CONGELIN CAMPGROUND WA - what really happens there at night?
Welcome to Congelin Campground, Western Australia - close to Perth... and home of invisible native animals, schoolboy horror stories and the very hub of non-stop camping fun.
Congeling is part of the Dryandra Woodland National Park and great for camping near Perth.
The campground has room for approximately 30 campers.
One small water tank is available for use but water supply and quality are not guaranteed so visitors should bring their own water.
The campground would be a great place to see Australian marsupials, or at least it would be if there actually were any.
Remember it is illegal to burn wood from trees... which is where most wood comes from.. or burn branches that may have fallen.
The invisible animals of Congelin depend on this wood so leave it where it is. Just don't touch it.
The trails are very flat indeed very easy to walk on. You could probably drag a tired old person along the ground back to the campground if you had to.
I keep checking these holes for small animals. Invisible animal holes are absolutely everywhere so there must be a lot of them here.. somewhere.
Next morning, bright and early, we're off on another walk. The animals must be awake by now, surely. But alas, no furry, early morning risers here.
There really is a lot to see around Congelin Campground, especially if you enjoy walking... and are not overly keen on marsupials.
Despite what I said earlier we love Congelin and we'll be back. and thanks for spending this exciting time with us... I'm sure you enjoyed it immensely and can't wait to subscribe.
See you in the next video.

    This is pretty funny mate. We were in the Gnaala Mia camp ground in 2023 and saw HEAPS of Woylies and there was even a brush tail possum with a puss filled eye socket where it's eye once was. And I saw my first scorpion there too. Was not much going on around here but definitely loved it!

    I remember going there once from the Margaret River side, the road in was the most hellish bunch of corrugations I have encountered anywhere. It used to be a bit of a bogan hang out with lots of rubbish and broken glass. Looks a bit more tidy in this video.

      @CampingWesternAustralia Před 10 dny

      Yes, most WikiCamps comments mention the bad road in from Margaret River…. We came in from there, but the road was very good. We only dropped in on the way home but it looks quite nice. We never go on weekends so hopefully we’ll avoid the bogans!

    We just came back from spending a month in Sydney, and this video captured the city's sight and must go to locations. There are, however, much, much more to see and experience. The food( one can taste the whole of Asia within a city block), the people (so many different coutures in harmony), the environmental preservation (both buildings and nature). The city is a must visit. Last but not least, the coffee, OMG, everyone there knows coffee.

      Last weekend. Barely a teacup. Lady in the info centre said although seasonal, it’s been dropping for years due to land development in the area upsetting the water table. I remember rowing boats on there years ago. Must have been pretty dry for a few years as the overgrowth is substantial.

    Wow, the campsite sure looks different now they have done it up. Used to be a big green oval. There was a rule that if you wanted to use a generator you could use it on the bitumen sites but not the others. I could never work out the logic of that one LOL Hopefully the Yanchep Inn still has great lunches, A long time since we went there.

    A quick technical word on March Flies (horse flies). There are a number of different types including smaller very quiet ones. The females that bite because they need the blood to develop their eggs. Males feed on flower nectar. Bees might not be after most of our food but watch out on very hot days if you have water about. They come around in swarms and just won't go away. Some people put a flat dish of water out a fair distance from camp to try and keep them away but that doesn't always work :)

  • @WesternAustraliaNowAndThen
    @WesternAustraliaNowAndThen Před 6 měsíci

    Here's a little ditty about flies and mozzies I wrote a few years back. Seems to fit well with the video's topics :) Tag Team It’s just before the sun comes up You sip upon your brew The chilly air will keep at bay The early morning crew But later as the day heats up You’re starting to salute That honoured Aussie swiping wave That gives the flies the boot And suddenly they’re everywhere They crawl around your eyes You try about just every trick To keep away those flies A hat with corks has given way To covering with mesh The Aeroguard you used to use No longer keeps you fresh They seem to know, those cursed flies When tasks will take both hands For when they do they gather round In massive swarming bands The bush flies aren’t the only ones That make you swear and curse The blue flies buzz around your head And March flies, even worse! You know there’s no escaping them When grey skies turn to blue But evening rolls around at last And then their reign is through But in the dusk you hear a sound A nasty high pitched whine The mozzies are all waking up Those lousy rotten swine You cover up with jeans and boots You light the mozzy coils You sit out in the balmy night And burn exotic oils The subtle nasty little sting You feel upon your leg While gathered round the barbeque Or leaning on the keg It tells you all your sprays and stuff Are having no effect So bites and stings are just the things You’re learning to expect And so the Summer tag team makes Your days a living hell And even in the evenings You will suffer on as well All Winter long you waited for The skies to turn to blue But you forgot the nasty things The tag team planed for you Popanyinning October 2005

    We rarely pick up ticks but the ones that have managed to hitch a ride were in the same area you picked them up. Well known tick spot around there. Considering the time we have spent in the bush, we have seen very few snakes but Belle did manage to step on a brown up at Cleaverville as it had chosen to have a rest just under a flap of canvas at the entry to our storage tent. Luckily the snake was as shocked as she was and took off at a rate of knots over the nearest sand dune. (We always have a snake bit kit with us these days). As for spiders, the only time I had an encounter with one was after I had finished drying myself with a towel after a shower. I went to hang the towel up and there in the middle was a nice big (somewhat dazed) spider. Now I shake my towels out before I dry myself with them :) We have more trouble with ants at home than we do when camping but Dorothy did stand on top of a meat ant nest recently whcih was quite entertaining - for me. She had the last laugh when I got nailed several times by a bull ant not long afterward.

    • @CampingWesternAustralia
      @CampingWesternAustralia Před 6 měsíci

      Thanks for the big comment. I have seen quite a few snakes about when camping actually but a lot more at Herdsman Lake. I stopped my bike and got off it less than a metre from a Tiger snake curled up in the grass at the edge of the path... didn't see him at all. Very slowly retreated then quickly departed!

  • @Ranger670
    @Ranger670 Před 6 měsíci

    Thank you for the reminder :) Herpetophiles will know that snakes and all reptiles are protected under the Nature Conservation Act of 2014 so let's not get all biblical on them please. Spiders are avoidable for alert bush walkers while ticks and mossies haven't been yet legislated against yet so it's open season on them for now. 😆
