Illusion of Gaia Any% (no WW) TAS - WIP 6
This is the 6th WIP of my Illusion of Gaia Any% no WW TAS. It goes through Watermia, the Great Wall, Euro and Mount Temple.
I'd say that Great Wall went pretty well. I managed to exploit the ramp at the end of the first two rooms to exit more quickly (requires sub-pixel-perfect positioning, probably too hard for RTA). At the end of the first room, I waste a bit of time fighting fire enemies to manipulate the first egg pattern for Sand Fanger; this doesn't actually cost any time since I have to wait for the wall spikes cycle anyway.
After manipulating the first egg pattern from Sand Fanger, the little fanger spawns call RNG too, so I can manipulate the next patterns by choosing when to kill them. It was a bit finicky, but I managed to get the perfect 5/5 eggs fight!
For Mount Temple, the biggest difficulty is health management. I have to have at most 4HP after getting the teapot, which means that I need to deplete my HP efficiently until then. The flute elves are the strongest source of damage (4HP per hit), so I used mostly damage from those. I anticipated that I would receive the last damage from one of the laggy spiders when leaving the 3rd mushroom drops room, but the spiders' positions were a bit unfortunate so I couldn't make the most of the last damage boost... Oh well.
In the second mushroom drops room, I tested the RTA route (which uses another Spin Dash through the golden skulls on the way forwards) and it was indeed faster by around 40 frames. But the two damage boosts from the flute elves was too important to pass on so I chose that option instead.
Overall, it was a pretty tedious dungeon to TAS because of the multiple corner turns to optimize, and the unavoidable lag from spiders.
The equivalent RTA time after the cutscene with Lance and Lilly (after Sand Fanger) is 1:03:10, and out of Mount Temple, it is 1:10:17.

The manipulation of the vampires fight is insane!, i don't blame that you had to deal with a ton of scenarios where you had to re-do segments until getting the best result, the TAS looks sick so far =) can't wait to see the final product!

Would you be interested in creating a a new category for the game to speedrun beyond Any%? I played this game a lot as a kid and I think the best idea would be, "All Hearts," that is collecting all the big hearts that increase your life bar, some of them are hidden away in obscure places so it would really open up the game with fresh strategies to develop to save time.
That could be a fun run to route as a side category. Thanks for the idea :)

I start in speedruning after see a lot of your runs :) , do you have by any chance some advice for a new runner? Im not to sure about how to learn the games or how many time is recommended for practice per day 😂
Just learn from other people's runs, watch a run bit by bit and try to copy the strats. Having an emulator + savestates (or better, a console + fxpak pro) is very useful to practice individual parts. Some games have really good tutorials (like SNES Aladdin for example) which you can find on speedrun dot com. Also, feel free to reach out to the game's community (if there is a discord server, you can also find it on speedrun dot com)! Runners usually love to see newcomers and help them out. And finally, there's no recommendation on how long/much you should practice. The most important thing is to have fun :)
