I think these guys are awsome I barrel race and do pole bending and I run three horses for you guys who don't appreciate what we do it's a privilege for us to do this and it's a lot of fun and hard work

Wow that horse is phenomenal. Personally, I don't care if he grabs the poles because it's not like he's picking the pole up from the ground. I mean cmon people look at the horse, he's crazy good at this and that's pretty awesome talent

Actually it doesn't. Plus, you give them supplements. I know a horse, actually pony that loves barrel racing and pole bending and he's 29 and he has been doing it since he was about 10 years old. Of course since he's old we don't run him that hard, but it doesn't mess them up like you would think. Especially if you take good care of your horse.
The only thing I really don't like is when the rider constantly kicks or whips their horse the whole run back. Like I can ALMOST guarentee that horse will gallop as hard as he can back after galloping a round of poles, you know? I mean at least that applies for me. If i kick my horse she bucks lol

WildWestHorseLover Okay. This is a little harsh. I do this same sport, and I do not use a whip or spurs. Ever. I would never use a spur on my horse and while I have used a crop a time or two it's never HITTING, just gentle tapping as cues. I used to use a hackimoor (spelling...) on my mare but she was trained on a bit as a filly so she tended to get confused, and I reverted back to it since she doesn't mind and opens her mouth for the bit so I assume it's not bothering her. I know my horse well and she loves to compete. She loves to run. She loves to show off. I have never used pain to get her to do anything. She is my baby and if I thought it was hurting her to compete I'd stop in an instant. But we both love it and we do well, maybe not 1st all the time but in the top 3 usually, despite not using pain as you insist we do. So please at least be open minded that not all people who appreciate a particular sport use the same methods.

I pole bend and barrel race. No whips or Spurs and a very soft bit. It takes more heart than training. Making a horse do a sport it dosent love will never make a winner
i feel bad for that horse cause he was holding him back and telling him to go at the same time
None of these guys looked to be holding back their horses while pushing them. All they're doing is really using the reins and any kicking you see is them pushing their horse over while turning.

Never said he was a bad rider, he's a great rider and his run in this video is really good. I was just voicing my opinion on grabbing poles while running the pattern. And no I don't go to congress or breed shows, I do nbha shows. No need to be so outlandish and hateful my opinion is my opinion and I felt like sharing it.

Bboy, you don't know much about pole bending. I've ran against Brannon at the World, Congress, NPBA Championship and everywhere else. He is an incredible rider and rides incredible horses. I don't think I've ever seen you at any of those shows. What he does in this video is not "cheating", read a rule book. You seem to be bragging because you can "run" a pattern without touching a pole. Maybe, but not when you are running low 19s.

Bboy-1st, what major titles/championships have you ever won? Who are you? 2nd, a rider is allowed to grab or touch a barrel/pole so long as it doesn’t intentionally alter the course. This is NOT cheating. Grow up; learn a little before you post. 3rd, why should a rider be penalized for using an amazing skill, and trying with all their effort to be the best? I’d rather see someone go fast and risk it then play it safe. Kudos to them! Finally, anyone can ride without touching poles, Big Whoopee. k
I think they shouldn't be allowed to grab the poles and push them back up...... thats not how pole bending was origanlly, and at the local barrel shows i go to you get disqualified if you try and do what this guy did to every single pole!!!!!! its cheating and it gives unfare results! you should be able to run the pole pattern without even touching a pole, i can do it on all my horses!
How is it cheating it’s talent if your good enough to do this then you deserve it!

I think he looks good...seeing a guy pole bend is awesome. You'd be amazed how many tall people ride smaller horses. I'm 5'6 and ride a 14.2 horse.
