The spanning shots are done WAY TOO FAST!
I was stationed there 87-91 awesome place . Tsubahachis was an amazing restaurant. I wonder if it is still open.
What is the name of this garden I am here in Misawa visiting my daughter
Risoukyo Garden. :)
Are you kidding, you start the video with the 7-11, wow we don't have that in the US. This video is boring and dated!
Is the paddy field art available in June at this time?
It should be visible from June - October. This video was taken in September.
I lived in Misawa Japan in 2007 when my dad was stationed there. We lived there for only a short time and lived off base but it was so amazing. So beautiful. Been missing it lately as a grown up military brat now. May go back one day hopefully :)
I got misawa Japan for my first assignment! How easy is it to travel to Tokyo in terms of travel, time, cost, etc.?
Exciting! Tokyo is only an hour flight from Misawa. You can also take the bullet train which is around 3 hours. The cost is relatively the same for a flight or bullet train, around 30,000 yen round trip ($200-$250). Since the yen is weak right now it makes it much more affordable for foreigners to travel Japan.
I moved from misawa a couple months ago and i lived there for about 6 years on base. I’m 13 as of now and i am so thankful i got to grow up there and make lots of friends in the small community there and we would always hang out at the bx or offbase somewhere and it was so fun to explore. super friendly community and clean. my favorite thing i did there was climbing the misawa sign with my friends and eating fami-chiki on top of there and taking pictures, or going to an edgren middle high school football game with friends. i miss misawa so much and i would definitely go back there but atleast i’m in america now so more variety
That Slytherin jumper looks so good on you Matt! I love this place, especially the Dursley's house 😂
The water warm or cold?
Very cold!
Please help me inform the exact time you made this videoclip in Aomori. I hope i can come on the best time of autumn folliage. Thank ad.
These clips were taken from October 22 - November 5. :)
😻
Hey thanks for your videos. I’ve seen several of them. Could you do a video on the popular grocery stores? Here in Tokyo we have Joyful Honda, Aeon, and Seiyu but I don’t think any of them exist up there
I met my wife at Towada-ko in 1953. Country girl all the way. Married for 67 years. Miss her Taka-san.
I was stationed there from 60 to 62 remember the snow well
I was there. It snowed more than any other place. Enjoy.
I had Mono when Popeyes came to the base. 91 or so. Burger king was always the better choice.
Hirosaki and Yokohama are some of my favorite places in the world. It's so wild seeing someone take the exact same steps as me just years in the future
First TDY to Misawa was 1976. Been going there off and on for over 40 years. You should of seen it back then.
How cool! I wish we could have seen it back then!
@@mattanddags Only a 1/4 (if that) of the buildings back ten. Nothing on the far side of the runway and only a few buildings on the road going to the hill area. More Navy than Air Force. I worked Air Force Communications. It was just a sleepy little base.
Here's hoping for sakura when we're there
We lived there from 1974-1976. We lived off base in the W area and moved on base within 2-3 months and it was right inside the main gate. I loved it there and still in touch with ladies I met there. We all loved it, we are Misawa sisters for life. We all met in 2014 for a reunion and it was wonderful.
That's amazing! We love Misawa.
What time of year did you go? I'm thinking of going in late April 2024.
What a beautiful scenery my friend! This looks amazing!
My son is stationed at JB Misawa. He’s been there a year. He’s in Security Forces. I don’t know his new flight. I haven’t hugged in since Dec 2023 and I miss him dearly. I am so grateful for the sacrifices our troops make to defend our nation. God bless you all
Do you record everything on your iPhone? How do you edit?
Yes! It's all filmed on my iPhone and I use Adobe Premire Pro to edit.
@@mattanddags thanks for the response! I’ll be PCSing there in August been enjoying the videos!
Commander, Submarine Group 7 Yokosuka Naval Base. Thanks for the video and good luck to both of you.
Ok the bloopers were 10/10 😂 gotta keep doing that in your vids
🤣
I was stationed at Misawa from 1987-92. There was no 7 Elevens, McDonald's (closest one from 87-90 was in Morioka, a 3 hour drive and one opened in Hachinohe in 91). Burger King opened around 1989 and Popeyes did not exist on base yet. I shopped at Nakai Liquor quite a few times down Green Pole Rd. I partied a lot in AP Alley but unfortunately, it was all torn down around 2007.
