    Perfect but you do not take into consideration the cost of VDI, Software Licensing between Microsoft and many other is very high and it is per year per user. Hardware cost to respond to those VDI client is very high in Server cost. Even the cheapest terminal with screen and keyboard cost would be similar to a Laptop. Most applications are web based that does not requires a Windows desktop to work. Electricity cost on a big server farm for VDI is also very high.

      @morphkaian Před měsícem

      @@TechEnthusiastIncit's not dead, Mist as you mentioned is the goal. It would be terrible to alienate either Aruba or Juniper fans. It takes years for changes to be made to phase out products if that ever happens.

    • @TechEnthusiastInc
      @TechEnthusiastInc Před měsícem

      Totally agree. Both, Aruba and Juniper have their dedicated fan bases and it is going to be the most difficult task for HPE to execute the merger in a way that both continue to be happy. Having said that, there were a lot of sceptics about the HPE-Aruba merger too but HPE managed to do stellar job with that - one of the great success stories in the industry. But it will be a few notches more difficult this time. The easiest would be to let both of them continue to live their own lives (just add 'a HPE company' under each logo) but that's not what's going to happen, that is not what HPE spent $14B on. It is clear that HPE wants to integrate Mist into everything as soon as at all possible. And I want to see that too! Mist is awesome tech. But doing that will complicate the dynamics of the three companies. Finally, I am certain that the plans to integrate Mist into HPE and Aruba portfolios are already far. I would not be surprised...let me rephrase that...I am _expecting_ that at the time they announce closing of the deal, they will also announce big news about that integration.

    Is it possible to achieve #1(As hyperconverged as possible) and #2 (True appliance) at the same time? and what would be a typicall customer use case for choosing #1 vs #2? and could you also explain how 50TB becomes only 1 read TB in the hyperconverged disk? Sry if it's a stupid question !

    • @TechEnthusiastInc
      @TechEnthusiastInc Před 3 měsíci

      Hi Li! Thanks for the good questions. Absolutely it is possible to achieve #1 and #2 at the same time. Actually, if you think about it, they go pretty much hand in hand. The more components and aspects of data center infrastructure you converge, the more difficult it becomes to bolt them together. It will be much easier to converge components if you have total control of the R&D, engineering and support. And to your second question, if you decide to go for HCI, I don't see any reason not to try to have both #1 and #2 always, with every case. Since if you take it to halfway and use some HCI solution that is not "all the way HCI", you will not get the full benefits of HCI. So, maybe better to consider traditional 3-tier approach at that point? That 50 to 1 terabyte is a result of some HCI solutions' data reduction algorithms like compression and deduplication. No data is lost, it is just compressed and duplicates removed. it is highly dependent on the type of data you are storing. Some data can not be reduced much, maybe some 4:1, while some data can be heavily reduced, maybe 200:1 or more. These techniques are not exclusive to HCI though, many storage arrays have similar features.

      I refuse to accept that. Time and again technology has proved impossible possible and moreover, brought us solutions we couldn't even think about before. So, not only I think it is possible but probable that we will get to a point where growth will be sustainable using the correct technology. But what we need more is the help of decision makers. Both, political and business entities need to be working together on this, worldwide. Technology can't help if we don't let it.

    Hello Sir, I hope this message finds you well, and I want to express my gratitude for the insightful video you shared. It's truly appreciated. May you continue to be blessed in your endeavors. I have a question regarding your discussion on Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI). In an HCI environment, do we virtualize the memory and servers in the same way we do in traditional virtualization practices, or are these components simply compartmentalized into separate physical units within a different space? Thank you for clarifying this for me. Best regards,

    • @TechEnthusiastInc
      @TechEnthusiastInc Před 5 měsíci

      Hi Murtadha! Thanks for the feedback. Glad to have you around! Technically HCI is very comparable, even identical, to what hypervisors do. For example, you can create a technical HCI solution only with VMware software, namely vSphere, vSAN and VNX. Actually VMware offers a HCI software stack to be use with OEM server vendors (like Dell, HPE and Lenovo) in order to offer complete VMware HCI solutions. They call these vSAN ReadyNodes. Where the difference to just server/storage virtualization come from is the way the whole hardware/software stack is managed and how warranty+support work. A true HCI solution is managed with a single user interface - you don't have to manage server, storage and networking separately from their own separate UIs. Also, the whole HCI node is under the same warranty and support contract. No need to call server, storage, network and software vendors separately in case of an issue. Hope this helps.

    This sounds very cool, but if the datacenter experiences outage then the whole workforce would be sitting idle doing nothing!

      Very true but it's the same story with everything that's centralised. That's why you should never trust just one data centre. When designing these kinds of solutions, you should always have a secondary site and preferably a tertiary one or some other plan for outages and failures.

      Yes, we could build redundancy for sure but redundancy doesn’t work always. I know this because I have experience of datacenters. For eg. take critical services like whatsapp, youtube, instagram etc. Companies like Facebook spend millions building redundancy and resiliency but still outages happen. My point is, that in case of VDI the result of outage of datacenter services is very severe where everyone stops working. I think there may be specific use cases for VDI but those success stories should be documented that VDI made difference for a certain use case including outages which had minimal impact on business.

      Outages happen in all IT systems, large and small, centralised and distributed. Nothing is 100.0%. It is IT's responsibility to take the appropriate and balanced measures between usability, security and availability. Now, VDI/EUC can improve overall usability, security and availability in many cases. As an example of this, the Netherlands Cancer Institute that I mentioned in the video. It is just one of many VDI success stories. On the other hand, with some other cases VDI might be a terrible option. There is no one solution to rule them all. All I wanted to do with this video is increase awareness of VDI since to my experience, many people don't necessarily realise that VDI might be a viable solution for them.
