    I like the mechanic, and I agree with you in basically everything, but I so think it could be a little bit better. Like, there is a normal attachment we created with weapons, and this mechanic kinda ruin that feeling, I think they could solve that problem by having a guy somewhere that can recover weapon you broke for a price and materials. Anothe problem is that, by the end of the game, I got some really cool weapons, but I felt like that was a problem, because now I found myself not wanting to fight enemies, bacause I was just going to break my weapons to get weaker ones, so I found myself avoiding fights, and fighting enemies is kinda the fun part, so, it kinda ruins that feeling, because you feel like your wasting the weapons.

    I personally hate them. If you do use them the game is too easy because it breaks ai and you can kill the bosses too quickly, if you dont use them the games too hard because the boss's hp and damage are balanced with the assumption that you are using spirit ashes. I dont know why they couldn't just make it so enemies only get stronger if you decide to summon a spirit to make it more balanced for all players instead of forcing it on players who like to play solo.

    I might be the only one but I love breaking my weapons in the Zelda games. There is something satisfying about knowing your weapon is about to break and throwing it at your enemy's face, I love that a weapon deals critical damage on break. Since I engage in combat so much in the games I'm never short on resources so I don't attach to my weapons a lot, the only exception are the craftable champion weapons which when they are about to break I just stop using and take home to display them.

      This feeling only happens in the start of the game, mainly because it makes players play more creatively with their limited resources and interestingly designed environmental traps to use against the enemies. However around mid to late game where the player has amassed alot of gear, the durability doesntly really do anything but annoy the player, pause the game switch with the exact same moveset doesn't offer much depth. Tears is arguably worse in some areas as not only does ur weapon break, u have to run around to find somthing to fuse with, arrows are tedious to use since u have to fuse them every single shot. It doenst help that intresting designed environmental hazards are still too few in the open world which just has alot of space and not enough densely designed encounters And the few densely designed encounters like ganons layer in the depths, doesn't have a shred of environmental hazards you can use against the swarm of enemies. Since the point of the game is exploration, the player will have alot of items eventually and the durability becomes less and less of a resource and somthing players just tolerate. This is why the best implementation of durability is during the eventide island, master sword triles, or the eventide like shrines in totk where you don't have abundance of resources and must play smart and creative with the tools the levels give The point I'm getting at is that if the point of the game is playing it creatively, then the zelda team have failed to a certain extent in doing that if this many people can complain about it and forgo being creative.

      @@xsubzerox3412 then you’ve failed to listen to what the devs have been trying to teach you. Weapons are supplemental to the game's overall design. Maybe you should rely on them and utilise your other tools. Never within my total play time was I remotely annoyed by the weapon durability because I was given many more resources in turn after engaging in combat. Nor was I exclusively relying on the melee options. Here’s a heads up, use your other tools instead of crying about it.

    • @xsubzerox3412
      @xsubzerox3412 Před měsícem

      @Auvisome I think u havnt understood what I said, why would I need to use other tools when I have an abundance of weapons, I dont have to be creative, I can just keep destroying my weapons and getting new ones. The point I'm saying, past the starting great plateau, where resouces like arrows, bows and weapons are scarce, the player will feel encouraged to employ smart and creative combat solutions, The later parts of the game fail at this level of incentivising the player to play creatively as having an inventory full of items takes away the "need" to play creative. The end result is that durability just becomes an annoyance in the later game thats all, you don't need to be creative cause u have dozens of weapons. EDIT: also its not up to the player to listen to GDC talks of the devs, its up to the devs to communicate these ideas through gameplay to the player, the fact that it is polarising to alot of people means improvements needs to be made. Weapons are nothing but consumables in this game, means past a certain point, nothing in the game can feel rewarding or unique.

    While I get the frustration of lots of players, I still think that it completes the picture for both BotW and TotK. 1) You find lots of weapons in both games, often dropping from enemies. This makes all weapons easily replaceable, even the most rare ones 2) It incentivize you to improvise with different weapon types and environment interactions 3) It makes the throw mechanic so satisfying, if your weapons lasted forever you would never throw your strongest weapon at the enemies, but seeing that it's about to break down is a perfect opportunity to deal lots of damage with a final throw (that also gets that sweet sweet breaking sound effect on top) I really think that having weapons be undestractable would make them boring, but maybe they could have implemented some kind of object or smith that restores a weapon's durability for rupees or certain materials

  • @uberpinkwarrior

    I found the durability system made me massively disinclined to do... almost anything. I didnt want to fight enemies unless they had weapons i wanted, so i almost never fought, which meant i had almost no monster parts and no money so upgrading outfits was a nightmare. I didnt feel inclined to explore because most rewards for exploration was a weapon or shield that would break 5 seconds later. I had absolutely no attachment to any weapon or shield and found myself playing the game exclusively as a checklist, because playing it how it was meant to be played left me feeling constantly punished by my good gear being broken and replaced by vastly inferior gear. I'd have vastly preferred the idea of scrapping gear you didnt want to repair or enhance gear you did want. So that you could develop a connection with that gear. Like what happens in souls games.

