L'acoustique est tellement bonne que l'on entends les gens tousser et c'était avant le covid, imaginé si le public avait juste avant été convié à un banquet géant de cassoulet et cela aurait été un concert pêteur, rhhhooooo la "lose" (in english)!!!

You have something in common with the late Maurice Ravel: you cannot hear the difference between major and minor. In fact, the symphonie no. 3 is in c minor,, with three flat signs at the key. Mr. Järvi has also problems with French music: he seems to conduct a symphony by Glazounow.Dommage!

I wonder why I've not come across this particular performance before? I coudg easily run out of superlatives. Brilliant to hear the organ taking centre stage , smiling at the dishevelled organist whi looked as though he'd been dragged through a hedge backwards and at the young man striking the cymbals which where almost as big as him. For me the slow art of the 1st movement far surpassed the vitality of the finale. And three cheers for Mr Putin, sorry, Jarvi, who put his all into it. Bravo everyone.

That's not just any "dishevelled organist, that's Thierry Escaich, one of France's greatest organ virtuosos.

A couple of observations, more about the hall and the musicians than the conductor and the composer: For a fully professional orchestra, this was rather a ragged performance. One gained the impression that Jarvi was trying to steer a ship that responded slowly to the rudder. Another observation was that an electrician could have unplugged the new organ, and the result would have been mostly unchanged. Saint Saens asked for the organ to make statements as well as dialog with the orchestra. Here, it is all about the organ providing more of a continuo. The piano cadenzas seem more important to this performance. Not a bad thing, just the only thing. Maybe much of the trouble is that the hall is too dry for the orchestra, not to mention the organ? I have heard and attended performances of this work dozens of times. This one was "needy," especially as to precision and balance. I don't understand the audience's enthusiasm. Perhaps they heard something that we, on video and audio, did not? Should you wish to hear this work performed with passion and in tight, balanced ensemble -- including the organ -- look here: czcams.com/video/d7sGp6xcJDc/video.html
