    Would it be easy to add an AXA lock to this bike? I think it would fit, but do they have mounting options for it in the frame?

    • @BikeRidecom
      @BikeRidecom Před dnem

      The C11 does not have any mounting points for the AXA lock on the rear seat stays, so you would need to use the quick attachments that come with the AXA lock to mount it bolts is not an option. It looks like there should be enough room to get it on the rear triangle, but without trying it is tough to be sure. If anyone has used one on this bike let me know!

      @Metalux - I had the exact same doubt, but I just can't justify the double the cost. Postive thing that made me decide to pre-order this one is the more "torque" and bigger motor which could be nice for longer rides and steeper hills.

    Great unbiased review! I would like to see a comparison of the new Mars 2.0 with the 1000W motor. I have one with the 1000W motor on order now and they are shipping this month. Two of the Cons were brakes and motor. This new version has addressed them both with the motor size increase and the addition of hydraulic brakes. I'm anxious to see how well it performs.

    • @BikeRidecom
      @BikeRidecom Před 10 dny

      @@animalboi1656 Not sure about the developer mode but the advanced settings allow you to increase the speed limit to 25 mph. I have seen other people doing a variety of mods to e-bikes, but I personally do not recommend shunt modding or other methods that trick the computer into increasing speed. These 750W Bafang motors are rated to 45 km/h-28 mph, and operating them at higher speeds will strain the motor and probably shorten its life span. Electric motors are easily modified, but just because we can do something doesn't mean its the best option for safety and longevity!

    I am considering this and the Aventon Ramblas as my do-all bike - light trail riding and recreation/around town/commmuting. Price aside, which of these two bikes would you pick, and why? Thanks!

    • @BikeRidecom
      @BikeRidecom Před 11 dny

      I have not had a chance to ride the Aventon Ramblas yet, but I am working hard to get one into the studio! I loved the Ride1Up Prodigy, its a great bike with little to no downsides in my opinion. I still enjoy riding it more then a year after the review. Great geometry, the Brose motor is a gem and it has all the features you would want for a trail/commuter bike. Having said that! If I had to choose between the two I would probably choose the Aventon Ramblas. between Aventon and Ride1up I have found Aventon to be a bit more consistent between bikes; they are slightly more expensive than Ride1up but bring high-quality levels. Ride1Up has had more fluctuation with quality for other models. The Ramblas is also newer, and was designed as a E-MTB specifically, so the geometry is probably going to be slightly improved over the Prodigy.

      I enjoyed the Lectric XP3.0 as a folding bike, but in general, I prefer nonfolding bikes. Two brands I have had good luck with are Himiway and Ride1Up, both have good bikes for reasonable price ranges including some nice lighter e-bikes.

      @KEVINSNIDE Před 8 dny

    • @BikeRidecom
      @BikeRidecom Před 7 dny

      @@KEVINSNIDE I do tend to prefer non folding bikes since the geometry of the bike tends to be better which leads to a more enjoyable ride experience. I find folders tend to be less comfortable for riding on tight trails, and completing corners. If you need a folder for storage and transport it makes sense, and if you are planning to ride mostly on pavement and recreational situations it probably wont matter to you as much. If you are a avid biker then you will probably find more enjoyment from other bikes since it will be closer to a regular bike

      I have had a chance to ride the Lectric Xp3.0, HeyBike Mars, Engwe EP-2 Pro and Fiido M1 Pro, they are all similar in nature with some slight differences. This M1 is the only full suspension bike amount those 4, so it stands out for its suspension (despite its low price) as well as quick acceleration. I found this M1 wasthe fastest to accelerate amount the 4. So for full suspension riding and acceleration the M1 is the top pick. The M1 is missing a rear rack though, which both the HeyBike Mars and Lectric XP3.0 have. As far as bike quality I liked the Lectric XP3.0 the best, nice paint and frame, included a rack, fenders and lights and hydraulic brakes. And it had reasonable performance in general. It was however slower to accelerate then the M1 pro and also was not full suspension, so that should be considered as well.

    How can you confirm the claims of the manufacturer, regarding the output of the motor and the power of the battery? There is no testing agency to verify claims I have seen grossly exaggerated claims of battery output, not with e-bikes, but with RC equipment, plus claims of things like SD card memory which were completely bogus.

