Just got the s282 up the hill with 960T. Ran the loop reverse of what you did and crested the hill at a whoping 2 kph. My first attempt i got to the top much faster but blew up the boiler on the down hill. I would be surprised if you could make it doing less than 50 kph when you hit the junction.

Needs 2 282’s for 1100T+ out of north east coal mine

The dh4 has three torque converters. The hydraulic oil runs through the the smallest to larger converters. The converters run through them. It makes the converter act like three different gears. If you pay attention to gauges and sound you can hear it switch to another (gear) converter.

A kid i knew in elementary school mother jumped in front of a train and killed herself when i was about 8 years old. (I can still to this day remember the sirens) It was convenient for her because we all lived 1/4 miles away from the main line. For years and years the urban legend was you can see her ghost once in a while.

If you are popping the safety as often as you are. Yoy are wasting steam and water. Open the cutoff more and use that steam rather than venting it. Or trickle in water to the boiler to concert that excess heat to steam. Also, leave the train brake in the release (rearmost) position whenever yoy aren't using it. Leaving it in the middle will prevent the reservior on the cars from recharging.

Try using the steam shunter as a banking loco and see how much it can do then

(Pauses video) I've just unlocked the DE6 and the slug and have done a few jobs with them. So far as I can see that combination accelerates slowly but inexorably, the independent brake doesn't work nearly as well because it's now many tonnes heavier but against that because of all the extra traction motors the dynamic brake will throw you through the windscreen if you're not expecting it, and wheelslip isn't a problem, it just goes. For licenses, the way it mostly seems to work out is you want MU so you have to get concurrent 1 first to unlock it, then you find out that anything big enought o be worthwhile needs long 1, which is just as well because you need that to unlock manual service and if you think servicing 2x DE2's is expensive try x2 DH4's ...

From my experience 2 X De2 should be able to haul around 600t out of the Harbour leaving 200t spare hauling power to make it up the hills. Where you made the mistake ( I feel) is trying to haul the dead weight of a DE6 (the slug) out of Valley with you. I have to ask why you were dragging that along when you didn't have MU ability anyway?

I tried the slug last night on a DE2. Was quite impressed with the pulling power from that engine. The only downside was I almost ran out of fuel because I was max throttle most of the time. I've learned to disconnect the MU cable from the slug on flat track so I could go faster and use less fuel. Then if i need to climb, just reconnect the MU cable.