I was assaulted today at the Red Brick Warehouse by the manager of the warehouse, the manager of the ice skating rink, and a customer who was causing trouble on the rink. The ice skating rink manager and the manager of the warehouse told ME to stop fighting even though I had not raised a finger against them. Then they apologized, but they refused to tell me why they felt compelled to touch my body. Boycott Japan and all Japanese products. Get American soldiers out of Japan and make the Japanese defend their own country.
thanks for the tips on yamadera that we hv to bring money. we're coming to ski zao and yamagata in less than a week but watching your video makes me want to just go now :)
Nice vid, about to move to japan again Novemberish 2024(first base was yokota). Its deff going to be a different experience coming from the Tokyo. Tho i visit Japan every year, ive never been up north.
Were you able to ship your vehicle there?
Looks amazing, thanks for this :) I'm planning to head over to Zao Onsen in February 2024 and your recommendation that it is a must really seals it! I have a few questions if you don't mind, the accommodation at Zao Onsen is a bit on the pricier side; I'm planning to drive so would it make sense for me to live about 30 minutes or an hour away; and drive over early in the morning? Would parking be an issue at Zao Onsen area? Sorry I'm trying to find these details online but can't seem to do so. There will be 6 of us, and 4 of us ski while the remaining 2 are elderly.. would there be anything for them over at Zao Onsen while we ski for 2 days? Any insights would be helpful, thank you!
We stayed in Yamagata and it was only a 30 min drive to Zao. The parking was a little confusing but you should be able to find a spot - just make sure to get there early. I'm not sure if there are other things to do there but I noticed many shops and restaurants. You can also ride the gondola to the top and back down without skiing.
@@mattanddags Thank you so much for this :) really helpful. I'll check out the snow mobiles as I heard that it's possible to get one of those for a ride - thanks!
i'm going to zao in 27 dec and staying over the new year. we booked at G-Square in Zao and found the price was reasonable. but i agree with you the ryokans in zao is tend to be pricey. let me know if you have any questions
3 years for me. The Popeyes chicken on base was my second home..lol. the chicken and cheese gyoza off base was so much better though. But the chow hall,... hands down the best! All I really remember was it snowed 10 months a year..summer lasted about a week..lol.
Now do the townhouses in Misawa
Question, my friends is in Air Force and this will be her new duty station. I want to get her a Christmas gift she can use here like a gift card to a nice restaurant in Misawa or store etc. any tips, ideas?! Thank you so much!
Honestly, there are not many nice restaurants in Misawa and many gift cards from the states don't work here. Since winters are harsh I recommend getting winter gear like hats, gloves, etc.
Great video guys! I spent 3 years in Misawa (2018-2021) and also visited the Badlands and the Dances with Wolves museum in SD. Small world and it’s great to see your videos and the fond memories of our similar travels. Keep the videos coming 👍
Thanks for sharing the video .What a beautiful place!
Thanks for the video! Also, I'm guessing the Deer park has multiple gates? Which is the best gate to enter?
Nara park is HUGE! I wouldn't really say there is a best entrance.
Hi! Thank you for sharing on base housing! We will move to Misawa soon. I have a kid. Do you think we live 2BR? Can we choose tower or town house?
I think they are sending families off base now but you might have the option to stay on base in a 2 bedroom tower or town house.
@@mattanddagsThank you so much 😊
First duty station NAF Misawa 1996-2000. Best duty station out of all the duty stations ive been in, festivals, festivals, festivals, road trips, road trips, road trips, open air mixed onsen, skiing/snowboarding, ryokans, game rooms, food, food and more food, made quite a bit of local friends even befriended yakuzas.
Misawa is great!
What month?
February!
i live in misawa
So can married couples live off base now? I just got my orders and I’m struggling to find any resources for house hunting. Do you know any websites where I can look around?
Yes, they've changed the rules since this video was made. Married couples can live off-base and single Sailors will have to live on-base. I don't think you can start house hunting until you get to Misawa. And if there are no houses available off-base they will put you on-base. The housing office website might have more info. I also recommend joining "Misawa Asks" on Facebook and looking for posts about the housing.
Nice...gonna share on our fb page!!
What hotels do u you recommend booking in Tokyo for military?
The New Sanno! It's a military hotel. Make sure to book very far in advance.
is it too early to see this in late Oct, like around 10/20?
It depends on the year but the festival is usually held in late October or early November.
North Base used to just be called the Hill and that's where all the 'security' people worked...used to bus/drive there from main base....Is the ski lodge still up there near north base?
Yes! The ski lodge is still there and gets used. :)
I was originally supposed to be assigned to Misawa but thankfully was re-assigned to Osan Korea (1981-82)
Camped at Lake Tawada a few times....so beautiful
