Andys Video - Aircraft & Vehicle Recovery
United Kingdom
Registrace 6. 08. 2007
I am lucky enough to have spent most of my life in the Vehicle Recovery Industry, but unlike most, somehow 'stumbled' into Aircraft Recovery as well! Occasionally I managed to find time to video a 'little bit' of this work. I joined the Volunteers at Brooklands Museum, back in 1986. Now in retirement I am still there and so have the chance to make more professional recordings of events that I can share with you.
The subjects range from Aircraft to Trucks and Glamour to Recovery. Locations range from Brooklands to Utah and Arizona to Weybridge. There is some humour, like the video we did for Julian's wedding. A lot of items, are of some historical interest and most are very unique.
Warning - A few modern Recovery Operators may look at the way we did things 'back then' and think "what about health and safety?" the answer is simple, there was none and even I admit it looks a little scary now! Anyway Please 'Like if you enjoy something and Subscribe to know about updates

PROFCon 2024 Part Two - Perivale Car Pound Fire and Statutory Fee Update
This is the second presentation from PROFCom 24 given first by Matthew Wilkinson Operations Manager (Policy and Compliance) Vehicle Recovery & Examination Services (VRES) of the Metropolitan Police Service on Statutory Fee.
This was followed by a report on the devastating Fire that took place at the Perivale Car Pound when an 'E' Scooter caught fire. This was given by Mick Burke Interim Operations Manager of Vehicle Recovery & Examination Services (VRES) Metropolitan Police Service and caused some deep thinking amongst the gathered Recovery Operatives.

Great video thanks for sharing and on such a beautiful day 🌞🌊
Glad you enjoyed it it was one of those rare days we get on occasions.
A great tribute to both Pete ang Gary great skills needed and Echo Papa back home. RIP Pete.
Two lovely guys
A fantastic video documentary. How sad that we get so excited about Saxon, Roman , Norman relics but we can't preserve such an icon of British motor engineering history without building commercial premises on it. Well done to all the volunteers for providing, to my mind, the best example of what made Britain, Great Britain.
Thank you Andy and sadily what you say is so true, but in Brooklands case we did have a small amount of success.
"One can only guess what the 747 pax thought........ i dont think they thought anything whatsoever.
Southfields was my home for 34 years. Many happy memories 😊
Glad you enjoyed the video, I only did 24 years from 46 / 68, but looking at it today, I am relived I live out of London
احلم ازور هذا المكان❤
I used to go down these as a kid around 1989 just before the Vickers factory got bulldozed
That must have been Creepy?
It was exciting, 15 and fearless. There were other underground bunkers in the car park area too. And a big hanger were the gym now stands. I recently joined as a member which is what reminded me all about them. Great video.
Great Video as always and the new camera has great clarity and colour👌
Thanks Colin, it will be even better now I have a Wind Muffler for the microphone
Looks different when I toured the last open day in 1986
Wow I did not realize it was such a big site…..
Very much so. Also have a look at www.andysvideo.com as there are a couple more videos if you have not seen them.
Very excited to see Larry back riding 7-Mary-3. ❤
Lived there in 1962/3
Didn’t Kepler Aerospace in Midland Tx purchase this aircraft and then apply for a U.S. registration approval by the FAA?
Yes but it all went pear shaped more info on Goggle
@@AndysVideo don’t know about you, but it seems pretty different to find any new information on this
@@DeadChan67 There has been a lot speculation I have heard (unconfirmed) - I do know a bit more but cannot discuss it. You might try looking abroad.
Nobody had a private VC10 to fly off in??
Fascinating stuff, looking forward to seeing the C172 get out! I pondered if any of the DH moth aircraft were restored by the late Cliff Lovell🤔🤔💜
so true.
投稿感謝!!!ビカースビミーが飛んでる動画を始めて見ました。
For that NASCAR and Indy are better than F1
Looks like a sweet flying plane. So nice to see this huge antique design take to the air in such a graceful way. Keep the originals in the museums and fly the snot out of the replicas.
The only time I've ever flown (prefer motorcycles and cars) was 1966 when I was five years old. The aeroplane was a Vickers Viscount flying with British Eagle, I believe they got swallowed up in the BOAC, BEA amalgamation into British Airways? We flew from Saint Mawgan in Cornwall to what was then Speke in Liverpool. I recall the pilot on the Tannoy advising us to fasten seatbelts as we may hit 'an airpocket'. There was some turbulence! I remember the cabin falling silent but at five years old it was a roller-coaster ride! So vivid memories, nearly sixty years later, of the Viscount.
Lovely memoirs thanks for sharing them The Viscount always was special with those huge windows and those soft sounding Dart engines. You probably did not appreciate at that age, but I can imaging flying along the Cornish Coast, looking at the scenery below, would have been a very special experience.
@@AndysVideo My Mum spent years as a singer in Army bases around the Commonwealth. She'd flown in a Viscount before and told me 'just look out of the window and you'll never know when you leave the ground.' She was right. She also spent many flights in C-47s' and said they were the most uncomfortable aeroplane ever!
@@AndysVideo Yes indeed, looking over the Bristol Channel, blue sea, white surf, golden sands..
This aircraft once flew with BKS (AT Ltd). I have in my possession the registration name plate of this very aircraft. (Removed after being sold on.)
He’s certainly come a long way from his little workshop at Barwell Court in the 1960’s.
Indeed he did and achieved a huge amount along the way Veronica
I live on Chicago and the LAPD were always Americas’s police force-classic!
Why on earth was it built over?
It was largely done by Vickers during the war years based on the fact there was a war on and the track made a good base for buildings without the need to lay foundations. This effectively stopped motor racing coming back to Brooklands after the war and of course the rest is history.
Keep yer eyes out for my white 56 Mercury ambulance "SEARCH ND RESCUE" bringing up the rear -- [ there were a number of problems with these old cars -- as many of them were NOT "daily drivers" and generators, alternators and batteries were put to the TEST with all the lights and sirens and horns ] My Merc, and her tools, and my expertise came in handy to keep things moving --- :) It WAS fun helpin out back then :)
It was great to have been part of it.

