Power Apps Cascading Dropdown Hyperlink from Excel
Transform your Power Apps experience by mastering cascading dropdowns with hyperlinks sourced from an Excel file! This comprehensive tutorial is designed to enhance your app's functionality, making data selection more dynamic and user-friendly. If you’ve created cascading dropdowns and want to eventually link out to a website, you can hardcode those into the dropdown control. That’s okay when you have a few selections, but if you’ve got a lot, it’s better to have the URLs in Excel or a SharePoint List. In this video you'll learn to integrate Excel hyperlinks, ensuring each dropdown adapts based on previous selections. I’ll also cover some bonus tips!

11 years later: Still an issue with Excel and still a perfect workaround. Thanks!
Thanks a lot
Most welcome
Great tip 👌
Glad you think so!
You are dam good! I checked your video, and at first it seems that it was not relevant for me. Next day, I again came here to check what you are saying and yeeeaaaah, it worked!!! I can't get my answer with ChatGPT and Google AI. But this video does. God bless you brother.
Hi Doug, I have a list of keyword would like to search in the table, how can I modify the "keyword" query to show that? Currently, only allow to search one value.
Thanks Doug. Could you please present more details how you open the Power query editor at about 4:40? When I followed your video to that step, I clicked the "From Table/Range", then a window pop-up "create table" and ask "where is the data for your table?", I can not see a Power query editor of table 3 as you showed pop up. Thank you.
Thank you
You're welcome!
Perfectly explained! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks. this helped.
This is almost like the filter function
Excellent tutorial. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you
Welcome!
Will filters in my main data sheet affect my pivot tables made from that sheet?
Thanks 🙏
It works for one row - how do I get it to change all the values like you did - press CTRL - and something - couldn't make it out on the audio? Thanks so much - great video!
should be CTRL+Enter keyboard shortcut
Bravo! bro, you're very kind
Thank you kindly!
Is it possible to add a 4 variable. So the I want to add a header to each line of data you have shown. So it will have an additional column which will have words displayed. so each bubble will be a different color to represent each header. Is this possible? Thanks
That worked well, thanks man! Liked.
Glad it helped!
Its absolute magic !! ❤
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Helpful, but not very practical since any change in values or hyperlinks would require going in and modifying your code. I think your suggestion of linking to a list in SharePoint or Excel is far more practical and hope you can do a video on that soon! Thanks.
Yes, you are right; and more to come later 😀
Thank you, you just saved me a lot of work
Thanks for this video!!I am trying to split some values but am not sure how to do it. Could you please help me out? The data I am trying to split is separated by a comma with no extra characters. However, as there are values with commas and spaces which should not be separated, when I use the formula --> split(A1,",",) , it is splitting every single content separated by a comma. Row 1: Monday,Tuesday and Wednesday --> total of 2 values Row 2: Monday,Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday --> total of 2 values Ideally, it'd look like this: Row 1: Monday Row 2: Tuesday and Wednesday Row 3: Monday Row 4: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
It does not clarify that any data refresh or filter change will wipe out any formatting😭. Also does not allow pivot table formatting based on text.
Gracias Doug! Vine aquí desde el libro de Steve Wexler
🤩 ¡Gracias por el comentario y por informarme!
Amazingly helpful! thanks
This helped so much. Thank you!!
Hi Doug, Great video! Is it possible to add a condition where it looks for that exact word. For example, if I wanted to the pull the word "Hit" out of three columns, it currently brings back words which have that word within it i.e. "White"
Great content! Hat about an horizontal line? I guess It works in a similar way ;-)
Don't have the same excel view as you and you're going too fast through the steps. Thanks for trying though!
Sorry about that😓
fantastic! I needed to "find" the pivot table wizard as I'm using a recent version of excel but was able to add it to the ribbon and take it from there. problem solved, thanks so much!
Fantastic!
Thanks- exactly what i was looking for. For accounting folks, this is so handy to create journal entries- classic example where you need the header keys. Much appreciated ❤
Show Invalid URL, how to overrule?
I so appreciate your tutorials! Well done and what a brilliant solution for creating free dynamic QR codes! Question: Is it possible to redirect an existing, static QR Code? I have one that printed on a huge batch of business cards. Unfortunately, it leads to the wrong url destination. Thanks in advance!
It depends...if the destination URL is from a provider that permits, a redirect may be configured [either a Permanent (301) or Temporary (302)]. This would be something you'd need to inquire to the hosting provider with.
fantastic. i was doing this for last 1-2 week thinking whether its a good practice or not, this video gave me positive feedback. thanks a lot.
Keep it up!
Thank you Sir. It was a good explanation.
You are welcome!
When I used this, it caused my text to appear for every time it showed in the table.
This is what i looking for.
Thank you
Assistance Needed with Power Query Error I have a folder named BankStatPDF that contains one Excel file named ConsolBS and two PDF bank statements named BankStatementMay and BankStatementJune. I transformed the BankStatementJune PDF file using Power Query in the ConsolBS worksheet, and it worked perfectly. However, when I changed the source file from BankStatementJune to BankStatementMay, I encountered the following error: Expression.Error: The key didn't match any rows in the table. Details: Key= Id=Table001 Table=[Table] Note: The PDF file BankStatementJune has 9 pages, so it was converted into 7 tables in Power Query. The PDF file BankStatementMay has only 3 pages. The format and bank statement details are the same for both files, and they are from the same bank. The Power Query editor has created 7 query tables of these 9 pages for BankStatementJune. I appended them into a new query named "Statement," so I now have a total of 8 queries. All of these 7 query tables showing the same error except the "Statement" query, which displays: An error occurred in the ‘Table001 (Page 2)’ query. Expression.Error: The key didn't match any rows in the table. Details: Key= Id=Table001 Table=[Table] Please guide me on how to fix this error. Note: The PDF file BankStatementJune is used to transform data in power query that has 9pages so it converted into 7tables. The PDF file BankStatementMay have only 3pages. rest the format and bank statement are same and of one bank. Thank you for your assistance.
Great explanation, thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very good. Thank you. I usually need passwords to be of different lengths. It's a struggle to find guidance online about how to have Excel generate passwords of varying length. I want to enter a number into a cell and have Excel generate a password with that number of random characters. This seems fundamental to a random-password generator, yet it appears that, while people have different ways to create the same thing with the same functions, none includes a way to set the number of characters, which will vary from use to use. It's also desirable to have options that determine whether or not the password should include at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, one special character or one number. For example, not all passwords are required to have a special character, and I would prefer not to use them if not required.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Very well explained, thank you.
Glad you liked it!
Very helpful, thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
I don't know if there are other workarounds now, seeing as this vid is 3 years old, but you've just made my day too. I looked at Sharepoint's Image Maps but they cost a fortune and it's functionality that should be easily available! This is a great tip and I'll be working on my clickable PPTX links straight away! Thanks soo much.
Hello! What if the column A numbers are based on a formula. How do you copy formulated values to a different column to just values without the formula? Thanks!
What's the use of "add this data to the data model"?
You are brilliant man !! Kudos !!
Thank you! Cheers!
