Law enforcement no longer honors our right to peacefully protest because they are puppets doing what they’re told to do. Their jobs are on the line, and their ability to feel compassion, consider fairness, and stand up against inequality has gone in most cases.

The change in awareness, let alone in the world, is going so, so, ever so slow though. It is good that there are people like Rev. Billy keeping spirits up, because, man, it's hard.

Opposing empire. That's what those stories of Jesus were about. The whole riding in on a donkey was creative opposition to soldiers doing their display of empire elsewhere.

I live in a small, rural, (hyper) religious, conservative community. I've tried organizing events, gatherings, trying to incorporate art and learning and opportunity to get to know one another more but it's really, really difficult in places like this (I've lived in about 3 areas similar to my hometown). I have a different ideology and mindset than most people here, on top of people dont really do anything here. They might come to one or two things but there is nothing sustainable. I've tried creating open mic comedy shows, film nights, political organizing...but it's hard when you're a progressive minded person in a very right leaning environment. Not that I try and make things political (except for that time I campaigned for Bernie Sanders, which, is very difficult in a red state) but it's hard because I feel like I cant be myself. And when you're hoping to bring people together and have them coming back, its gets a little stressful. A little uncomfortable. Eggshell walking. Maybe one day I could join the Stop Shopping Choir, learn from the best, and then bring my skills back to this little ol' town of 600. They might not know it but I believe they crave community and art and cultural exchange that isnt the same tried and true events year after year. The watermelon parade is lovely, the fall festival at the high school is nice, but there's also room for newness. I think they deserve it and I think they might like it if they tried. If not them then their kids sure would. I want to sharpen my skills so I can create and build something inspiring for the young ones in my community. Rev Billy, if yall could ever use another member, I'd make my way to NY by the end of the month.
