Intel Microcode 0x129 Performance Review (Productivity & Gaming) | [Deep Dive]
Intel's Microcode 0x129 fix for Intel 13th/14th Gen CPUs is out, and we tested the latest BIOS to find out if and how it affects performance in productivity and gaming. This is a before and after test, with and without the BIOS fix, to examine how multi-threading and single-threading performance, productivity, rendering, and gaming performance are affected after the new BIOS update to mitigate Intel Core i9 stability and degradation issues.
The new Intel Microcode 0x129 caps Voltage to 1.55v, and keeps it from spiking, thus potentially fixing Intel 13th and 14th Gen CPUs from degrading. Note, it will not fix already degraded CPUs, only mitigate issues from arising on un-affected CPUs. It is in combination with other fixes like Intel Microcode 0x125 to fix eTVB issues, and earlier updates as well to introduce Intel Default Profiles into the BIOS/UEFI for motherboards. Now that Microcode 0x129 is officially released, in non-Beta form, motherboard manufacturers have released the official BIOSs.
In our testing today, we took the ASUS TUF Gaming Z790-PRO WIFI motherboard with an Intel Core i9-14900K and tested with BIOS 1661 vs BIOS 1663, where 1663 introduced MIcrocode 0x129, but BIOS 1661 already had the 0x125 update and profile additions. This let's us do a direct comparison with and without Microcode 0x129 to test and review how it affects performance.
This is a long-form video, with an introduction, productivity and game benchmarks, and a full summary at the end with commentary and time stamps/chapters. It is a deep dive of benchmarks, reviewing the performance of the Intel Microcode 0x129 update fix. Please check out our main website for our full written article below with all the graphs, explanations, numbers, and a summary with our thoughts and opinions.

Lock the cores to 57 ratio and see what happens - if it works with RT then CPU needs to be replaced - if not then it may be something else.

hello! between the rx 7900 xtx asus tuf gaming OC And this model, which would be better? thank you!
Neither, just wait for the next gen cards
Why don't they just make all gpu whit noctua fans all heat problems solved and noise
Until Socket 7 you can compare, after that all lies and every software runs different on AMD or INTEL . some like fraud others are more real..

What's your average idle temps with the 9950x? Thanks! Also, you should install the 24h2 insider release preview to increase your overall gaming performance.
what about competitive gaming? what motherboard should i paid with the series 9000?
just wait some weeks. new 870 chipset motherboards coming in september. they have usb 4.0 and pci 5.0
Is the OC edition better than this? I don't want to overclock anything because i've never had to in the past. So this one is still good?
The 7900xtx is on sale now for $640
You talking about those 3rd party scam sellers on Amazon?
I don't know if you saw the same deal as me because I bought it but later they refunded me.

@@RandomGuy-dg8zqsame here, I was crazy disappointed Amazon sucks
Heat and vibration are not good when it comes to magnets longevity, everything i see says they should last very very long. But I see stipulations as well, including them needing to be covered in a protective layer so the Neodymium doesn't turn to dust, them lasting long at room temperatures, but maybe not at higher prolonged temperatures, and vibration being bad for them too. We will see how well these cards hold after ten years i guess. Love my single screw Sapphire quick connect fans though :)
Do you think it might be a good upgrade to go from the 3800x to the 5800xt? especially to avoid the large expense of money involved in switching to am5
Great video. Are you the person who does the The Star Trek online videos. The voice is so similar. If so you sir have enriched my game play over the years and I love that channel and will watch this one as well. Very clear and informative information. I look forward to the next video.

Nice review! Thank you very much ❤
Mine is ordered on Amazon, 1,730$, shipping arrived on thursday! 😀 But i choose the oc edtion.
This is very helpful. Thank you.
I get the uncertainty when it comes to the 5900XT result, but with the 5800XT performance at least when you then have it performing better than the 13600KF, you can't really claim that the GPU is bottlenecking results. Because if the GPU was bottlenecking the results, then the 5800XT wouldn't be seeing any performance advantages.
I think we are seeing this all wrong here. What if amd is just trying to show us those cpus wont bottleneck the RX 6600?
im being sarcastic here
I have both. Updating ASUS Maximus Z690 Hero bios only set the Base clock speed to the latest INTEL requirement of 3400MGHz W/Zero chance to overclock because they took XMP off on the latest Bios update for July 2024. AND Intel might never fix their 13th and or14th gen processors. I also use an MSI MEG B550 Unify X AMD 5900X PC4000 W/auto clocked at 4700MGHz. I know both systems work fine without overclocking. Hype from one CPU manufacturer to another is nothing more than BS. I gave you a Like for great reporting and hope there will be more. Final note I always remind people that I build PC's for to bring them in for BIOS updates at least once a year or ask them to do it themselves especially for newer model motherboards. As for Intel they will squirm out of any responsibility and just move on to another Generation Processor using their 2 year cycle. Leaving all who buy their products screwed. As for AMD's ZEN Platform they are still devoting time and money to their customers for a few more years. I think that alone is worth more than INTEL ever did.
The real question is if the 5800xt and the 5900xt are faster than the 5800x and 5900x
i switched from 5800X to 5900XT and i am really nicely surprised. really huge difference in performance. Not exactly the scenario you mentioned, however i thought that my situation can give some perspective. As far as i can see 5900XT ($349) is very similar to 5950X ($369)
@vinnyvasilev2322 How much are we talking in terms of cinebench and gaming? How much better is it statistically?
They really should have just took Intel out of the equation and shown the difference between other am4 chips It would have shown the improvements and tbh most if not all people interested in these chips would be am4 upgraders
Can help me about my question? Can fit in pc case phantek evolve shift? Thanks
Good video but where is the temp test ?

