Fireplace reconstruction

This is not intended as an instructional video. It just documents my project of opening up an old fireplace which had been previously blocked up for use with a 70's gas fire. The project was to open up the fireplace for decorative purposes and install a lintel for security. The fireplace was later rendered and painted internally and the walls plastered. Several people have requested an update o...

My tank needs replacing and I'm getting ready to do it but now my mechanic has come to say i should remember to do the bleeding. I dont know what that is and he wouldn't say. None of the videos talks about bleeding. Is there anything like that or is my mechanic trying to make me bring it to him to do it and bill me bad as he likes to. I don't want his heart aching bill but still dont wanna spoil my car.
I must start by stressing that I am not a car mechanic, so I am giving this information in good faith based on my own "DIY" experience. Changing the expansion tank as shown in the video should not introduce any significant amount of air into the system. If any air does enter the hoses, it's usually possible to eject it back into the expansion tank with a couple of squeezes of the hose once reconnected. With the engine running, coolant is pumped around the system back into the expansion tank and my understading is that, as the expansion tank is at the highest point of the cooling system, any air should naturally find its way into the tank where it can be vented off by releasing the tank cap. There are videos on CZcams showing how to bleed the cooling system which are little more than running the engine until the fan comes on and then, once cooled down, opening the expansion tank and topping up as necessary. Hope this helps.
Take the old one out, fit a new one. 👍
Hey any chance you still have those plans?
GOOD VIDEO, VERY WELL EXPLAINED 👍
Hello is there not a sensor on bottom of these like the 1.4 astra of the same year
There wasn't a sensor on mine, perhaps it's dependent on the model variant.
Very well presented
My Vauxhall dealer told me I have a leak on the tank and it will need replacing. I've looked at it and can't see or feel any damp and don't seem to be losing any coolant. They quoted £164 , they reduced it to £120 when I said it was too much. Think I'll do it myself as I've seen tanks for sale on the internet for about £20
Thanks Mike. Have you ever come across the Power button's red light being completely dead. Tape and CD function will actually operate, but the Power Amp, Power button, Speakers, etc. are all completely toast.
Sorry, no I've not encountered that.
@@Ap01101969 The standby signal is only 4.9 Volts, not the 6.7 shown in your video. The standby signal is 0V before I press play on the Tape or CD. Does this mean the PSU is not putting out enough?
Excellent video and tips - particularly about removing the body panel cover studs. Not great with cars but changed my split tank in 30 minutes.
man, you have soldered blak-red wire on terminals of super capacitor C810 0.1F, so if power falls, the super capacitor C810 drain faster with additional current consumption of BT module and so you lose out faster the FM stations; or I am wrong ?
If are losing water and theirs no water in the oil it’s the tank .I have changed three two on Astra’s and a insignia.very common vault
Hi can I join you when my plane is ready Richard
Hi Richard, sorry, I no longer live (or fly) in the area
It doesnt have a coolant level sensor?
No, mine didn't have a sensor
Brilliant video, thank you!! Did you find any air pockets with your change? My coolant has gone down a little bit since doing the same as this video - does the air work it’s way out driving normally even with the cap on?
Thank you. The coolant will get pumped round the circuit whilst the engine is running, so I would expect any air to find its way into the expansion tank quite quickly. Make sure you top it up if needed.
Top notch work, mate. I learned a lot, thank you
What a brilliant video helped me alot I've ordered a new coolent tank as was on a 2 hours journey away from home and I've noticed my tank has a crack and steam is actually coming through this crack 😳🤣
Зачем включать блютуз от стэйнбай?Он фонит на тюнер.Нужно запускать от аух.
Thanks, great video , really useful, I just replaced it , easy to do
No back LED, yes front LED.
I think this may be a common issue, as I have discovered many fractures in the underside of my tank, slowly losing coolant. I dont suppose you have a video on removing the rear spoiler to replace the washer jet???
*Nice* 👍
Did you need to bleed the system after ? thanks
No, I didn't find it necessary. If a little air did get into the system, it would soon find its way into the tank.
@@Ap01101969 did you find any air got into your system when you did this? I did mine last week and my coolant has gone down a tiny bit since this
Where did you buy the tank? What is your reference? Thanks
It was part number 95380033 from Leader Specialist Components
Have you a link for the parts please
I got my parts from shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk
Why have you only removed the plaster from about 3 foot off the walls
It was to allow for the injection of a chemical damp proof treatment into the brickwork
Thank you for the detailed information below, however before fitting this switch circuit to my sony cmt-cp505md my schematic shows a different configuration, with only upto 5v rather than 6.9v. Will the same transistors and resistor values still work? The L and R standby circuit also doesn't seem to be identical either. As this hifi has a digital and optical line in (with the MD built in) to avoid DRM, I'm intending to hook into analog line in instead. Many thanks in advance. Tim.
Hi Tim, I'm not familiar with your model of HiFI, but I would think the same value components should work. The resistor values are not critical, provided they drive the transistors into saturation. If you have any problems, you could always reduce the value of R1 by 1k or so, but I doubt this will be necessary.
