1-Hour Pallet Disassembly Challenge
I've been a little bit stung by some recent accusations of pallet-disassembly fraud, so here I present my rebuttal.
Where I'm working with the boards on the ground I've rotated the video from the head-mounted camera by 180 degrees, which I think makes it into a 2nd-person perspective.

    Here in Norway at least, on the second pallet we have a return system. Those are worth about 21 ausd(today's exchange rate) a pop.

    • @TightwadWorkshop
      @TightwadWorkshop Před 12 dny

      If I could earn $20 for each returned pallet I definitely wouldn't be dismantling them! Here in Australia EPAL and other unpainted softwood pallets are not reused. We DO have reusable pallets, but they're an unusual 1165x1165mm size that isn't used anywhere else in the world: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_standard_pallet

    I can only imagine how much hard work goes into these videos. From idea generation, to planning and development for the camera and on screen work, gathering materials and setting up, actual filming, then hours of editing including subtitles and sound. After all that, I'd hope people could at least leave an appreciative comment. For my part, I very much enjoy your videos and always learn something new. Thank you for making them.

I like your use of the tressels, I'll have to make some original Tightwad ones 😊 thanks for sharing, and showing us you can make decent things with not much ❤️

  • @thomasearlfranklin584

    This is way more exciting than the Olympics. You aren’t wearing gloves. You can hammer left handed. In Albuquerque, people buy new furniture made of fake wood. Then they leave their old pine and maple furniture by the sidewalk for free, hoping a poor neighbor will take it. That wood is better than pallet wood. So I only use the best pallets. I have to finish watching this video later since I have a tightwad project to do. I never thought you were faking anything, but I thought you were lazy and not making enough videos.

    Yeah, I kind of got the idea that pallet timber harvesting was a chore. And for someone with ADHD, I dont think it's worth me getting too involved in it. Although, I have some stupid vision of making a table top for one of those cast iron sewing machine frames out of scrap timber all nicely made into lines..... It's currently got a daggy piece of ply on it, just to make a flat surface.

    • @TightwadWorkshop
      @TightwadWorkshop Před 14 dny

      It's always a trade-off between "time" and "money", although in this game however much "time" you spend harvesting wood from pallets it'll never be as good as the quality you'll buy with "money".

      Have you considered making a matchstick-top for your sewing machine base? I have a 1949 Japanese Riccar machine! The machine is a direct copy of the 47' Singer. Mine has the 100 v motor add on with a foot pedal. I had the tensioner replaced in Yokosuka, Japan. STILL the fastest and straightest sewing machine I know.

    • @TightwadWorkshop

      I also have one of those Japanese HA-1 sewing machines, you can see mine in this video: czcams.com/video/7eS_5DSk-4U/video.html I also used to think that the 2 machines were identical, but in fact many of their parts are NOT interchangeable (the most obvious being the location of the "arm" on the bobbin case). I'll make a video showing it and my Singer 15 side-by-side one day, but maybe it's more accurate to describe them as an "evolution" of the Singer 15, rather than a "clone".

      I have about a 50% success rate (slightly better when I use the EPAL pallets made with compressed sawdust spacer blocks). Practice helps a bit, but there's still an element of chance in it - I had to record 3 takes to get this video, and even in this one I ended up with some broken firewood pieces.

  • @williamwakely1398
    @williamwakely1398 Před měsícem

    A tip: if you get an old tire and put the logs you're splitting in the center, it'll hold the chunks upright as you split and remove the need for picking up the individual pieces for further splitting. Pack it tight and the natural combination of slight elasticity and steel cords will keep the pieces together... Came across that a while back and it's made the process of chunking through the firewood stack next to the house much easier. There's a certain satisfaction to spending a day logsplitting - the timber keeps you warm three times, once when you cut it, once when you split it, and a third when you finally get around to burning it!

    • @TightwadWorkshop
      @TightwadWorkshop Před měsícem

      Thank you Mr Wakely, I'll definitely add that one to my Top Tips List for next time. 👍 I must admit though, I wanted to capture the "split blocks violently flying apart" on my high-speed camera to add a bit of drama and interest to the video. 🙂
