Hi Jim, first thank you for this video. My question what would be the best companion for the synth that i actualy have. SUB37, POLYBRUTE 8 VOICES, MINIFREAK, REV2, VCOLLECTION, GFORCE OB-X. also i’ve been told that the OB-6 is prefer to the OB-X8 by many , what is your thought. I’m open to replace some of my synth for better. Thank you
@@AVCOME hi there! You have a really good collection right now and synths are really subjective, so it's really just a matter of what speaks to you and what you feel you're missing. The OB-X8 appeals to me MUCH more than the OB-6 between those two; I sold my OB-6 just a few weeks because I could easily match it with any Oberheim plug-in. No software can match the OB-X8. Another current favorite for me is the 3rd Wave... that is easily one of the best of the last decade, if not ever!
Awesome ☝️

Just bought a JupiterX. Not alot og videos on How to build Sounds from initialized tones on each model. Please make a video building juno106 patches from scratch ( not from an existing patch or preset).
@@findmads but ...why? There's a whole bag of existing Juno 106 patches in there already. No need to start from an initialized patch.
@@JimDaneker because I want play Them as instruments in their own right and I currently find it hard to reproduce the original juno sounds from scratch. I end up with a different result… maybe and probably because of my lack of knowledge. So I’m curious to know if you guys also end up with a different result? Also to learn about how these models generate their sounds like the Jupiter-x was advertised to be able to do…. Otherwise it is a VST in a box… I bought it to design my own sounds from scratch mainly - best way to learn an instrument in my opinion. the factory sounds are nice to have also and not bad.
@@findmads as I said in the video, it absolutely *is* a "VST in a box" - but that is not a bad thing at all. Every digital synth ever made is a VST in a box, and I couldn't care less: what I care about is how they sound, and whether they inspire me. The JPX is an absolute monster synth and is endlessly inspiring. And yes, I can get it to sound completely indistinguishable from the original analog synths it models. I understand what you are saying about wanting to learn programming, so in that sense, starting from scratch is a valuable exercise. From my perspective as a working pro, I just don't have the time, so when I'm looking for a particular sound, I always start with something that's as close as possible and tweak it from there. Keep at it - it's a phenomenal instrument and full of endless potential!
@@JimDaneker thank you for taking the time to answer. I can relate to that, and they are good sounding factory patches, but they also have a lot of stuff added to the tones that can’t be seen from the surface. knowing sound design and getting to know your instrument deeply has always been my way to go, but that is actually easier said than done because of the lack of information about how to do navigate each model - there is not a lot of help from the manual. I use the editor but still. Eventually I will get there, but would have been nice to have some more resources on how to go about it. It is a good sounding synth and the updates have made it better.
Thoughts on the jd-xa?
@@TwinCitiesOxygen I had one and it was a great pad & soundscape machine, but one of the most complicated and frustrating user interfaces Roland ever conceived. I also hated the cheap plastic feel on that one.
That’s amazing!!! No idea you could sing so good!!!
@@iosuagalev aw thanks!
So basically, you get a better synth with the System 8 at nearly half the price. With the Jupiter X, all you get is bigger keys and some aesthetics.
@@brandonaikin5445 not true. While they cover some of the same vintage model territory, they're very different. The System 8 is definitely their best modeling tech, and it's hyper-focused on that. The JPX on the other hand is like an entire anthology of Roland's greatest hits in one box: not just vintage synths, but a lot of modern stuff too, plus pianos, many of their iconic drum machines, other model expansions, vocal designer card, etc. - plus a vastly better road-worthy chassis and keybed.

@@JimDaneker lol… just realized I commented on your vid two months ago! Don’t even remember… haha
@@AllenMichael man, I’m in my 50s now... I can't remember why I walked into a room half the time. 😂😂😂
Thanks Jim! Agree on all points made. Such an inspiring instrument to work with. Endless functionality. Amazing sounding! Love that the design recaptures the JP-8 (that I´ve owned and loved more for its design than the sound). It takes some time to adapt to the thought of Tones (patches) residing in Scenes. Using the editor helps understanding. Moreover, the JPX integrates so nicely with the computer (DAW, editor, Roland Cloud).
The notes at the very beginning make me understand that the OB is lightyears better. Sorry
@@cineplus-ch ...except it isn't. Many are missing the point that it's taking EIGHT (8) OB voices in unison mode to sound like that, while the Jupiter is only playing TWO. I should've kept it fair and done a 1:1 comparison between the two; in that case, the Jupiter sounds WAY bigger than the OB on that particular example. My bad for assuming "the internet" would follow the logic. I'll have to do another video that dives into this more. The JPX can absolutely stand shoulder to shoulder with any analog legend. ANY.
@@JimDanekeri got ur logic brother. Made total sense. Jupiter X sounds insane u vid made me want one.
@@synthsamuraiproductions thanks for the kind words, brother 😁👊🏻
It is still a VST in a box isn't it? With some controllers...
@@stefanaltenburger4651 I answered this in the video: yes it is, but that's far from a negative. Any digital synth since the DX7 (all the way back in 1983!) is a VST in a box "VSTs" have come a LONG way and can easily compete with anything else. So, just forget the whole "VST in a box" label and concentrate on the essential question: is it a good synth or not? For me, it's a thunderous applause. YES.
If so, best VST I´ve ever owned. Like Jim I´ve owned a Jupiter 8 and own a Jupiter X. Soundwise I prefer the Jupiter X any day. Functionally JPX is obviously way superior. Strip the JP-8 "emulator" in JPX from all FX, and I´m not sure I could hear the difference... with no obvious gain or advantage. And I agree with Jim: what is a VST in a box anyway? Everything that does not have discrete components? When do digital synths pass the boundary to being a "VST in a box"? If I still had my JP8 I would have to process it in production to the point where it sounds as "ready for release" as the JPX.
@@fredrikh9299 BINGO!
Thanks you for this premium demo. I'm a proud owner of a TG77. SY99/TG77 are a real (sometimes complicated) synths. Not your average Behringer or Roland preset crap. But oh boy, can they sound exotic!!!!
