Sten was offered a chance to test Mikaels Norton model 40 featherbed Manx on Sviestad, here is the footage. The Manx is an nice old bike with race history, to be able to enjoy it without risking the driveline a Molnar engine and a TTI gearbox is fitted! It has seen some fettling last year to make it go right, it culminated with a test drive by a knowledgeable Finnish pilot on Anderstorp who sig...

Two starts, second one after adjusting the float level. Engine is a Velocette MOV with a Viper head and Triumph daytona piston. Gearbox is a TT-ratio prefix11 connected with a Kevin Thurston Belt drive and clutch. The frame is a heavily modified Honda CB125 K5 frame. Nicknamed Urvel as a nod to Urban Engström's yellow CB175.

Filmed with a Gopro Hero3 White edition at Sviestad, Sweden. The bike is a Velocette MAC ~1946-1952 ~350cc Things that happen according to dad :D 1:13 Benny Watz on the 500 Husqvarna twin passes just as i roll out. 3:17 Realises that i'm getting closer to the Watzqvarna so decides to try a little harder. 6:57 Benny goes into the pits, damn! I drop pace due to disappointment. 9:00 Sees things ah...
Beware of lightening MAC valve colars by scolloping them The steeper taper compared to Venom type makes them prone to splitting My best engine was written off by dropping in the complete exhaust valve
Love the lateral frame flex when going from one bank to the other Damn fine engine tuming though
Boggy,torqueless😮
love the sound.
How did you ever get any power out it? Mine was really slow. Does your have exhaust valve larger than the inlet? Mine did and I never understood why.
Standard valves. Inlet opened up to 1 3/16". M17/8 cam and as much compression as can be had without things touching. Std valves are of equal size.
Two KSS BIKES NOTMSS
Never missed a beat, but Velocetts rarely do. Exelent video. I owned two 1938 mss Velos, and a 1955 mss, that my friend Charlie Neal brought up to almost Venom spec
I like bikes that work properly
It's an unusual bike. Looks like a mid-late '50s race bike based on an International, with a very big race front brake. More brake than an International will need. Also an early '30s mag chain cover
Stunning bike
Lovely bike. I,v been lucky enough to have owned 2 thruxtons A 1966, and a 1967 one .the 1966 one bought from Geoff Donkins. Fitted a 22 gearbox spocket on the 66 one reached 70mph in 1st gear ,90 in 2nd But would not pull anything in 3rd or 4th.Back to 18t.
Il fallait pas dépasser 6200 tours...
Have you got Amal GP carbs on that, hence the lack of idle circuitry?
You are correct.
Just beautiful
Is this a stock engine or modified?
Its mostly standard.
Bit Smokey
Aha det var där du gömde dig, var runt hela depån trodde jag ;-) Bra jobbat.
Smoky Joe.
Lovely sound to my untutored ears!
Back when bikes were bikes……..😊

I understand, Anthony - bought one in 1969. Rode it round England for a month, then shipped it and myself to JFK airport and rode it back to Minnesota. Owned her for 3 years doing more than 'puttering about', and traded for a Commando. Not a bad machine ,that, either. Still have the Commando but I'd like to have the Thruxton, too.
Lovely sound. Thank you.
Get it on a dyno to check the carburation out. be a lot quicker.
10TT 9 carb needs air screw wound out ,too rich,270main jet 7 cut away for starters
NOTICE the lack of viberation.Quality ! Enjoyment at its peak.
why not
Great bike
Do you wear a face mask all over the race?🤪 The red lining on this flyscreen is looking terrible! Please change into black!
You do what you have to, but the masks were a bit silly.
Fantastic Motorcycle
Please note the wrist/fairing edge interference interface here. Made to be ridden in a crouch most of the time, bless it. One of the few British bikes I'd really like toown, even with the "wrong side" shift and 6v electrics. Well, at least you can change one of those things..
Actually the right side shift.... the other side is both left and wrong.
what wrong with 6v on a club man road bike it’s got a mag for ignition and modern led make a hell of a difference velos are its said are the best handling british bike i know i use to show up a lot of modern bikes but mybe it was the rides not the bike
Music to thine ears. :) Puts the Asian buzz boxes to shame. Where did we go so wrong.
what very good camera do you use?
This video was with a gopro hero 7 black.
@@erikvonwachenfeldt thanks, the video is soooo stable
Seems to be having trouble finding neutral.
Great stuff!!
Why is a Teuton bothering with Britsh crap? Anything less than Rolls Royce is not worth wasting your time on.
My Father rode a Trident back in the 60s, he used to moan about reliability but loved the engine when it was right. I personally ride a Street triple, serendipitous perhaps. Thanks for the video guys.
i had a really early hinckley trophy 900. loved it. had carb daytona and injection daytona. now have tiger 955i - my most favourite bike ever to own
@@raymondo162 Me too (hinckley trophy 900), sigh.... and @Gonzo, sounds like the apple didn't fall far from the tree. Excellent.
Hej erik jag skulle kolla om du kan lägga upp vårn film med?
Det fixar jag.
Ma che accelera? E' una cosa indecente!! Brucia olio da schifo.........
Lovely bike. Interesting those adjustable angle rear shocks.
Hjälmen!
Beautiful bike but it’s certainly burning something it shouldn’t !
Just as bad as it was 60 years ago. Sounds horrible. Piece of junk.
Preciosa moto aunque parece que la bicha no es fácil de arrancar, será por los años que lleva parada. Menos mal que contaba con un magnífico ayudante.
Beutifull bike
Excellent job, well done. Frankly, I'd be worried if a newly rebuilt bike DIDN'T smoke a little! I'd think it had been put together dry?
Wait until it is clutch time! Great race bike in the day still a 100mph machine.
clutch is simple as long as you don't think of it as a BSA, Triumph clutch. Different yet understandable.
Thanks for posting old time fan but that was fantastic
Noobs please note: see the aluminum arc where the shocks mount? You could move the shock forward (softer, different damping pattern) or rearward (for when you convinced that girl to ride two-up).
Oh this is fantastic. Well done the Velofellow. 2" GP carb, .002 preload on the mains, I remember it all. I was going to buy one from Geoff Dodkin in E. Sheen, but passed as they were so difficult to start and I need a bike for work, so I got a CB750. THE best gearbox ever made. An ugly duckling, but oh, so smooth and accurate.