Great video, really easy to follow. Done the job in less than half hour. Thank you.
great tutorial. i really want to have a go at making a similar style chair. this gives me the confidence to think i can pull it off. thank you.
Did that Victorian fireplace ever get used? Ie to burn 🔥?
No, both fireplaces were for decorative purposes only. To make them functional would have required the chimney breasts to be lined.
@@Ap01101969 why would you line a proper chimney? I have a open fire and just use as it was made to be used.
@@Chef2866 it's just what a builder advised me as, in a building of this age, the brickwork may not be particularly sound. Probably more of a precaution than a necessity.
Hi, great vid, very informative and useful, would this be classed as a complete coolant change? As mines needs done because the coolant is black lol.
Hi Dan, No, to replace all the coolant you will need to drain the radiator, either by disconnecting the bottom hose or undoing the drain plug if the radiator has one.
Is the crack visible and was you loosing alot of coolant
Yes, there was a definite crack on the underside of the tank, and it was losing a fair bit of coolant. It later transpired that I had a small leak in the radiator too so not sure how much loss was due to each.
I just found one of these in the street a few blocks over with a label on it saying, "perfectly working". I watched a chunk of your video on the street in the dark and it helped me to decide to bring the machine home.
Doing my wife's 1 tomorrow. Looks really easy. Thanks for the good video. 👍👊
Needs a voice over.. also.. why are you using posidrive on JIS screws? Odd..
Great video! I have a question tho...I asked my mechanic if I could change it myself and he said the coolant system needs be pressurised or something ( I am not an expert so I don't know if this is a thing ) . It will cost me around £40 with new coolant . On your video it looks like I can easily do it myself . Did you have to do anything extra after the tank was replaced ? Thanks in advance
I'm no mechanic, but not aware that the cooling system needs to be pressurised. Perhaps they meant it should be pressure tested when the tank is changed? The cap contains an integral pressure relief valve to prevent too much pressure building up in the system when hot.
So would you suggest going to the mechanic or should I do it myself and it will be fine?
@@soton1989 I'm sure if you do it yourself, it will be fine, but to be honest, if a mechanic can replace the tank and the coolant for £40, you're probably unlikely to save much by doing it yourself.
Thanks for the help, your video was very detailed. I upgraded the same Sony model to bluetooth, only with a different type of bluetooth module. Good luck finding this video on the net. Thanks again and RESPECT!
Very nicely and cleanly implemented. Great work.
What tank have you used here?
It's a LSC 95380033 from Leader Specialist Components
Nice video👍
I did this on the lg f1406tdsp6 around 2013 i'm doing it again this month on the actual same machine! a testament to the DD motor and control panel which have been faultless, I used SKF bearings last time around and will be doing so again along with a new tub seal AND new tub dampers. i just use the same tools on the tub bearings that I use to change my wheel bearings on the motorcycle. BTW impeccable work and filming. Bravo
Thank you for your kind words, and good luck!
also curios on the final board you have 4 resistors?
Ah yes, I decided to increase the value of R1 (by adding another in series) to minimise the current drawn from the STBY signal on the mainboard. It wasn't strictly necessary, but just a precaution as I didn't know how much current the STBY signal could provide. The resistor values are not critical, as long as they drive the transistors into saturation and make them switch on.
Why did you have to change the tank please
The old one had a small crack in it
@@Ap01101969 thanks for letting me know and thanks for video 😀👍🏼
What are the exact values of the resistors, i understand that 15K, 1k and 4m but does it matter in terms of % or MW, and could a 4.3M Ohm be used instead of 4M Ohm. Thank you.
Left to right... R1 = 15K, R2 = 4M and R3 = 1K.
I just use the rca socket you don’t need Bluetooth. It’s a gr8 stereo though and you can change the belts
Hi, mike could you send me a link to the wiring diagram I have to get someone to do the wiring, please.
Hi, I downloaded the manual from www.manualslib.com/manual/701033/Sony-Hcd-Cp1.html - it's the HCD-CP1 manual rather than the CMT-CP1, but the internals are much the same.
A pretty quiet video but really well done! $1400 for a new washer, $600 for a repairman to fix it or about $50 in parts and I try it. Based on your great video, I can do it!
But bluetooth is god awful for audio
Would be interested to know how you prepared the base for the poured concrete section of the hearth...also the room section with the brick surround sub-floor
Amazing to think that horrid 70s gas fireplace was ever fashionable. I actually kind of liked the look of "Fireplace 2" though.
Wow, this is exactly what I need.
Hi Mike. I have a very similar stereo (CP11) that maybe you can help me to find out something. Is better to disconnect the stereo off the electricity when is not in use? Or just turning it off is enough? Sorry that my question doesn't have anything to do with the video, but I'm wondering that because those are very old machines and I don't want something to burn out like a cap or something. Also, I'm dumb as a brick :(
Hi Loco, all I know is that the circuitry in the stereo is still "live" when it's in standby. Mine has lasted over 20 years on standby without a problem, but disconnecting from the mains will save electricity.
