    Many aspects of this video are quite good, but it only focuses on Alaska, which has just a small number of all of the Inuit people. To me that is weird, but it is typical of the American view that the entire rest of the world does not exist and doesn't matter a bit. It also glosses over the devastating effect of the coming of the whites with just 2 sentences. They mention German Measles (and smallpox?), then state "All of the residents died." They give the missionaries very high praise, and make no mention at all of the harm done by them, including the ways they forced conversion. These were were not gentle, helpful, kind, generous men, and some of them inflicted SEVERE physical, psychological, and sexual abuse. They do give considerable time to land rights issues. That is an extremely important topic that deserves attention, since it impacts people's lives immensely. I'm very happy to see that. To this day the Inuit in all the countries where they live are still suffering from colonial and paternalistic attitudes, and the greed of those colonial. They are such beautiful people,but even if they weren't, they would still deserve every bit of respect and dignity from us, and they deserve AT LEAST their fair share of the modern resources. Since they were initially robbed by us for over 100 years, that needs to be made up for. I hope that the intelligent and computer literate people who are living up north today will be able to be successful in their

      I sincerely doubt that. You must mean the oldest white community. I forget the name of the place, but there is archeological evidence of a burial that is much, much older. For you to make that claim is an INSULT which ignores all of the aboriginal people who are and were living on Turtle Island (That is the first and original name for N America.), and in fact on both the Americas.

I've often thought about that baby and it's family and how they are doing. The babie's father was out on trap line and his father went out to bring him in. Are they sure that these are the people who existed there for 1000's of years? Recent DNA evidence, shows that the Inuit are actually a group called the Thule, who came from Siberia no more than 900 years ago. The archaeological evidence may be of the Dorset, a people probably killed by the new comers. I'd be interested to see a DNA study done here. Remember, Science is always self correcting.

    • @ashleysmith9516
      @ashleysmith9516 Před 5 měsíci

    • @cattymajiv
      @cattymajiv Před měsícem

      @@jlgordey There is 1 legend, I forget where it came from, that says the Thule killed the Dorset, but there is no actual evidence whatsoever that it really happened. All archeologists know that. We (people in general) also don't know what happened to the Beothuk people, or the first Viking settlers on Greenland and Northern Newfoundland. But nobody is proposing that the Thule killed them all. If they did kill the Dorset, there would be at least a small amount of scattered evidence, such as intentionally damaged and burnt dwellings, bodies showing violent wounds, and weapons in a state that speaks of being used violently. There is nothing of that sort anywhere, from Alaska to Greeland. It's equally possible that the 2 groups blended, or that the Dorset were seperate and just died out, or were out-competed for food. Imho, blending is the most likely. Future DNA studies might tell us more. As you probably know, the oldest DNA yet found in N America is of a young girl called Rising Star, and is Inuit/Thule. She was found with another infant in a burial near the eastern end of the former land bridge. Until we know more, I would caution you against accusing the ancestors of living people of murder and genocide. There are Inuit people today in the cities of all 3 of the countries where they live, and where you might might meet some at a party or gathering. The ones still up north in their homelands use CZcams too. They are not living in igloos and huts anymore. They read things like this. I would be quite offended if you said that about my past family in Ireland. I realize you softened the statement with the word "probably" but that would hardly be noticed, and it would still really offend people.
