Thankyou for this video. Sadly Seiko have discontinued the Pulsar brand now and elevated the Alba brand in place of it. Pulsar was a very popular brand indeed, displayed prominently in the shop fronts everywhere. Pulsar offered exceptional value. I am saddened by its disappearance. Perhaps it may reappear again in the future.

Don't become a 'watch snob', enjoy all watches. Quartz is more practical. Mechanical is fun and classic.

It is no different from a battery-powered watch. Capacitor replacement is required every 6 years (I have a Seiko Kinetic) and this replacement process is very very expensive. Get either an automatic or quartz watch, that's all... Mechanical or automatic watches can work for more than 20 years even without any maintenance. Then, after a short maintenance, another 20+ years... Before taking a watch for maintenance, check to see if it keeps good time. If it keeps good time, I don't take it for maintenance. After all, the money spent on maintenance is the same regardless of the condition of the watch...

The prices of mechanical watches are constantly increased by fake and fraudulent methods.

I have a AP Royal oak with kinetic movement it's been in a drawer for the past 4 years I started wearing it a few days ago it works fine on my wrist but it's dead when I wake up each morning I presumed the capacitor was toast but I've recently been told i need to wear it everyday for around 3 weeks and it should start holding its charge better I'm abit dubious has anyone any experience with this advice would be much appreciated

This is good, the world of horology could do with more quartz movements in higher end watches. I want the option and it shouldn't always be seen as the cheaper option. I would happily upgrade from a simple mechanical movement to a high accuracy, thermocompensated quartz movement. The only mecaquartz movement I've ever experienced and seen in person is a Seiko. I like it a lot!

What about Mathieu Tissot? He used to advertise them and give them as gifts to his friends as tokens for free concerts.

Today, I just came into possession on a Waltham pocket watch. It has been in the family and I vaguely knew about it. Along with the watch itself came the story of its history - which was all new to me! The watch was a retirement gift to my grandfather from Col. Samuel McLaughlin, the founder of General Motors Canada. Sam and my grandfather, Fred, had been childhood friends in Tyrone, Ontario, which was home to the McLaughlin carriage works. As young men, they both worked there, with Sam working on the carrages and Fred doing the upholstery. When Sam moved operations to Oshawa to build McLaughlin-Buicks, he brought Fred with him as his upholsterer. The watch wasn't working and had a recent valuation of a mere ten dollars! Once I got it home, I opened it up and sprayed a little WD40 into it. Damned if it didn't spring to life after many decades of being wound-up and siezed!

My problem with mechanical watches is that you need to pay thousands to get a respectable, reliable and an accurate movement that will last a long time compared to cheaper options. Not a lot of people can afford paying such prices which makes quartz watches much more appreciated.

My dad wears one…they’re as tough and long-lasting as I’ve ever seen,got his a year after I got my Speedmaster. Spring broke in my watch after over 16 years but his is still going. Amazing timepiece.
