They never had the specific colors that are on the lines today. They were random. They had nine colors. Red (2, HH, QB, RJ), Orange (1, 7, D, EE, JJ, Culver SS), Yellow, (6, N, Franklin Avenue SS) Green, (CC, GG, RR, Dyre Avenue SS) Cyan (3, 8, E, M 42 Street SS), Blue (A, K-8th Avenue LCL, KK-6th Avenue & Jamaica LCL, TT, Bowling Green SS), Pink (4, AA, F, MJ), and Black, (5, B, J, LL, QJ, 145 St-SS).

That can't be right. What I do remember seeing post closure of the line was the bus issued transfer saying it was valid for entry into the subway at Jay for a ride to Broadway-Nassau, the closest station to the old Park Row el terminal. The Board of Transportation would not eliminate a service and then offer a transfer in one direction. Though at least a single one way transfer existed at 42nd and Sixth for a short while when Christie Street opened. It went to two before the passageway opened in 1971. The lord giveth and taketh.

I checked from a reliable source and there is some truth to what you said. After 9-14-56 11:59PM the outbound transfer was issued only to customers paying a fare at Bway-Nassau IND (not just anybody exiting the IND at Jay St). Also the inbound transfer stopped being issued at Myrtle/Jay and instead was only issued to passengers paying a fare at the stations served solely by MJ trains -except during non AM and midday Mon-Sat hours and all Sun - when fares were collected on-board and transfers issued at Jay. Starting 1-1-90 the free transfer from/to the B54 at Jay and at Myrtle/Broadway was eliminated. As well the trains and stations never carried the MJ bullet.

@@trainluvr I checked the 1967 and 1968 subway maps and it appears, on paper that you are correct, however I distinctly remember that passengers getting of at Jay St Borough hall could get a ticket for transfer to the Myrtle Ave El. ( the MJ ).

Do the 8 Thrid Ave Elevated line white plains Gun Hill road Bronx under neath the 2 5 trains. The 9 trains used to be the shuttle between East 180 and Dyer Ave Bronx.

You definitely know they had the SS trains on Culver 3rd Avenue Elevated line in Brooklyn. It was very very sad that Culver elevated line in Brooklyn and Thrid Avenue Elevated line had to come down because of Governor LaGuardia and Robert mosses could not stand for no extra elevated lines to be the way they are. That's the reasons why the R62s R62AS has those 8 signs and 9 signs and the 10 11 12 13 8 9 signs on them. They think they could get a way with that foolishness tairing down the 9 second and six and fifth eighth Avenue Elevated lines down God had saw all the wrong dirty business going on. I tell you one thing the ninth and Thrid Avenue Elevated lines will definitely come back I tell you that right now.
