    I remember one time you played against a bunch of people with fun crazy illegal long pips, maybe in the Philippines? I wonder if that rubber evolved in reaction to the humid climate?

  • @greenbeanmachine
    @greenbeanmachine Před 2 měsíci

    Can I ask why you use green rubber? and why do you use it on the forehand? How do you feel the green rubber compares to the red rubber? Don't most players use black on the forehand, since it's supposed to be slower and spinnier than colored rubber? The few pros I notice playing with black on the backhand seem to be backhand-dominant (e.g. Simon Gauzy, Alexis Lebrun)

      The color of rubber for non-tacky rubbers makes no difference at all. Rubbers of all colors are meticulously tested by manufacturers to ensure they have the same properties in all aspects of power, control, and spin. If a manufacture has different properties for colored rubbers than it is done intentionally. As far as I know, Andro maintains identical characteristics for their colored rubbers.

      Half long serve is after the ball hit the opponent’s table once, the 2nd hit (if the opponent lets the ball falls) is very close to the edge of the table. The reason he mentioned finger breaker is sometimes the opponent tries to attack that half long ball, they hit their finger against the table because it’s so close to the edge.

    I guess this is something lots of people have trouble with ... I actually am "rather good" with returning serves and placing my own serves even though my serves are rather easy to see trough. The only thing I have lots of problems with is if someone does topspin serves which doesn't happen a lot ... sometimes its really hard for me to see and if they are able to change between topspin and downspin with a similar motion I often just "choose" instead of know what to do. My friend has the problem that he can't read the spin very well and also he always stays very far away from the table hoping that the spin will be much less but if you just do a short serve even in doubles he just can't get close enough to return the serve anymore which makes me super angry each time I play doubles with him -.-V You really should either stay close enough to the table (I sometimes are too close and need to step back if my opponent does a fast long serve) or be ready to get a step in. Also even though this might be a "bad" tip, I for one used an Antitop when I started with table tennis as for me it was almost impossible to read the spin, if you use a classic Antitop you can still notice some spin but much less so you can take your time learning how to return some serves withouth making as much errors returning. Also many people are super pissed when you play with Anti or Pips XD

    • @kenji2787
      @kenji2787 Před 2 měsíci

      I don’t know who started this myth but it’s dumb as hell. Nobody is “pissed” playing against pips. For some that do, they’re the those rare people who get pissed playing against anyone better than them. people like to experience pips players because pips are kind of rare. however, it’s a common to get frustrated at oneself for messing up. Just look at the Lebrun brothers or Anders Lind. And Pips makes it easier to mess up. My uncle brought his pip to the club and every lined up to play him.

      @@kenji2787 Well when I played with my Anti most people in my club didn't want to play against me anymore 😅 and we also had like 2 players using long pips that also had trouble. Same in all the other clubs I have neen, especially the young players often don't like to play agains pips or anti and usually are like "I only lost because your shitty material" Had a "friend" that actually destroyed two of his rackets playing against me ... one when I was using Anti because he was so frustrated and one when I was just chopping and blocking as he got super enraged saying this isn't table tennis while loosing super high xD

    • @kenji2787
      @kenji2787 Před 2 měsíci

      I find it extremely difficult to believe unless nobody in your club wants to improve. There will be a point in their tournament, or even just a fun party tourny, where they meet a pip player. What are they going to do? “Cuss them to death?”

    • @XYoukaiX
      @XYoukaiX Před 2 měsíci

      @@kenji2787 not sure about your country but in Germany you almost never find anyone aged below 60 using pips or antitop anymore. Many gave up when the spinless pips were banned ... also most of the few remaining people using this kind of stuff usually play in the lowest leagues so if you manage to skip those you are good to go. I was lucky to skip them and only ever had to play like 1-2 people using pips each year and sometimes even 0. I also never liked playing against those but at some point I didn't care anymore as I don't have trouble against those if they only use it because they are bad without it... and if they are good and win they were just better

