    Curious what's the plan when the seal reaches the end of its lifetime after all. Is there a fancy way to refurbish the connections between segments from the inside, without digging up the sea floor?

      There is the Limfjordstunnel. A 582 meter long tunnel built in 1969 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limfjordstunnelen . Connecting North Jutland to the mainland. In the entirety of its existence it has struggled. The rubber membrane never worked properly and saltwater erodes the concrete the membrane was supposed to protect. Additional problems is poor quality concrete. Terrible construction method during the build. Movements in the seabed causing the tunnel elements to shift and slowly drift apart. Not a year goes by without extensive maintenance and renovations mostly done at night so that both north and south bound traffic is led through the same tunnel pipe, while they work on the other. Point is they do all this work from the "inside" of the tunnel. When the tunnel elements is placed and covered with sediments that is it. You live with the problems and when the cost and problems exceeds the benefits, then you scrap that tunnel or built a new.

    Looks like an great inventing, but how does it work when the vessel changes her draft by loading and uploading the cargo of the vessel?

    • @nicklabrosse4070
      @nicklabrosse4070 Před 2 lety

      Hello El Greco, these AutoMoor units automatically reposition themselves in the vertical plane one at a time (detach/reattach) to allow for loading draft or tidal variations, ensuring constant contact with the vessel and safe, consistent mooring tension.

    Like a lot of these technologies they look good, but what about mooring in adverse weather. The vessels using the system are relatively large vessels having tug assistance, what about smaller vessels say 130m to 160m without tugs and maybe requiring weather conditions for mooring, unmooring, e.g. maybe holding an after spring to help lift bow off a tight berth or as in most ports short shifting of 20m to 50 or 60m along a quay wall. Looks good in ideal conditions but I suspect has a long, long way to go before replacing linesman and deck machinery.

      @macwaysmayank8070 Před 3 lety

      They'll work as an operator and my friend advance technology is an opportunity not a job ripper but u guys want money job everything by just following a trend and the conventional processes . Everyone wants to earn but no one wants to change for good , no one wants to enhance. Ok so could u plz tell me what about the accidents happening due to ropes what about the slow port operations and what if due to high wind force say BF 9-10 rope breaks apart? These things are something which are actually witnessed but still if something good is in pipeline you guys consider it as a job ripper. . Sustainability requires the fittest to be the part of the game

    • @synd0gg
      @synd0gg Před 3 lety

      I can guarantee you that once this equipment is in place you’ll see a lot of unemployment in that sector unless terminals are willing to retrain/ or relocate the workers. Linesmen have been mooring vessels for centuries. In modern day a linesman crew can berth a vessel in a short amount of time BUT time should not be a consideration when berthing a vessel, there are too many varying factors, weather, sea state, visibility, manoeuvrability ect. Accidents mostly happen when 1. Workers are untrained 2. Workers are under pressure from management to work quickly and not safely. This need to be fixed at the management level not the worker level. These machines may well be the future and I’m all for the advancement of technology, but it must be done responsibly and without loss of income to employee.
