I want to come to Arizona so I can collect some petrified wood, and any of the other myriad of other beautiful minerals that I can lay my hands on. ❤
So much fun seeing you creating such beautiful art.❤
I really appreciate the effort you make to educate us. ❤
I found petrified wood digging out my foundation in Denver Colorado Sloanslake neighborhood. The Wigwam Motel there iconic looks like a pretty area drove through there 25 years ago on a road trip
@@DouglasRichardson-er4ky oh cool! I love finding fun rocks in my own yard 😊
Where in Camp Verde can one rock hound
@@ChristineNossoughi-fm5lu forest service land is the most accessible. You just have to look out for private claim markers. The salt mine and then farther down salt mine rd there are agates.
Glad to see you outside and smiling. Remember to take a little me time every day. ❤
Congratulations! Life gets different when you become a Mother; but you will settle into a routine and life will become a little more predictable. I just found your channel today, so I will really look forward to your videos when you’re able to do them.
@@raygay3375 thank you!! The little bean is walking now so it won’t be long before she can come hound with me. 😊
I’m nursing an injury to my hand that has me sidelined from rock hounding. Thanks for letting me tag along with you today. I really like your attitude about what makes any rock worthwhile. If you like a rock, then it’s worthwhile to you. ❤❤❤
@@raygay3375 I hope your hand gets better soon!
Aren't you afraid of a collapse in those holes??
@@Joyce-bb7et oh no, they aren’t big enough for there to be a safety issue.
@@RocksForBrains Oh, Thank goodness. I told my husband that I want to get back into rock hounding. We used to do it and cut the cabs and use it in our silver jewelry.
@@Joyce-bb7et I hope you can. 😊
Long ago, after you got your flap lap, I watched your videos and ordered my own. It seemed cumbersome and I sold everything I had put together for it…regretted and then recently bought it all back (buyer never used it)…have set it all back up, watched a ton of videos and NOW I’m eager to really put it to use, all thanks to you. My g-son and I love your hunting videos too! Blessings…
Thank you! I’m eager to get back into my workshop and out collecting at some point. 😊
Well 7 months later this video shows up in my feed. Very nice to see your content, your adventure. Thank you for sharing. Hope you & baby girl is doing amazing? 😊
@@SissyMchill1 Ha, yeah I barely have time to think about rocks right now let alone go look for them lol. She’s doing very well thank you. 😊
Those pieces are so small. It's ok we don't want the area inodiated with visitors. We'll keep the big pieces to our selves.
@@lostvisitor I don’t understand your comment. I usually don’t pick up really big things when I have to carry them out a good distance. And small things are easier to work with.
@@RocksForBrains I'm in a family of rock hounds and we tend to bring home big chunks to decorate our yard with. Weight and distance is part of the challenge. I have also seen the wonderful place where I live get utterly destroyed by week end invaders with their portable houses and off road noise machines. Too many of them are moving here. So I keep what I find a secret for me and my family.
@@lostvisitor ok that’s fine. This area is a private claim and the owners also do their own videos so I do t think there’s a risk of that. I also didn’t share the location.
@@RocksForBrains Should not show so much of the mountains in the back ground then. ☺
Thank you for taking me back to years gone by.
You are correct about ants brining things to the surface. I’ve picked up (small) peridot and garnets from ant hills in New Mexico. Your videos are very informative. Thank you for posting them.
@@stonearches2883 thanks for watching! I am not sure when I’ll be able to make more videos but I really want to. 😊

Petrified wood is a fossil of an ancient tree and thus protected on federal lands. Be careful where you hunt!
Good agates ! To far for arizona pet. Wood for me but only 500 km to queensland agate creek to fossick for banded agate .
@@joeflere8236 nice! I’ve seen videos of agates from creeks out that way and they’re really cool. 😊
If I wasn't living so far away , nord eastern🎉Australia, I would love to get some of this amazing pet. Wood .
Thank you for the adventure. This reminded me of my first trip to B.C. . Road was washed out to the good stuff. Didn't find much but white agate. With nice patterns. The layers of ash and rock may be pyroclastic flows. The green stuff may be high pyroxine ejecta. Seems there was a lava cap on the hill behind you. You mentioned magnesite the rock you chipped nearly fits that description. Good luck .
At 4:38 that was a fossil when the dinosaurs walked on it. Is it a marine fossil?
That’s what I think yeah. The rounded rocks in conglomerates within the Chinle formation originated as Permian rocks from inland seas.
You sound like me when I collect rocks. Thank you for being selective and not hauling away everything you find. The tiny candy rocks i like to tumble and drill for beads.
I was in Arizona in latter 1960's, but not in petrified wood locations. Was in greater Phoenix; only got to a rock shop, Hodson's, where there were large sections of awesome Rainbow petrifled wood in large rectangular fish tanks filled with water. Had never seen anything like this before. Might have read an article on this type of petrified wood in The Lapidary Journal, c. 1967/1968. Enjoyed this video. Keep on hunting rocks & making videos. Its' the only way I hunt these days.
Old Disabled House Bound Dusty Rusty Rockhound here: I've been there several times over the years. It's really fun and satisfying rockhounding in that area! Keeping an eye on the weather and taking proper emergency prepping for desert conditions survival a must.
Family comes first.
Do you have any GPS Coordinates to the area you parked? By chance.
These are the directions I used. It’s pretty easy to get to. www.treasurenet.com/threads/petrified-wood-at-woodruff-az.592071/
I am so glad to see another video from you!! I know you had a little outcrop (baby), so you have a good excuse but I still miss your adventures. Stay awesome and take care of yourself (and that tiny rockhound).
Thank you!! It’s been really difficult to find time to do anything other than work, errands, and baby care when your other half has different days off. 😕🤷🏼♀️
To bad you didnt show us the woods cleaned off & wet. Then you can really see the beautiful colors. ✌️🇺🇸
Thanks for the nice video, content, and information! 🙏 A tip that might help you going forward to help you work smarter, not harder with your hammer: hold the hammer at the bottom of the handle. This will create more force on impact with the chisel. This is why hammers have long handles. They're not meant to be held up by the head. I hope this helps you get more bang for your buck! 😅
Congrats xx
Youd love my petrified would collection i even have some with claw marks on them and some decent color to them as well
I want to visit here, from Ohio, need map.

