salary men (and women) are only bound by contract as incentive. Ofc you may WISH for them to designate more of their time to the company but there's NO obligation for it.
