Hey what do you do with the flowers

I have been gardening long enough to get a crossbreed of tomatoes every single year. I want some big tomatoes, I want paste tomatoes. They cross polinate and I get all sorts of weird shaped tomatoes.

Those are C. Melo (same species as cantaloupe). Did you grow something like a plum Granny or something else that could have given you that?

I think those are (mostly underripe) lemon cucumbers… not a hybrid volunteer.

Last year we had pumpkins and butternut squash hybridize, they were the hugest butternut squash I’ve ever seen in my life, easily 3 feet long! We called them squmpkins😅 now as I’m watching this video I’m realizing maybe that’s why some of my cucumbers came out so fucking huge and yellow!? So cool

It’s not something that grew from your compost; it came from some crow or other bird that planted it for you. I have had things grow in my soil thanks to Minahs - things I haven’t planted myself. It happens when you have open compost.

It should be said that cucamelons are not hybrids between cucumbers and watermelons. The cucamelon is Melothria scabra, related to cucumber but not the same genus and definitely not a hybrid

Yes! We’ve had hybrid squash, hybrid chilies, regular cucumbers, and many varieties of tomatoes come up in or near our compost.

This could be a hybrid of your cucumbers, but it is not a hybrid of cucumbers crossed with watermelon. Cucumbers and watermelon are different enough genetically that they cannot cross at this point. Or at least the chances of them crossing are so small as to be practically impossible. So most likely you had some birds or other animals help you with this new plant. You may have also just ended up with some fun mutated genetics from a cucumber. Happy harvesting!
