Bottleneck slide ! Ceramic or glass ? By Mete Ege
Ceramic or glass bottleneck slides ? Is there a real difference ? Do they affect the sound we create ? The tone, the colour ? I feel more in control with glass but ceramic has more of a high mid frequency. Glass is cleaner and ceramic is..well..more metallic ? i don't know..yes, it is geeky but we are, after all, guitar players..let me know what you think in the comments..Thanks for watching.

Trying out a ceramic slide. Not so sure. Let me know your thoughts. I am playing a Katar Custom Telecaster ( which I mainly use for session work when telecaster is required ) with Fender Texas Special pickups on them. My Telecaster has a 4 way switch so here I am on neck/bridge 2 position ( if that makes sense ! ). I recorded through a Yamaha THR 10C amp which are very handy indeed. Trying to w...

    I wanted to like the ceramic but glass wins the day. Great playing either way!

      Thanks for the comment, glass tends to be warmer..I suppose depending on the song, I decided to use the ceramic more for rocky stuff and glass for more mellow..but the quest is still on I guess :)

    I don't know much about this area. But as an untutored layperson, I would say there seems to be a real difference of sound between the two. The ceramic sounded heavier. I liked it better.

    Hmmm... It seems like the good tone is there...maybe the settings need to be adjusted to fully find it?

      @stratsmoke Před 7 lety

      Yes, the tone is there alright, thanks. Since the video I've ben recording a lot with that slide and now feel more comfortable. And it is a fact, it has more of a muddy tone when compared to my usual glass slides but you know what, I like it when playing with a dirty, gain up setting. I tried it on my resonator guitar, unplugged, as well, still trying to find the sweet spot for more sustain. I think the coating on the actual slide plays an important role too. So I say, variation is good to achieve a certain feel and colour but try it well before you purchase one since I got a feeling they will all sound different. 'Nuff of my geek talk :) Thanks for your input man, appreciated. Cheers!

    Looks like nice kit. A potential buyer might wish to know how vocals sound, and how independent the inputs are, but we'd have to look elsewhere for that. Your enthusiasm is infectious though.

      +Mark Harwood Hi Mark, thanks for your comment. The amp is just amazing for what it does. I tested and used it many times with my mobile going in to one input to play backing tracks and guitar in to the other one and just sounds great. I, personally have not tried it with a vocal microphone but it is worth a try. People on the street are just amazed by its beauty !! Please get in touch with V8 amps and I am sure they would be more than happy to help. They are great guys and really love what they are doing. And doing a great job !!