    My only big issue with the weapon system is that there is no clear repair option for those who have taken the time to farm the materials (breaking them isn't a good substitute). You can still have weapons break and let the player repair them if taken the care to save them for later. The games have a massive issue of materials being so plentiful, so being able to spend them would be nice. I also am of the opinion that Zelda games going forth should implement the weapon smithing mechanic put into Age of Calamity. Not only does it encourage experimentation, but it gives weapon types new life by being able to customise the stats for different gameplay styles. Certain weapons and armour like shields become completely useless in BotW and TotK once you reach a certain threshold that makes it very easy to sit on a massive arsenal of some of the best combinations in the game. Smithing would solve that. So yeah, breaking weapons aren't a massive issue. Not being able to use materials to repair and upgrade more stuff is.

      In totk you can actually repair weapons now through rocktorocks found in the eldin region, note that it only works on weapon to whom you can reroll weapon perks (durability, attack etc) so that excludes legendary weapons (champion weapons and amiibo weapons). Note that indeed rocktorocking a weapon will reroll the stats of the weapon while rerolling the perks it at the same time. Doing this is quite easy tho, you first have to find a rocktorock and drop the weapon you want near him, if its near enough he will swallow it and throw it back and your weapon is repaired, note that it works only once per weapon on a rocktorock.

Of course there are still losers who will mock you for using them but they're not even close to being representative of the majority. That being said, my issue with spirit summons isn't that they make the game easier. Its that they make the game easier in an unsatisfying way. I can see that From attempted to make them work but taking aggro and doing significant damage can trivialize most bosses. I would sooner overlevel my weapon or blessings or RL than use a summon because they still enable me to engage with the moveset of the boss rather then spam and ash of war when my summon takes aggro.

    As long as you engage with all the mechanics of the boss and environment, then spirit summons are fine. I think the mimic is overtuned still, but the dlc shows that as long as the damage and health is toned down, its fine

    I'll never talk shit and tell someone they're playing wrong for using summons when you're so clearly encouraged to use them, but I personally don't like them and disagree that not using them is "making the experience infinitely worse for yourself". Just because a game mechanic is encouraged doesn't mean engaging with it will always improve your experience. People enjoy different things and game developers don't always know what's best for every player. To me, summons are simply not a fun game mechanic no matter how they're implemented or how integral they're meant to be to the combat system. I enjoy the experience of learning a boss's moveset and conquering the challenge without any help. It doesn't matter if the boss was designed to be fought with a summon, it still cheapens the experience for me if I'm getting free hits without the boss paying attention to me because it doesn't feel like I earned it. People enjoy these games for different reasons so they're free to enjoy it how they want, but this is how I enjoy it most. I personally wish spirit summons were never included in the game. Not because I'm an elitist that wants everyone to git gud and play how I do, but because bosses being designed around summons makes them less fun to fight without them. Many bosses, especially as you get closer to the end and into the DLC, hardly give you any breaks to heal or even attack them back when you don't use summons because they're designed to be attacking multiple targets. This very often makes them feel unrelenting to the point that it's unfair, but using a summon to even the odds just takes all the enjoyment out of it for me so there's no good solution. And I know a ton of other people feel the same as I do. Unfortunately, for many people that feeling turns into a childish dick measuring contest and feeling the need to put others down for playing a different way, but that doesn't change the fact that summons were not a good inclusion for the majority of hardcore soulsborne fans. Imo they were a bad addition to the series despite the wider appeal they may have brought to it, because alienating your core audience in favor of wider appeal is never a good strategy long term.

    The IDEA is fine..and in the main game they were a good tool.. but what became of them, not so much.. I fully believe they ramped up the DLCs fights because of summons.. They had to balance the fights based on the OP Endgame summons people had, which im sure was fine for those that used them but for those who didn't use them - it made some of the fights a bit more annoying than difficult.

    I don't have the right to tell someone how to play a game, but I feel that spirit summons are unbalanced and the game is a better experience without them. I have beaten the game several times on my first playthrough I used summons and they acted as a crutch to make up for my inability to doge certain attacks so I stopped using them because I felt they hindered my ability to improve.

      The main problem with the argumenmt of spirit summons is that its not really possible to say they make it worse or better as a fact but i do think you make a good point i dont use spirit summons anymore

      @@backthrust1116 well it's from an interview people talk about it a lot, but he also states in that interview that he is a rly bad gamer so that would confirm why you think its the easiest game. also, dont think that spirit ashes make the game easier... bosses are rly unpredictable they can just rotate 180 degrees in an instant and attack, while on 1v1 you can learn the boss... with the summon its harder to get the pattern