This bro. 100% this. Everybody i know that got a amd switch back to Invidia. I own a 4080 super paired with a 7800x3D highly recommended
Either or the 7900xtx with 24gigs will have longer lasting better performance for future proofing.
@@kingcooleyiv incorrect
@@Onyx1776 not at all. Look at the 3080 vs 6950xt. The 6950xt has better performance because of its 16gigs. Not talking about Dlss or Far either. Pure raw performance will always be better long term.
@@kingcooleyiv i was just trolling bro your right
I am gonna be getting this one myself, though i plan to stick with 1440p 120fps, this way, i don't have to worry about future games.
The reason your videos are not popular is because you dont keep it short and summarize
We appreciate your feedback. There are chapters marked to watch the section(s) you are interested in - The AMD chapter is about 5 minutes long, the Intel chapter is about 6 minutes long, the How We Review section is 9 minutes long, and there is a Summary section at the end also marked. Many podcast type videos are much longer in length then this one, in fact it's quite short for this type of video, overall. One of the great things about CZcams is the ability to make long form video content, our intention is to use it in that way related to PC hardware.
I'm glad AMD delayed and will release a quality product instead of doing things like intel.
Thinking of selling my 4090 fe(too powerful its crazy, I have never maxed it out once) and purchase this one, it's one of the cheapest models and it fits my case worth it? or should I go for another 4080s?

Which one is better this one or Sapphire Nitro + (that one looks better)?
I'm in the same boat nitro+ or merc mag😮 first world problems lol merc mag looks better
When it comes to gaming performance all the XTXs are almost identical when stock. The main difference lies in their cooling design. In that department the Nitro+ is considered as the best.
These are $1780 aud, the hellhound is $1399, a 4080 super is $1599. Thats not worth it yet.

After the abysmal response Intel has made to dealing with the ongoing 13900k/14900K issue, Intel can SUCK A FAT ONE. And I say that as a lifelong (now former as of this month) member of team blue. I'm going full AM5 + 9950X on July 31st and selling my 14900K.
Lmao funny conversation
Granite Ridge (9000X series) includes RDNA2 integrated GPU with two compute units (same as previous 7000 series) instead of RDNA 3.5
Thanks for breaking this down, really liked you analysis and clear delivery. I'm running a 12700 and looking to upgrade still not sure if i should pull the trigger now or wait a little longer for the x3d versions. My biggest concern is the low number of PCIE lanes, i really wish these would support 2xGPU at max lanes without needing to go Threadripper or Xeon as the prices of those + mobo's are crazy.
So good to finally see a demo where the latency hasn't been edited out. Seems to be averaging around three seconds... That seems pretty playable to me :)
I think you're dead on with most things int he video. I agree with test system notes. But why does the native video performance of a 6600 destroy the 7600, but the 7600 gets a much better frame generator or upscaling. Most people buying the 5900xt are not buying the 4090, so your rant is slightly disconnected. I also agree the b660 was ridiculous.
That’s super cool
it's July. I am tired of waiting for this CPU to resurface!
I really wanted the 7900xt to have that model as well not a fan of the 3 8-pin cable
It allows better power limits and OC ?
You prefer limited power with 2 rather than option 3 pin? I tried, my 7900 xtx works with only 2 cables, it isn't something I think they mention because it isn't supported, and some GPUs might not work with only 2, but mine does. Also what's wrong with 3?
@@furioustester4056 less cables to deal with and not a fan of power hungry GPUs
I think the ram comparison was shown more for users in situations like me. I have a 3700X showing it's age. Do I spend a bit of money to prolong the system with the 5900xt, or wait and spend more to for a full upgrade to a 9000 model once the full lineup specs are revealed?
I would go with the 7000 series. I have a 3700x too. I probably could a little more out of the cpu with some tighter ram timings but I want to wait until 7000 series becomes a bit cheaper. Thats me though and 5900XT is still a good upgrade
where are you finding them for approx 950?
Now can AI optimize the game so it run smoothly because Wild Card wont?
