I worked on my 86 today and got the hatch flush and sealed so I think it’s almost ready for big trips! I also figured out how to unlock the doors in these. There’s a mechanism behind the door cards in these cars. Spent a lot of time turning bolts sitting in the back of the 86. My back is gonna feel it in the morning! 😂 bonus video of visiting a local mechanic friend. #ae86 #ae86trueno #driftcar...

Who did you use to export the car, what company im trying to export a landcruiser from guatemala
It was a friend’s relative. And they charged me $2800 instead of the promised $2000 plus $400 in fees. I feel like I got done dirty overall but I think I’m going to do a video about why you shouldn’t import a car from Guatemala. There’s so many things that can go wrong even if everything is going right. I wish you the best of luck and I hope you find someone that can ship and export it for you cheap!
❤❤❤❤
where can i find one?
I decided not to actually fix the problem
I have a manual steering rack in My Miata, it rips but then again I’ve owned it for 15 years almost 😅
My car doesn't have power steering (for now). Shit sucks trying to park.
Parking is horrendous
Weak asss😂😂😂😂
"try not to lose your fingers" 💀
Cool but that thing is ROUGH for the money you spent. I'd be very disappointed but you're already this far into it. It's not easy to find these cars anymore. Might as well live with your decision and work with what ya got.
Yeah of course I would love for it to have been much nicer. The hit on the way home didn’t help my case any. This thing is so humble it hurts but that’s part of the charm but I wish I had paid half of what I put into it.
@theJoshClark it will probably take a lot to make it the way you want it to be. At least you got it here and it's yours now. Personally, I would just take my time with it. You have your work cut out for you but the car certainly makes a cool project.
Come to AE86 fest in Ireland for ideas.
I would love to go. When is the festival?
1st of September I think. But double check yourself just in case. Ireland is the home of the twin cam.
THIS CAR WAS MADE IN GUATEMALA!
To my knowledge every AE86 including the left hand drives made for markets outside of Japan were all made and assembled in factories in Japan. This particular car was probably sold in the U.S. considering it was registered in the U.S. in ‘95.

Why did homie name his channel after a anime character. People are gonna look him up and get sent here lol
Absolutely not worth it man sorry lol no disrespect
I’m gonna be honest with you homie. I wish they were $500. If you see any that cheap let me know.
i mean its a pretty sweet car, idk about 9k thou. just curious what are parts like to find for these. i used to have a 85 toyota van and that thing was impossible to find parts for, minus the motor wasn't expecting the 3y to be easy to find parts for. i will say just make the car your own, your not gonna make money out of it so make it your own and enjoy it.
These cars are beloved enough you can find parts in Facebook groups but they’ll cost you a pretty penny depending on what part you need. Just having the part #’s from the dealership for parts that they still have in stock will help.
If you do a web search for AE86 for sale you'll see that these cars with the drift tax can well exceed 10k for a shitty example. These cars are legendary even if they are from the 80's due to their light weight and as dumb as it sounds the history. You can find GT-S examples without a hatch back for 5-6 in the states and most times they've been hacked up and aren't even running or rusted out. As far as parts go, finding OEM stuff is expensive and difficult, but there is a huge aftermarket available due to their racing prestige. This car weighs around 2400# fully optioned and is RWD. for comparison, my 2013 NC Miata weights 2500#.
People don't realize you can get imports from a place much much closer to the US and it's not a foreign country, where I'm from these cars and alot of other jdm cars are super common
Is the providence you speak of Puerto Rico?
@@theJoshClark yes
How does one go about importing cars from there? I’ve seen a lot of coupes posted up for sale from Puerto Rico. I’d be tempted to fly out there and find one in person.
@@theJoshClark I've tried to reply to your comment multiple times, you just gotta shipp it out via freight, and register it in your state, similar to how you would with a vehicle from a different state than yours, all you need is the title. Shipping costs anywhere from $1,500 to $3,500 depending on the size of the vehicle and insurance you add to it.
@@esu2537 that’s essentially what it costs to import from Guatemala. But I know in Puerto Rico they have a lot more of old Toyotas and they take really good care of them. All of the ae86’s I’ve seen from Puerto Rico look as worn as a used Camry. Still in good condition or even mint.
IDK dude, this seems like a pretty sweet grab for 9k. You bought a chassis, make it yours.
It really was before the wreck lol. But it’s still got potential. I just can’t stand the exhaust fumes. I’ll make a video about that next.
@@theJoshClark personal ask, send it back to stock and then modify it from there. I think you would be doing yourself a favor by driving it the way it came from the factory or as close as you can get to it. At least, that's what I would do If I went through all this trouble to get the car home.
That has been the dream from the start. It’s mostly stock but it’s all going on 40 years old so it’s seen better days. Definitely keeping the 4A-GE in. I’m going to put some black carpet to match the rest of the black interior. It was definitely all black interior the day it was rolled off the line. The black seats have a grey checkered pattern that I haven’t seen in any ae86 before.
I gotta say, she can move
It's not bad dude!!! Your obviously gonna need a competent dent puller from a good bodyshop!!!
those cars are kinda lame. just get a 80s nissan 200sx turbo looks just like that toyota but cheaper better.
I definitely think the Nissan s12 is a cool car. I wish it was a bit lighter but it does have that ae86 look. Might be a cool car to drop a beams motor into. I love that you can find one of those as a roller for $700 lol.
HI... 😀😀😀😀😀
Lets be real, these are collector cars. You found one running, driving, and not beat to crap and... ALL STOCK. You have a gem, regardless of it's current state. It's an old Corolla at the end of the day, there's not many showroom condition examples left so I'd say yours is pretty close! Don't feel bad at all, this is 15x better than almost all of them you find in the states. You did a good job.
Definitely fixable, it won't be easy or cheap but absolutely worth it. Part of owning these old cars is accepting the fact that bodywork on them is an absolute nightmare. I got lucky with a bodyshop that my friend was cool with and by way of that, they did a light resto on my S13 hatch.
I'm very sorry to hear that. It's such a special and rear car. Hope you can manage to fix it! It deserves a second chance!
A little body work and it will be fine
Considering how hard it is to get parts anywhere. its gotta be a motherfucker to get parts in guatemala.. Props to whoever owned it for keeping it as nice as it is. Suck about the wreck. life goes on tho. not a bad straightening job for some buddies with some hammers
It really does look much better. It looked awful before. Putting in new taillights helped but my friends did a really good job straightening out the tail light panel and I’m grateful for their help. It had been hit in the back before which didn’t help. It had a pretty good amount of bondo on it covering up the previous damage. It did survive all of those years in Guatemala. It probably had good owners and bad owners while it was down there lol. The last guy before me took care of it I know.
It looks fixable.
How the fuck is that totalled?! That’s literally only got a damaged rear bumper!! They declare total on everything nowadays.
Despite the condition that it's in it still looks good 🤩
The 86 being so foreign and small probably didn’t register to the country bumpkin in the F-250 that hit him
The way he was just haulin’ ass, and the way he hauled ass right after hitting me lol. I figure the guy was drunk or on his phone.
What website did you use to look for cars like this to import one to the states?
Facebook