    • @BikeRidecom
      @BikeRidecom Před 17 dny

      You are correct, the batteries are not something you can open up and count cells, and motors need a special rig to test torque or power output. I can tell you from real-world testing that different bikes have huge differences in performance even with identical motors or identical claimed battery output, not to mention controllers. Any single lower quality component can change the performance of the entire unit. Real world testing and comparing test data is one of the best ways to tell the good from the bad, without being able to bench-test each component individually

    When will ebike manufacturers include an in-frame 'piggy back' battery socket to plug in 2nd battery mounted on the rack. Could be controlled by the computer display to auto switch to the 2nd battery when the main battery reaches a preset level or a manual selection. I see Wired has this 2nd battery standard on one of their bikes. I say this as the odds of these manufacturers continuing to supplying in frame replacement batteries is questionable, so an after market battery pack maybe the only way to keep an older ebike on the road. Plus it helps eliminate range anxiety as no one wants to peddle these tanks without motor assist.

    • @BikeRidecom
      @BikeRidecom Před 24 dny

      Yes no one wants to pedal these without assistance! Himiway has another bike which features dual batteries - the Himiway Rhino and I have seen other brands offer dualo battery bikes or a range extender option. Vanpowers offers a hidden "waterbottle" second battery option, and I have also seen EBC offer a second battery pack hidden in the front rack. Those are a just a few options so it is definitely possible!

    I like your website, but I'd like to see the bikes ranked by expert review scores instead of random users. Maybe some background on the companies producing these e bikes would be helpful too, like how long they've been around. I'm hesitant to buy from some of these startups that have only be on the scene for a year

      Thanks for watching! The BikeRide score includes all of the expert reviews available online, and factors them into the final score that is displayed on the bike review page. We also include user reviews, but they are not weighted as heavily in the calculation of the score. The primary sources of info for the score are expert reviews. If you want to know more about the score check out this article for a full breakdown of how it is created. www.bikeride.com/score/ I can understand why you are hesitant to purchase from a start-up; many e-bike companies are here and gone again within the first years of existence. It's always best to go with a company with a proven track record. So that is a good suggestion. I know our writers try to include background information on the bike producers and take a hard look at the longevity of the bikes, as mentioned by other reviewers and users. We look hard for the negative attributes of every bike! but we will look at including more info on the review pages as we update. Thanks for your comment!

    Need to know: these 960WH batteries, can they be charged by a solar panel while camping, and what types, what would you know about this?

    • @BikeRidecom
      @BikeRidecom Před měsícem

      Good questions. Yes, you can charge the battery from solar panels. If you search on CZcams, you will see different people who have rigged solar charging options for Himiway bikes. Himiway does not sell a specific solar panel setup for charging, so you will need to do some legwork to make it happen. If you choose to pursue solar charging please research methods and apply electrical safety measures at all times. Lithium-ion batteries are susceptible to fires when you start to explore different charging options, or using third-party chargers could increase fire risk. You can either create a solar array and then connect a DC-DC converter with the same output (54.6V-2-4A) to charge the battery directly from the panels. Solar arrays and charging are an entire topic in and of themselves, so some research and planning will be required. You also must ensure the charger is rated for Lith-Ion battery charging. Some brands like QuietKat sell solar array/chargers that are built with the charger included. You can also use a solar "generator" or similar setup that comes with panels, charger and inverter with its own battery pack. Options would include the Jackery, Ecoflow, or Anker and others. Then you can simply plug the Himway 110V charger into the solar generator. This is less efficient since the panels are charging the generator's battery, and then the generator is inverting the current up to 110V, then the charger is stepping it down to 54.6V. It is less efficient but requires less setup and electrical know-how than rigging a DC-DC charger and matching input/output so you can charge directly from the panels safely.

      @BikeRidecom Před měsícem

      Yes, it's definitely lighter than electric motorcycles! I find that those who come from motorcycle or dirt bike backgrounds often do not mind the increased weight, being used to maneuvering a large, heavy bike already. But those coming from bikes to e-bikes are often shocked since they are heavier than traditional bikes and other performance e-bikes.