Well just sat amazed for the last two hours. I was at Elliott from 1961-1966. I became a scientist! Sadly no more ‘Pirates’ in the new gym. Great Drone photography. I’ve just purchased one but yet to get it out the box! Thank you for the memories. Jackie Barley was Hall. 10:57
Hi Jackie and thanks for the kind words. First of all you can find a whole Elliott playlist at www.andysvideo.com/#elliott where you can see a lot more. I was there from 1958 until 63 so we no doubt passed in the corridors :-) lastly I expect you know but in case you don't I also built an Elliott website at www.elliottonians.com/ which will take more than a couple of hours to wade through. Andy
I loved them !
wow what a guy, what a crew, what a great achievement, well done and thanks for sharing it.
Glad you enjoyed it
A lot of restorationists forgot that all emergency vehicles in California are required to have 1 steady red minimum.
Love the engine noise. Remember flying in one to Spain in the late 1950s
As you say a unique sound. You can see a lot more about Viscounts in the viscount play list at www.andysvideo.com
Fantastic to see Parry Thomas still held in such high regard as my family here in New Zealand own one of the few or maybe the only remaining Parry Thomas Specials still in existence. Handed down from my late grandfather Ron Roycroft collection 1923 1.1lite Hooker-Thomas engined Special restored by my Uncle. Just to name a couple of other thoroughbreds Grandad owned and raced were the legendary Nuvolari 1935 Geman GP winning P3 Alfa Romeo and Gonzalez 1951 Silverstone GP winning 375 Ferrari an awful lot of thoroughbred race cars ended up in New Zealand and Grandad owned many over the years. Only two in our family left are the Parry Thomas Special and a 1925 Type 35a Bugatti. The Special is on the market for realistic buyers.
I was working on the electrical sub station enlargements at New Haw and the unmistakable sound of the Lancaster started up and took off right overhead unforgettable site, I guess it is very likely the one that we still see at fly passes because even in the 1960's there weren't many left. Sorry, no pictures, us construction workers those days didn't walk around with cameras.
Fair Point 🙂
Also saw a Lancaster bomber fly out of Brooklands having been serviced, that must have been 1965 or 6.
Never heard of that before I will pass it on. Don't suppose you got a photo?
Once upon a time, you could drive along the old A3 and see the VC10 tails above the greenery at Wisley airdrome
When I lived in Send in the late eighties a neighbours used to talk about the Valiants taking of and going over the A3 blowing them off their push bikes, but I think they may have exaggerated a bit!
I was always told that the VC10 could only take of from Brooklands but not return due to it needing a longer runway which is why they were stored at Wisley, am I mistaken?
If you are mistaken then so am I as that was what I was also told. They could fly out because they were not finished and went to Wisley to have the interior etc. fitted.

Another great video of the Fly-In at Brooklands, well done Andy, Martin and John. Colin
My Auntie raced at Brooklands and had her wake there. I missed her funeral but she was the only family member who understood my motorsport activities. Mercedes club held a meeting at Brooklands last year so I had my first visit. I spent three days just remembering all those pioneers. We were on the Railway straight for our club meeting. I walked the banking. It’s thanks to Brooklands museum and to Mercedes there are still actual areas of this iconic venue, not only for racing but for building the Wellington bomber. The UK is such a small landmass we are likely to destroy all historic venues in search of “progress.” Thank you to those who are determined to fight the self destruction of the UK.
Great to hear from you and it is always good to hear that some people appreciate the work done by many of us in keeping the place alive. Thanks from all the volunteers including myself. Andy
Great to see this tribute to Alcock & Brown 👍
I would love to see Brooklands restored, but sadly, it's not going to happen. Whoever composed the music to the video got it spot on. It's worth watching the video, just to listen to the music alone. I love this video, I will be watching it over and over again. It should have been made a national monument, but I'm glad to hear that Historic England and the Heritage At Risk register have got what's left, protected. I hope it's around for a good long time yet
