Copy of South African Industrial Steam 1990 Vryheid Colliery & Coke works
A few scenes recorded in 1990 at Vryheid 'Coronation Colliery' in South Africa. Most of the internal traffic at the time was worked by their North British built 4-8-2 and 4-8-4T locos, two of which are seen going about their business here. There's also a fleeting glimpse of a Bo-Bo Diesel which worked the 'main line' to the exchange sidings (and the GEA class Garratt - not in steam- on shed which deputised for the latter when it wasn't available). Most of the Colliery was a well manicured campus like place from memory, shame it's now closed. We were also lucky in being able to visit the associated Coke works as well ...a place which we'd been told we'd never get admission to.

Colas Class 56s at Kidsgrove

Recorded in 2016 at about 6.20am in Bathpool Park, Kidsgrove (Staffs) as a pair of Colas owned class 56 locos head up the 1:80 with the once a week Grangemouth - Sinfin aviation fuel tanks. Sadly this working passed to another operator and is no longer routed this way.

The huge and unique (to the UK) Cummins V6 powered Daimler CRC6 -36, XDH56G, makes its way back to Wythall Transport Museum. The bus was ordered by Walsall Corporation's eccentric General Manager R Edgley Cox for evaluation in 1969 and was a bit if a mix of Daimler Fleetline and Roadliner parts ... it's compact Cummins V6-200 being accommodated in the UK offside rear corner under the rear stair...

The steam locomotives of Wankie Colliery 1990
zhlédnutí 3,9KPřed 10 lety
Recorded in 1990 at what was Zimbabwe's 'premier' industrial steam location, 'Wankie Colliery'. The Pit was served by a steep branch line from the national railway system at Thomson Junction which was worked by the colliery's own locomotives... all of which at this time were 4-8-2 tender engines very similar to SAR's class 19D.
Sardinian Narrow Gauge Railways 2013

Sardinian snippets recorded in August 2013 on the narrow gauge lines in the north of the island. There are various scenes of Fiat and Breda built Diesel Mechanical railcars on the lines radiating from the island's second city of Sassari, some too on the long cross island line to Palau which runs but once a week in the summer season. The other line included is that from Bosa Marina to Macomer wh...

Uploaded because of a request to see more of the ex South African Railways Class 16CR 'Pacifics' featured here recently. This compilation from the Welkom area begins with a few scenes at Loraine Gold mine where an elderly but immaculate ex SAR 10CR is seen at work. After that we move back to the Saint Helena mine seen previously where virtually their whole fleet of ex SAR 16CRs can be seen at s...

Even in edited form, this video's long and painful to watch! Recorded in 1990 we see former South African Railways 16CR 'Pacific' No 817, now Saint Helena Goldmine No. 5 wearing it's driving wheel tyres away. The ex main line loco is attempting to move a rake of loaded bogie coal wagons off the coaling stage, an epic struggle which took it about 25 minutes to accomplish. At no time was any assi...
Port Elizabeth Sunday steam
zhlédnutí 7KPřed 11 lety
Recorded in early 1986 in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. There was still plenty of steam about, though mostly then confined to freight working and shunts. Here one Sunday morning we have a quick look around the shed whilst huge numbers of locos slumber, then move on to the city's station where various class 15AR 4-8-2 locos go about their business as station pilots and dock shunters.

One of steam's last great spectacles was that at Jalainur open cast mine in the North East of China. SY class 2-8-2 tender engines grappled with steep grades, reversals and heavy loads of spoil or coal out of the huge pit. Here one freezing cold morning in the last year of operation before dump trucks took over in 2010 are a few shots taken shorty after the morning shift kicked in.
South African Steam. A day on the George - Knysna. 1986

Recorded during a 1986 steam enthusiast's tour, not special trains but ordinary branch line workings of the day. The SAR line from George along the Indian Ocean coast though hills and past lagoons to Knysna was undoubtedly one of the county's most scenic. At the time of our visit all traffic was in the hands of the lightly built but modern class 24 2-8-4 with the Vanderbilt 'torpedo' tenders. A...

A few minutes of video salvaged from a brief trip to New York State in 1998 after suffering a camera malfunction (to say the least!).