How much further time and mile wise is the opal? Cuz I made it to that spot u we’re at (I think) I was just past the creek few more miles. Clay wall looked familiar. On my book it said that was the opal spot- but people later told me it’s pastilite. So I’m wondering if u know how much further the opal is cuz my map look close but u know it’s always seems much longer…it is truly a wonderland, looks like it was professionally landscaped huh! And best Easter egg hunt for rock rounders ever! I’m heading back up tomorrow! Hope to make it further out this time with 4wd!
I did find a little dendritic common opal in that area.

Where we found the purple is the same spot I found a little bit of dendritic common opal. It’s not going to be like opals from Australia or Ethiopia. It’s just solid color.
Nice! U just convinced me to broaden the types of stones I use
Is this for a job? Cause i want this job.
No this is just for fun. But my job does involve going outside and hiking a lot. 😊
This winter I was on 40 acres of a friend’s land that had mounds of the rainbow petrified wood showing. I brought some larger pieces back with me to Lake Havasu. I left many many many smaller pieces there. It felt like it was an old forest being exposed. I am a neophyte so I could just be making stuff up lol. I kept saying to my friend I’m sure this is petrified wood, but I’ve never seen petrified wood this colorful. Are used to go hunting petrified wood with my parents up by Zion, and that would look totally different . A found wood with the Cambian layer, but I also found a larger piece and when I say larger football basketball size that I swear as bark. I’m 80% sure of what I have. Would you be interested in a video call to look at what I have and possibly going to the location.
If it’s in AZ it’s probably petrified wood lol. You can certainly email me a photo of the piece you think has bark on it. I might not be able to tell either way but I’d love to see it. If you send me a google maps pin of the location I can help you narrow down the possibilities of what’s out there. 😊
@@RocksForBrains where do I find your email?
@@janlovig3371 oh sorry. It’s in the about section but it’s rocksforbrainschannel@gmail.com
New to your channel 😊 very awesome, wife and I was just at the petrified forest last month, didn't realize how much history there is, wow learning a lot , thankyou and be safe out there 👋
I was told it was illegal to take petrified wood from Arizona. So I was told wrong?
Well it depends on where you are. You certainly can’t collect it from the national park but it’s all over the state and if you’re on USFS or BLM land, or someone’s private land that they let you collect on, then you can. USFS and blm have some restrictions though in how much you can take.
Great Job!!
Most excellent!
where do you get the blanks
Oh from Etsy. www.etsy.com/listing/752262871/

AZ Rockhounding expeditions have a channel look them up. They are awesome 👏🏻 sorry, idk how to tag on YT. They did comment on this video.

Why? I was perfectly capable and I was having fun.
congrats on the little one. what a wonderful trip you will have. can you tell me a location from dry beaver creek to scamp verde that would be fun for 2 newbys in their 80'' s with some wornout body parts. no hills. been married 62 years and still enjoy getting out together. good health to you and your family.
I’m sorry I’m not too familiar with that area. If you want to drive a little north you can easily find some obsidian west of flagstaff at Obsidian Tank.
Just found your vid on Roku CZcams. Congratulations on a video with brains! I scrolled through a couple of rockhounding YT vids made by guys who've never made a video before, and didn't know much about rockhounding or geology. Have read about Burro Creek, but never been there. A little more research would have helped the filming. Enjoyed the views of the tuff layer. Was happy to see you using chisel and 3 pound hammer to remove pieces. So many YT vids show collecting with tools like carpenter hammers and screw drivers. Keep up the good work.
Thank you! 😊