all the good expensive parts look to have survived ! Honestly just fix it , it'll look invisible after
Alabamians are the worst!! Fix it up bro, she still has plenty of life in her!
It’s rough down here 😂
If you're willing to take a drive to Chicago, theres a junkyard in the Northside that has a Corrolla GTS shell. Its a parted out donor that one of the employees owns. The rear end was still in good shape last time I checked.
How much is left of it? Do they still have the whole body? Is it still a roller? I go out that way sometimes delivering brand new garbage trucks.
Are you talking about LKQ on north?
@@theJoshClark I believe its a roller. Most of the interior has been stripped already but the shell is still largely intact.
@@King_Cooler64 Thats the one.
@@Ru2stee Haha, I saw that car over a year ago and at the time it still had a full interior and a motor I believe as well.
Totalled? LOL that's tuesday in greece! Fix it.

im up in huntsville. awesome car; is it public information how much it cost to get it to alabama ?

cool 800 dollar car i guess
thats what they really are worth 🤷 but its not possible to find one under 10k. initial D tax...
@@megatrashboi11I see parts trucks with no motors go for 1 grand, everything is overpriced these days
@@MrOiram46don’t mean they sell for that much
In France is around 15000$ for it and it's very difficult to find one because between 1983-86 toyota has just sold 250 units 😩
I had my corolla AE112R totalled a few years ago. Got hit in the right rear bumper, thankfully nothing structural or mechanical was damaged, and I was able to get it restored. It's a shame about the condition of your car, but as long as it's structurally and mechanically good, restoring it will be a fun project!
You're going to be discouraged at some point from owning this vehicle, but if you keep this car & take care of it it will take care of you ❤ Own it for some time & care for it & almost like magic you'll see it get better & better
I hope the best for her😢. How was the road trip before the accident?
It was honestly loads of fun. I had a lot of good experiences in Texas. People seem to really appreciate the 86 too. I had a guy in an 18 honk at me and start recording me on an interstate in Dallas, Texas while he was driving lol. He was definitely a fan of the car. Then I had this girl in Shepherd Texas ask if she could take pictures of the car, of course I said yes, and she took a few pictures of me with the 86. I asked her if she knew what kind of car it is and she said, “Yes, it’s a Trueno!”

Very sad. You could probably fix that tho 👍🏽🙏🏼
That’s the dream 🙏🏼 I’m sure it’ll work out.
fix it... looks pretty beat up but it has its personality, and the rear end its fixable... and it doesn't look really hard to do... just replacing the rear bumper and all the stuff rotten/rusty and a little job on the inside and it'll be good to go! (check the engine from top to bottom)
They sell the tail light panel online for $150. I’ve thought about buying it and having someone weld it in. I’ve also thought about buying a hatch wrecked in the front and cutting off the back and maybe welding that in instead. I can’t close the hatch right now because the metal holding the door latch hook is bent back and about to break into unfortunately. Also the hatch itself sits high because it was knocked up from the wreck. If I could get that fixed the car would seal pretty good.
Need one
Glad it’s back to driving condition my friend 🙏🏻
Yessir! We need to go for a spin in it asap! I’ve sealed most if not all of the holes that were letting in the exhaust fumes. And the car has been detailed! So it’ll make for a more pleasant drive.
ugh, that is such a bummer you got a butt punch on the way home. Honestly love the car, something about it makes my left foot itch.
It’s an unexpected late passion in life. I have fallen in love with the ae86 aesthetic lol. There will be more videos, some car meets, and hopefully a visit to the drift track in it in the near future! I have more videos from today but I’m going to have to learn to edit to put it all together lol.
Same bro, didn't get into cars until now that I'm 29 and watching Initial D@@theJoshClark
It’s never too late! I’ve been around cars and mechanics all of my life but Initial D played a big part in bringing that passion to life for me. I was interested in buying an ae86 back in the late 2000’s but it cost an arm and a leg to import them. I had no idea that America had their own version of them. Otherwise I would have owned one a long time ago. I found out about Keiichi Tsuchiya because of Tokyo Drift and discovered his videos on CZcams in 2008 or 2009 and fell in love with the ae86 back then but kind of moved on from ever getting one until recently. I wish I had known lol.
If I'm honest I like the sound the cheaper ones make when they open compared to the more expensive ones. I also wish i could get the automatic ones in Canada I have a spring assisted manual.