    Good as always. I'd want to add something, if you only need (like Adam calculated there) ~800$ a year, the easiest thing would be to go to your local newspaper or bank or stuff like that, sometimes even a bakery or whatsoever. If you tell them you go on lots of Tournaments and would like a small amount of Money only to get their logo on your sports wear there is a good chance that they will say okay like depending on how good you are and how much tournaments you visit its cheap enough for them to give you a few hundred bucks a year. Even better when you club also runs Tournaments every now and then you can ask for some more money and some banner you can put up in the gym for everyone to see. in my area the biggest sponsors for small tournaments are local banks and sometimes they also take single players but yeah if you are just starting to play and don't visit tournaments at all there is no way someone would want to pay even a few bucks ^^V

    I think the better answer to that question is that you shouldn't lob. You only lob if the point is already lost and you find yourself in a passive position away from the table. Most players aren't good at it because it's a very small percentage of their points, and those points are basically already lost. You should learn to play a proper game, that's what raises your level. If you play like Adam all you can do is mess with little children and adult beginners around 2000 USATT. Any higher than that and you're dead lost. Don't waste the time you have to play, learn to play properly, it's way more rewarding in the long run.

  • @alk672
    @alk672 Před 4 měsíci

    When conditions are not playable you just shrug your shoulders and try not to be invested into the result. It's not a serious game when the ball randomly falls off the racket depending if it hit a more or less wet spot. You can try to adapt and hit flatter, but then you aren't using what you practiced for, it's like preparing for a table tennis tournament with inverted rubber and then the big day comes and they tell you you have to play with sand paper. I wouldn't worry much about those losses, it's on the tournament organizers, not you.

    Thanks a lot Adam ! It's good to know that even professional / semi-professional players struggle. As much as I hate it I will probably need to train a lot to manage in these situations and try to stay focused. It's really hard not to get upset with myself and the environment when knowing it usually would work much better but yeah everyone needs to adapt even though for some its easier then for others. Funny enough I did play Anti for a few years and sometimes still do just for fun but its still a big difference having an Anti rubber on one side and shooting sometimes then using normal rubbers that feel almost like Anti when the air is wet.

  • @lots_of_numbers7580
    @lots_of_numbers7580 Před 5 měsíci

    In my opinion, competitive table tennis is largely about adaptation. Humidity is one factor, but there are many other problems that can also affect gameplay to some extent. To name a few, airflow, the height limit of certain courts, slippery floor texture, and then also considering personal disadvantages like tiredness, lack of practice in the past days, hunger, or maybe your opponent just straight up has a playstyle that hard counters you. Not that they are better than you skill-level-wise, but sometimes your original game just does not work against certain opponents. The list goes on forever. Therefore, finding a way to adapt to any given situation is so crucial in the table tennis world. Maybe you are usually very stable with your backhand opening, but for whatever reason, you start missing them during a match. You've got to think what other tricks you can pull out of your sleeves to deal with the same situation. Maybe your opponent does not have a good backhand loop either, so maybe push long to their backhand instead. Maybe step around to do a forehand loop instead if that works for you. If really nothing works, then well, at least you know what to practice for next time, or maybe next time it will work better, who knows. But the point is always to try to seek changes in the game. Some fun facts: Mattias Falck actually has two rackets prepared for each tournament, a pure wood blade and a fiber one. If he feels that the court is too big, which causes higher airflow, which lowers the ball speed, then he would use the pure wood blade instead during the pre-match practicing, so that it gives a better feeling and a higher potential for harder shots. Ma Lin, the traditional penhold legend, once played against another Chinese player, Sun Ting, in a professional tournament, who has INSANE serve skills, which even Ma Lin can't handle. So Ma Lin, who usually plays with regular rubbers on both sides, switched to long pimples for this one match just to receive the serve better. So basically, just finding different ways to change your game a little bit, if nothing works, then screw that, I know that I can do better next time. Losing one match doesn't really mean anything. But trying to seek changes to overcome technical problems and those minor yet crucial problems is a part of the fun of table tennis, in my humble opinion.