I had a lot of fun riding it, but I can also see how it is really best for specific uses. Many users would find it challenging to use in urban environments and to store effectively. I have heard from many users who regret an e-bike purchase because it did not properly match their needs or was larger and heavier than they had expected!

      Thanks for watching and for the nice comment! I mentioned the step-thru version briefly in the review's "frame" section, but it is easy to miss. It is identical in every way to the step-over version except that it does not have a top tube on the frame. This means the bike has a slightly different geometry and is better for shorter riders. The REG size step-through frame will fit riders 4'11" - 5'7", so it should be perfect for a 5' rider. Other than that, all other components are the same on the bike

      Many e-bikes will accommodate a rider of 300lb, the 700 series mentioned in this video has a weight limit of 300lb. Take a look at some of the Himiway bikes, such as the Zebra, or Cobra, both are well built, capable of 25-28mph and have 20Ah batteries which will push you for 25-30 miles on max assist Also QuietKat makes some nice bikes such as the Lynx which will be fast, with a 20Ah battery as well

      @@ruelbautista9966 None of the e-bikes we review travel faster then 28 mph, as this is the highest speed allowed on the road. I live in a first floor flat, so, I need a lightweight ebike, mainly for city use. I have found a bike I like a lot. It is the PVY Z20 Max. It weighs 27 kg with the additional battery, (which can be taken off, while carrying the bike upstairs to my flat). It has 26.5 Ah, a top speed of around 25 mph, 20 X 2.3 street tyres, hydraulic brakes, torque sensor, 80Nm of torque, front and rear suspension, 7 speed Shimano, twist throttle, IPX5 waterproof, folding pedals, and they say the range is 200 km, but I would be pleased with half of that ! What do you think ?.. Or maybe you can suggest an alternative ?.. I live in the UK and the price is £949

      Wow, those specs sound like a good deal! It seems you have checked all the boxes when it comes to performance. I have not had a chance to ride a bike from PVY, so I went ahead and did a little bit of reading. Since you are from the UK I would read this article, it mentions that the bikes do not conform to regulations and are illegal to ride in the EU, not sure if this applies to the UK as well. This may or may not change your opinion but it could lead to problems, and I have read they are challenging to return if you do have an issue! www.notebookcheck.net/PVY-Z20-Pro-review-Convincing-extremely-affordable-and-foldable-e-bike-with-potential-for-improvement.717606.0.html

      What if it breaks? Is there a warranty? How easy is it to fix?

    • @BikeRidecom
      @BikeRidecom Před měsícem

      @@americandude3825 Himiway offers a 2 year limited warranty on its bikes. Aftere 7 days however, breakage during general use will result in users having to pay for parts or shipping. E-bikes are pretty durable but are electrical components and have the typical gremlins and issues. With these rear hub versions the electrical components most likely to break are a motor, or controller. All the electrical components are items that would just be replaced if they malfunction, just unplug and plug in the new item. Motors are more challenging since they would need to be rebuilt into the wheel, or get one already installed on a rim. The same goes for other items like the throttle, display, all pretty inexpensive on their own to replace if they get smashed and just unplug from the controller. As for other components, most of the items like drivetrain, brakes, hubs, bearings and wheels/spokes are all typical bike components, maintenance and replacement would be the same as a bike and can be completed by home mechanics or a bike shop.

    • @BikeRidecom
      @BikeRidecom Před měsícem

      The motor is Himiway branded - 750W nominal 100W+Peak output with 86Nm of torque at peak. It is similar to the Bafang 750W hub motor, with the same specs. It could be a Bafang motor whitelabeled for Himiway, but I cannot confirm this. The warranty for Himiway is 2 year limited, It is good to note, though, that most of the components are not covered by warranty after 7 days of the first use, so it is mainly the frame and battery covered. This is pretty typical of the bikes. Most warranties like this will cover you when you first buy the bike in case a part malfunction quickly or does not work from the start. It gets challenging after using the bike because many parts are deemed wear items and will be charged to the user for replacment if they break while in use. Heres the warranty info with fill terms. ca.himiwaybike.com/pages/warranty
