Why do motorcycles get bad fuel economy?
**Disclaimer** There are a lot of small variations in the figures due to me getting tired while converting between mpg, pounds, grams, etc. It does not affect the general point or results of the calculations by much, if at all in practical terms, otherwise I would have rerecorded the video
Also, I am aware that I used a 2014 Mondeo's picture for the 2013 Mondeo's economy figures. I started the video using the 2013 Ford Fusion as a reference and forgot that generation of Mondeo didn't come out until 2014 when creating the slides.

    I had my c70DD 82 switched to a dream / wave 100 engine . Full engine and box swap . Way better bike now . I like in Vietnam currently so all in it cost £70 and took half a day. Still have the 70 engine too. Can I fit a 125 in there ? I’m doing some longer rides and with a child and bags it’s still a struggle in the hills. A well Kept wave 110 is definitely quicker than my 100 dream engined cub . Peak outputs are deceptive

    Liked and subscribed. Hopefully the algorithm will see my existing likes and history and include your video when people look for this stuff. I don't have this model but watched anyway after seeing your presentation. Yeah yeah, you'll hear the JIS people screaming in nearly every video dealing with imports, (you can buy 1/4" hex bits in multipacks with #2 and #3, handy for this stuff), However, your careful approach to fasteners and all the little bits is a huge help to viewers who may not know this stuff. Nice work!

    Bottom line....if you look at the numbers, you have a Hyundai accent car with a 1.6 liter engine that can get 36 mpg.....a Kawasaki Vulcan 1600, which has 2 less cylinders, less horsepower and is probably 1 5th the weight, logic should suggest that your fuel consumption should be at least quadruple the car. But the Vulcan only gets around 50 mpg maybe a little more if you're careful. Something just isn't right in my opinion. Yes I think there is a global conspiracy lol. The math should explain it.

    Just bought a 2017 crf50 that sat for 1-2 years. Ive owned 30 of these bikes so im very familiar with them. This one moves when put in gear but not giving it gas. On a stand when running I put it in gear and the back tire starts spinning fast and only stops when put in neutral. I cleaned the carb and adjusted the idle, I made sure the throttle wasnt stuck open or pull up, I adjusted the clutch with the side nut/screw, and I removed the side cover and pulled the clutch out and made sure the plates weren’t stuck then reoiled them and put it back in. Nothing has helped. I don’t understand whats making the tire spin. Ive also tried giving it gas and hitting the brakes to try to free whatever is stuck.

    Older motorcycles get less than 3l/100km, like DKW RT 125 should go under 3. It is a fascinating 2-stroke carburator. Also the bigger DKW 350 NZ is listed as 3.3l/100km. Modern motorcycles are just bad at fuel economy due to poor engineering and dumb customers who buy oversquare engines for MAX POWA! But if you go ahead and get a long stroke Royal Enfield, you can still get a 350cc bike that gets you 3l/100km. Or you can get 100cc TVS which gets you 1.4l/100km. Well at least in India you can, but not in EU. Because EU doesn't want fuel efficient vehicles in the market, because they dilute the market of BMW, Audi etc.. so EU euro5 code etc. are actually increasing fuel consumption of many vehicles, basically. But you can get Royal Enfields in Europe.

  • @jacanessa2002
    @jacanessa2002 Před rokem

    I’m afraid you’re wrong about slip avoidance. The mechanism involved does engages the clutch instead. That allows the engine kick start and always cranks the engine when you push, pull the motorcycle whenever any shift other than neutral is engaged. Think about it. With engine not running and any gear engaged you can move the bike backwards freely but cranks engine when you push it forward. Try it.
