Hello Jenna, I'm sorry that it took me a little too long to post you the dialogue, but I did it, here you go! :) NOTES: "..." indicates a word or two that I couldn't understand, I tried my best to write it all down, I find it important to mention that I took down parts where the speaker confuses and repeats the same word (with no reason). ~~~~ Paul Stupin (Executive Producer): In this day and age, I think the audiences are so focused on the realism of what they want on the lack of artifice to make the show real and genuine. We really needed to find hard of hearing actors. Deedee Bradley (Casting Director): It was casting with the challenge and I kinda like that sort of things, so it was fun so it's something I was very interested in and I wanted to do it. Lizzy Weiss (Creator/Executive Producer): And she just said, you know: We just, we have to find Daphne, we have to find an amazing Daphne, it's gonna be hard, but we can do it. - I did sort of panic a little bit like "oh god, we do have to find Daphne". She does have to leave the show, and this can be hard. Paul Stupin (Executive Producer): We were looking for, again, a character who could be the lead - have an ABC Family show. Who has a great look, who is a wonderful actress, who has a sense of confidence that the character has, and optimism, and at the same time had to be hard of hearing. Katie Leclerc (Role/Character - Daphne): My name is Katie Leclerc, I get to play the role of Daphne on the show "Switched at Birth", and I'm super excited about it. I started to take sign language in High School because I was very bad at Spanish, and I fell in love with the language and the culture that surrounds it. And I was working on a project and they needed footage of someone getting their hearing tested. So I volunteered because I never had my hearting tested. And I tested and they said: Do you realize that you are eligible for hearing aids? And then I was like "what?". They said: No, your decibels are so far gone that we could provide you with hearing aids right now. Unfortunately they're very expensive, so I waited, but then I was later diagnosed with Ménière's disease. Dr. Rick Friedman (House Ear Institute): So Ménière's disease - it's a debilitating disease, that's associated usually with one-sided hearing loss that fluctuates. It's almost like an ... where they get this bonus in their ear, and then this ... described like a sea shell. It's pretty bad and we don't really have an answer. In some cases, a hearing goes to zero, the ear kinda dies if you, well. Katie Leclerc (Role/Character - Daphne): So some days I hear pretty well, and some days I hear absolutely nothing, and it's really hard because, you know - I have hearing aids now which were provided by the production for the shoot, and I'm so, so thankful to have them, and sometimes they don't work, sometimes they don't really do a lot for me. So when I ask people to repeat themselves over and over and over, sometimes people get frustrated. But most of the time, people are pretty okay with that, and, you know - the people that I really love know that this is an issue when they have to look at me when they speak and they have to, you know - pay attention to make sure that I know how to hear. Deedee Bradley (Casting Director): We did put a Facebook page out and it worked beautifully, we got hundreds and hundreds observations from all over the world and actually that's how I found Sean Berdy self-taped. And he was fantastic. ~ Sign Language: Sean Berdy (Role/Character - Emmett) ~ Lizzy Weiss (Creator/Executive Producer): He is so charismatic, that kid popps off the screen and has such confidence, the casting breakdown, and I had written I wanted ... so I think we ... ~ Sign Language: Scott Berdy (Sean Berdy's father) ~ Interpreter of Scott Berdy (Sean Berdy's father): But three months after, you know, ... you know, your son is deaf like ... now. Steve Miner (Director): I'm not the first person to say the directing is 90 percents casting because they require good actors with the ability to deliver real motions. And it sounds very good: actors were both deaf and hard of hearing to play their roles. ~~~~

ZombiePanik Same lanfuage family. Lsf is actually the predecessor to asl. In the 1800s a French lsf teacher came to America and started a school where he integrated his native lsf with vocabulary already used by deaf Americans (who were at the time never formally schooled) to create asl.
