John Wesley Ship (Barry's dad) was indeed the Flash. It was a show in 1990 that ran for 1 season. It's not as accurate as this series when it comes to the flash's character but its pretty close I would say. The show takes on a much darker tone than the light hearted nature of this show and many of the actors came back as different characters in this series. Also fun fact, the guy who plays Catlin's fiancé is Stephen Amell's(Oliver queen) brother in real life. Also timeline wise, Flash season 1 happens at the same time as Arrow season 3. Supergirl starts at the same time as Flash season 2 and Arrow Season 4 if you plan on watching that. Finally the best show, legends of tomorrow starts after the flash season 2 episode 8 and its arrow part 2 counterpart.

I just hope they were not that inconsistent with Barry's speed for trivial stuff...
