As a Munster (Limerick) man, I'm proud of Brian Boru, the first true King of all Ireland. 👑👑👑 🇮🇪
Brian's early life is very interesting and only in Ireland could he rise from that to a Great Leader at that time in history
Dr Elva Johnston is an amazing source of information, and a great speaker.
I am enjoying reading Ireland The Arising by Edward Rutherford learning so much history of the beautiful emerald island.
Great lecturer,
Of all the victims of the Catholic Church in modern times, none has been more trampled to death than the Irish.
Hope you get well mrs Brenda!
Well done!
pain in my fucking ass doing an essay on this
God Bless Éireann. ☘️🇮🇪🕊
A video of all Eucharistic Congresses needs to be made in order
❤
Wow, my grandads name is Brian
I have to side with Sitric Cáech. Christianity killed us all.
The protestant minority living in the 26 counties in 1932 watched this event, and felt uncomfortable, as the 26 counties was going to have it's social policy laid down from Rome and not from Dublin. Ireland's 26 counties replaced one monarchy for another. Kicked out the British and brought in the Vatican army instead

So the Irish were fighting each other well before the British got involved? Interesting
Since there have been cows in Ireland, there has been fighting, starting with cattle raids. “Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s cow.”
The MacGiollaPhadrigs, Fitzpatricks, who ran Ossary, refused to fight in Dublin the got the Vikings on the road to Wexford it was a revenge for one of their own getting killed in Waterford or Wexford. Cearbhall Mac Giolla is the only high king in Annals outside Ireland. Be careful what you believe here, O'Brians, or O'Briens, think about it....
Why would macneill bow to Hyde in relation to irish being taught so tamely when it was one of his tenets
Brian Boru was great Celtic warrior like Brennus and Wercyngetoryks
To be fair, Sigurd the Stout(Jarl of the Orkneys who participated in and died at the battle of Clontarf) was forced to convert to Christianity by Olaf Tyggvasson at the end of the 10th century, along with all of his people. I'm sure many of the other Norse and Norse-Gael rulers in Ireland were forced to convert as well. And while they continued to be nominally Christian after Olaf's death for largely political purposes, that wasn't necessarily the case in private. After all, we know that Sigurd flew the raven banner in battle and on his ships, an overt symbol of Óðinn. All I'm saying is that the portrayal of Brian Boru as a Christian king fighting against the Pagans isn't completely ridiculous. Great video though. 👍
Well done . The conflicted and perhaps fickle gormlaigh.
We were never a united people
2:25 sorry if you think it's silly, but I'm French, and not used to your pronunciation. my subtitles tell you speak of "email", am I correct in translating to Ui Neill?
Me too I’m French haha
I wanted to be in Dublin for Good Friday 2014, but unfortunately couldn't... beside, little question, At the beginning, when you mention, and show the Book of Armagh, I notice the signature, because it's in red, but the letters are very strange, what style of writing was this?
Learned this fact from an old movie called Darby O’Gill and the little people. First time I ever heard of this king who drove out the dane.
Punishments for homosexuality were apparently not brutal enough. It didn't stop.
The fact that this was part of ireland back in 1800 eds amazing there such little intrest in it todday there are local hse or doctors despencries and general hospitals one thing in common the hospitals are still overcrowded
Celtic history never ceases to amaze me, great video.
They excluded able bodied men because they said they should work. There was NO work.
Dead man's glory!!!
Up king brian
Viva Irlanda y su reina 🇮🇪👸🏻🥰And Clannad🥰🙏
Wtf? Our queen? I’d piss on one if we had one….
Brian Boru was no hero. He was a land grabbing catholic butcher. Died in a tent praying while the real warriors fought to end his dictatorship.
‘Catholics’ didn’t exist then 🙄
Caerbhall descendant here. 🙌
Very interesting.

Thank you for this fascinating educational session on an aspect of history that needs just this sort of exposure, and for recording and uploading it. Shows that fundamental research is being conducted and deserves widespread exposure.
I wonder why this isn't on Age of Empires II yet.
I was watching one of your video 's on Brian Boro .He was my cousin.I am 7 generations from my grandfather coming to the USA in 1710 from Limerick the Obrians and the Earls of limerick were my cousins the family moved to limerick in the 1200's My grandfather was King Rirri Ua Donnacain the last king of Amirah . On orders from the king of England every body had to anglenis there name.He took the name Dunnigan. He is first of my grandfathers with my name. He was a grandson of king Cormac year 1000. Cormac grandson of Heromond the 1st king Ireland I am a direct descendant. I am Heromoian. Unlike my cousins the O'brians they are of Heber.
super interesting stuff to im imagining no less than 25% of the country I live in and thats nearly 85 million people whose at least half their family tree starts in Ireland , you could make a little longer version for people who love these facts , but your I realize your professors and have little time for that. Sounds like you guys know a lot of super cool information about the most interesting , beautiful, kind culture on Earth.
Interesting ₩..Person , Wonderful Voice , why haven't We seen Or heard of Her on national broadcasting forums? discussion,s etc. On any subject!
I am a direct descendant of Brian Boru, feels good man
Obrien
All my dad's side of the family are from clontarf. Beautiful town
6:50 what is she on about? Literally every irish family of note adopted surnames at around this time, from an ancestor in this period, important or not. Ua Briain means "grandson of Brian" and was adopted by his descendents, like every other Irish surname. It wasn't adopted by the Dál gCais, the Dál gCais (descendents of Cas) continued being called just that and constituted hundreds of individual families with their own surnames and ancestors (McNamara, Kennedy, Hogan, O'Dea etc). Embarassing ignorance demonstrated by this woman masquerading as some kind of scholar. Typical of the brainless "skepticism" of anything and everything that they think constitutes historical research.
Thank you for this video. I tried to find some information on them but every other video I saw was about comic stuff.
